Affection

i have dated a non-active (from birth) jw off and on for the past 3 years and i have noticed that he is not very affectionate at all.

i'm wondering was it part of the upbringing?

could it be that since the relationships were shallow this never was an issue.. has anyone else experienced this.. very curious

I was raised as a JW. My parents and I are a very affectionate family, with regular "I love you"s, hugs and kisses. I enjoy a warm, openly affectionate relationship with my husband.

Maybe it is just the way your boyfriend is.

Is your bf baptised? He may be repressing guilty feelings about you, and it is surfacing as a lack of affection?

If he is still associating with JW's, you will have a rocky road ahead. Even if he is not associating, he will have a lot of sorting out to do in his head. I was not ready to be a good partner to anyone for some years after leaving, and even now my husband has to put up with some baggage.

Don't believe in Evolution or Creation.

what am i going to do , i'm not fully convinced by evolution or creation arguments.. they are both flawed in different ways, and suffer from a lack of evidence.although change through evolution does happen how far this can go is unknown.complexity from design does happen but usually leaves evidence .also no theories can go far enought in answering the ultimate questions.evolution relies on a universe that springs into existance, creation on a god that does so.evolution requires many complex and unlikely senarios in order to have happened so does creation.the fossil record is incomplete and without the missing pieces we can only infer what else should be there.god is either very shy or has lost his voice and dosen't seem bothered to prove his existance.. yet i exist, and the very heart of my being , the conscious mind is one of the least understood phenomenons in the universe.

I would not write off evolutionary theory on the basis of what the Watchtower presented in the "Creation" book.

This links to a bloke called Mario di Maggio who was an elder that found serious flaws in the Creation book and naively expected the GB to acknowledge his findings:

I don't feel the need to believe that all life was directly created in order to acknowledge a spiritual aspect in my life, although I do still wonder if that is a trick of brain chemistry anyway........ At the end of the day, I definately don't need to believe in a personal Creator to be the best person I can be today.

many of the posters here have been in the organization for years.during the time that you have been associated, have you ever had to go before a commitee?

did you confess to something or were you confronted by the elders?

were you ever accused of something but it couldn't be proven?

I was df'd without meeting the elders once. Here's how:

I ran away in a taxi with a couple of suitcases while X-husband was at the TMS/service meeting. After a few days he figured I was not coming back, and told my parents I had gone, but he did not know where I was. They were not well pleased that it took him several days to mention that I was "missing".

I made contact with my parents, told them I was safe, and I was not coming back. After a few weeks I told them I was "living in sin" with someone. They told the elders, who wanted to meet with me. I would not meet with them, and they announced that I had been df'd.

I don't know the ins and outs of the judicial procedures, whether they can df someone in absentia, but I am not bothered. "Disfellowshipped" is their label, not mine, and they did not see fit to do anything when I was at the Memorial weeks earlier with a black eye. Their rules, their fallacy of justice, their problem. Not mine.

Edited to say, incidentally, prior to my spectacular exit, I had not had any reproof or discipline from the elders, ever.

Could a person get disfellowshipped for. . .

allowing their 23 year old child to live at home even though this child makes enough money to support themselves and the parent doesn't need their financial support?.

i ask because my former best friend (who betrayed me to the elders) still lives with her mom.

she moved in a month before she got df'd even though her mom knew she was close to getting df'd.

I can see how you'd feel pissed off with this girl. Her actions in reporting you to the elders have led to your relationship with your mother being ruined; she covers up her actions and continues to have her mothers love when she is finally found out. She sounds like a rather toxic person.

I don't recognise the peculiar regulations of Brooklyn as rules that I or my family have to follow. I don't recognise the authority of elders, I don't believe thay are spirit appointed or qualified to judge me, my family or anyone else. I am not sure from this thread whether you do.

Do you still want to be reinstated? Do you accept the WTBTS as God's organisation? Or did you just want to avoid being df'd so you would not be shunned by your family and congregation, whilst discreetly you live your life the way you want to?

I cannot condemn people who are JW's who do the right thing when Brooklyn tells them not to. If a JW couple decided to allow their childs life to be saved with a blood transfusion rather than let it die without, to call them hypocrites is ridiculous.

I am very sorry that Reborn2002 considers that my parents, by treating me with natural affection, are "hypocritical, haughty and intolerable". I am not qualified to judge people I have never met, I am very impressed that they have this ability. Maybe I should let them know that they must not see me any more..........

Err, you do realise that that article is satirical?? It is not a genuine WT article. However, whoever wrote it has very cleverly captured the phrasing, tone and techniques of the WT writing department to a "T"! If that was to appear in the next issue of the Watchtower, the rank and file would swallow it whole, and lots of poor kitties would be meeting their makers.

I saw another one on the subject of "easing nature" which was similarly hysterical. I must find it.......

Stinky, I have seen your previous posts on how your mother is behaving towards you, and how badly it is hurting you.

Your mother is following WT instructions to the letter, many parents in that situation do, but some don't.

My parents don't follow this instruction, and I am deeply grateful and relieved that in this matter they can use some inate decency to decide how they will handle an issue in their lives instead of listening to a group of men in America.

Would it make it any more pleasant to be shunned by your mother if I was being hurt as badly? If you get this girl forced out of her family home, or get her mother df'd, will it make it more pleasant to be shunned by your mother?

The WT policy of forcing the disintegration of families when df'ing occurs is evil. Making sure it is enforced absolutely and without exception does not make it less evil. Why do you want to support it?

I really hope that more rank and file JW's ignore the shunning policy, as some already do. That is the way to make progress.

i have been out of "big mother" for 18 months after spending my whole life very actively associating with jws (all of my 32 years).

Confused

this is gonna take a while so bear with me .... i dunno where to start.

well i'm still a jw, still going to meetings etc although you do feel pretty bad sitting there knowing you'd like to be any place else.

like i've read from so many of you i've been the perfect jw kid excellent meeting attendence, good field service blah blah all that crap.

I certainly empathise with your situation. The advice already given to take things very slowly, and gradually fade is very sound. And - DO NOT yield to pressure to get baptised!! In my congregation, the kids that had a mini rebellion in their mid teens, stopped going to meetings, and never got baptised, were always warmly greeted at the odd meetings they came to. So it didn't matter if you had a baby at 15yrs old, provided you never got dunked. I on the other hand was a good little dub, regular at meetings and field service, baptised at 15. I knew how to make my parents happy! And I married another good JW publisher when I was 19, and was miserable for the next 4 years. I finally left him, and was DF'd, so now I am shunned. So I might as well have been "immoral" in my teens, I would have a much better standing in the congregation now!! I digress......

Do you have any contact with your mum or dad? Is it possible to get in touch with them? Are they still free from the Watchtower? Could they be a lifeline for you?
