Lots of good advice here.
I sure am sorry your mom said that to you.
MY mom told me, "I love you like a son, but you ARE the evil slave..."
"Like" a son?!?!?
"THE" Evil Slave?!?!?
Ahh the whacky madcap adventures among the glazed-eye culties.
Hang in there!

"I see you are still alive"
by Honesty ini went to the local post office today.. a car pulled up with 2 men and a young woman inside.. i smiled and said, "hi.
" the man who was driving waved, backed out of the parking space and moved 3 spaces down towards the next business in the strip mall.. the driver walked over and said, "i see you are still alive.".
i said, "yes, god has kept me alive for the last 3 years.

What Was Lousy About Being A JW For You?
by minimus inwas it that you never got holiday candy until the day after?.
that you couldn't be a "normal" kid?.
that you always were feeling restricted, depressed and angry???.

There were so many lousy things about it, but for me the standout was "never feeling good enough."
I was one of those that bought into it enough to think that the elders, elderettes and little elderlings really were better, more theocratic, and therefore happier.
I mean, if they weren't, they would not be where they were in God's one true organization, would they?
As the son of a divorced woman, I was kind of marginalized in the congregation and was never really in any of the cliques that included these people so I was never really in on the reality that they were no better or happier than I.
The path to be as good as they was plain, but it was beyond my ability to go down it because I had.... Shame of shames....
DOUBTS!
Oh the guilt, shame, and despair knowing that the shining ones would be in the happy-dappy new system wearing polyester slacks and I would be cast out with the weeping and the gnashing!
All because I couldn't help feeling at the core of my being something was 'wrong' and I wasn't as good at avoiding that sore spot in be belief system as well as I imagined they were.
It all seems so amazingly stupid and petty now.
Glad to be rid of it all!

Man I hate you V!
You got the cool name/avatar/persona, and you are ACTUALLY taking on a tyrannical religious authority structure from within...
So effective, and creative....
They tried to shut you down and you got around them, and kept on striking back....
I wish I could say that I had been so effective.
What you are doing is so vital, so relevant, so well done, it makes me jealous.
So, thank you, good on you, kudos, and I hate you.
(j/k about the hate)

Mom is gone
by Katheryn ini'm not much of a poster here, but the passing of my mom on friday is as good a reason as any.. she was in deep, no doubt will be refered to as "faithful to the end" by those who eulogize her.
this new chapter in my life of course has me is a reflecive mood.
i'm sure when she was diagnosed with cancer 4 years ago that her hope was that the "new system" would come before she succumbed.

My JW Daughter Was Invited to Speak At Church Youth Rally
by snowbird inshe is being looked up to by many in our little community as a beacon of hope for the other kids.. she excelled in her classes in school and at college.
she doesn't do drugs, doesn't stay out too late at night, and is always respectful toward adults.. my daughter tactfully declined the invitation.
i am so sorry i got her involved with the jw's.. sylvia.

My Story - Part 2
by Jeremy C inlike many jw children, i was deeply influenced and motivated by watchtower society artwork depicting the new system of things.
i was profoundly influenced by artwork (particularly in the book: you can live forever in paradise on earth) that portrayed children petting tigers, playing with lion cubs, running through grassy fields with kites, and enjoying care-free lives.
what i now realized about myself is that for a jw to desire such things; and to go through the motions - performing organizationally-programmed activity in order to receive this reward; does not necessarily require a love for god or christ that is any deeper than other religionists.

Awesome story!
I read part one, and had to come here to read part two before commenting.
I am impressed by your literary style, the excellent flow of ideas, turns of phrase, and of course; the spectacular content.
Thank you.
Looking forward to future installments,

Hello everyone! New here. Born into it....ugh.
by Lady Zombie inwhere to start?.
i thought about typing out a nutshelled life history but changed my mind.
suffice it to say, i was born into "the truth," attempted suicide at 14, "lost my faith" at this time, beat into submission into carrying on as usual, endured a horrible marriage and equally horrible divorce, and am more or less still in it (appearances only!
