if one makes a statement that someone else thinks is 'overly critical'.
are they saying the statement is 'overly critical'?
or are they saying you are 'overly critical'?
I'm with ya there, Oompa.
But I'll take a stab at it anyway.
Anybody can have a bad day or say things they don't really mean, or mis-state something.
Sometimes emphasis that was intended is totally missed by the listener, and emphasis that was never intended is read into the statement instead.
I would say that if the statement is critical, that's pretty self explanatory, but I wouldn't call the person themselves critical unless it was a major part of their persona. Something that defines them per se.
I suppose its even possible a person could be a 'critical person' on one subhect, and not on another.
Having wrung all of the context possible out of what Oompa aptly decribed as a useless topic, I will depart.
Toodles,

Welcome home!
They ARE a filthy cult and suck rocks!
Nobody's gonna argue that point with you.
You and Watchtower Wizard ought to get along famously.

i have a guy at work that is a non-denominational church goer.
he really, really loves him some jesus.
anyway, he's asking what book he should read to be able to show witnesses they are wrong.
I'd follow that up with Captives of a Concept by Don Cameron.
Don't bother arguing whther JW doctrine is right or not, just grant the premise for the sake of argument, and then use the WTS's own sources and history to logically demolish their usurped position and authority.
It's a great read,

he was helping my son put a new desk together.
i questioned him about his standing, i.e.
Rebornagain,
I do so like your positive outlook.
Very refreshing.
Yes, yay for him if he's getting out! You have enoughtrouble without him trying to drag JW crap into it.
God Bless,

shunning still hurts for me, i admit it.
though i have no common ground with these people any longer, it is just the idea that i am treated as evil for nothing more than exiting the religion.
i was in a chinese rest on wednesday.
Wow, jgnat, awesome link!
AK Jeff, I know how it feels, I've been there. I don't blame you for your hurt or your outrage, you are only human.
It's easy to say to just let it roll off your back, and that IS great advice, but sometimes it's just too much.
Might I suggest that you consider turning the tables on her the next time this happens?
Go up and say 'HI" as if she is your best friend, smile, be friendly, and when she snubs you, act like you don't even see it, just keep blaring.
Shun her shunning, I say!
Just an idea.

firstly, i will fill you in.. my friend's marriage split up in march.
both of them were raised as jw's, but i believe only my friend went to the meetings because his wife didn't want to go.. anyway, i believe that my friend started suffering with his health because he was taking on extra work to look after his wife and daughter to cover the debts that she had accumulated.
anyway, in march she left, claimed domestic violence and has left him in all sorts of debt (she had been running up credit card bills) .
James Slash:
I think its more to do with the fact that my pal has been slandered, not only by her, but by her family and others in the Christian congregation.
Wait a sec, I thought you said this was happening in the JW congregation. There IS a difference.
Anyway, I hope his health improvesand he is able to exact some sort of justice for what he has suffered.

i have yet to find a christian that can truly explain the bodily reserrection of christ doctrine.
they become so confused after a few minutes that many of them will try to change the subject on you.
i was talking to a born-again co-worker of mine about this very subject and after 15 minutes of going over scriptures he said "you know booker-t i have never really swallowed the bodily reserrection doctrine but this is what my church teaches.
I don't know, it seems obvious to me he would have had to be resurrected in the Spirit.
Before the flood, the angels were able to materialize bodies to lay with human women, Jesus is certainly more than an angel, does it not stand to reason the spirit body he was resurrected into would be able to do this as well?
Just my take on things, I don't know what their problem is.

first, let me introduce myself.
i am a spanish speaking woman, 2nd generation jw, who lives outside the united states.
so, please forgive if i make mistakes in my writing.. .
Welcome Akira!
No rush to find new beliefs, take your time. It will all be ok.
I think there is a truth, but maybe not an organization; but your mileage may vary.
In any case, if you seek God with an open heart and without WTS preconceptions, you WILL find Him.
God Bless and Good Luck on your search, you've found a good place here.
