Hey, if it ain't broken, what's the point in trying to fix it? As long as your system is working as you need it too...

Computer Geek advice?
by SixofNine ini have a new, presumably good-working-order 1terabyte hard drive, with 64 bit windows vista loaded from an hp computer that i purchased cheap (125 bucks) because the case (and the motherboard) has been badly smooshed by an errant forklift.
i have a 1.5 year old hp computer that is running vista (but not vista 64).. .
the smooshed computer w/ the good 1t drive had a pentium e6300 chip, and my working computer has an athlon 64x2.. .

Go Linux and stop paying the Micro$oft tax. I will never pay for one of their products. Ever. Their monopolistic anticompetitive practices make me sick.
Ditto. That's one of the reasons I switched to Macs. Yes, I have less choice on my hardware but I'm at the stage where as long as it does what I need it too, I don't really need to customise my system down to the last detail. No activation issues with the OS (don't even need to register it or enter a product key) and much, much more stable. Over a year so far and still yet to see a system crash.
What distrubution of Linux do you use BTS? I personally liked OpenSuSe and Ubuntu.

XP is probably my favourite version of Windows, though I'm a Mac user nowadays.

The problem is, the old drivers can still conflict with the installation... that's been my experience anyway. If there is enough of a conflict between the old drivers and the new hardware, Windows won't load at all which again, in my experience happens more often than not.
If the Windows installation is an OEM version, it will be 'locked' to the hardware sold with the original machine (usually the BIOS on the motherboard) and cannot be re-actived in another system (not legally anyway).

In my experience, you've got two issues... product activation and drivers. Provided the Vista installation isn't an OEM version, you should be able to re-activate it (assuming you have the product key). The drivers however, are another problem entirely. It's a matter of trial and error, I have managed to get a copy of XP working after swapping hard drives between systems but it depends on the hardware involved... there's infinite variations coming into play and what works for one system won't necessarily work for another.
Years ago in the days of 3.11 (and earlier) you could easily swap drives between systems with minimal changes required (like graphics drivers)... since the introduction of Win95 and plug and pray it hasn't been so easy... and seems to get harder with each new release.
I'd try it and see what happens...

PRIVATE PROPERTY! KEEP OUT!
by highdose inhow many times have we all seen that sign in the minstry?
also " no salesman" , " no harkers" etc.
in my congo it was the policy to ignore these completly, the poor people who just wanted to be left alone never had a chance.. i on the otherhand used to use it as an exhuse to fast forward on to the next house and finish up the ministry quicker.... what was your experiance?.

I was always one who, if I saw a sign along the lines of 'No Religious Callers', I'd turn around and not bother them. Did work with several "zealous" ones though who always argued "we're not religious callers".
On another topic...
The version I heard was that John Denver asked witnesses to leave at the beginning of every concert.
I actually knew a sister once who claimed she was at a John Denver concert and heard him ask for any JW's in the audience to raise their hands... then tell them to leave. Still wouldn't call it confirmed though as this sister wasn't always truthful about her claims.
Oz Radio Announcer John Laws used to announce over the radio (his program is aired nationally) about witnesses working certain suburbs. People would ring in and say they live in xyz area and they just got called on... he'd broadcast a warning on his show. That one I can vouch for as I've heard these warnings myself.

ATJeff Answers Letters from JW Readers
by AllTimeJeff ini didn't want to hijack billy x's attempt at hijacking another thread directed to our apostate terrorist, reinna.
this is a parady that only ex jw's could possibly appreciate.
whether you appreciate my macabre sense of humor is entirely another matter.

Dear All-Mighty-Blubbering-Boobly
Remember me? Still waiting for that in-the-closet MS to become appointed as an Elder... I have another question first though.
I was just now drinking a glass of water. I find water refreshing and I love the feeling it gives me especially when I've been thirsty. It's almost erotic.
I'd like to know.... what is the GB's view on water? Is there a limit to how much I should be drinking? What should be my view, as a christian of water? I'm asking because I've been drinking a fair amount with this hot weather we've been having lately and I don't want to miss out on the paradise earth because I've been a glutton.
Regards,
Sister Singletoolong
