Yes, yes, yes, ask them. Also, ask about those who spread out to serve where the need was greater. Where are they now? What happened to the urgency of the times? Did F. W. Franz suffer qualms of conscience or a crisis of faith as did Mother Teresa? Crazy, isn't it?

Reminds me of those brave White souls of the North and South who took part in the Civil Rights demonstrations right along with us Black people. I saw one White guy grabbed on the streets of Wilcox County Alabama and beaten mercilessly just because he was helping us protest against the unfair hiring practices of local merchants and the deplorable condition of our public schools. There have always been, and always will be, those who stand up and say, "This far and no farther."

now that i have been out of the borg for a while, it has occurred to me that one of the biggest weapons they use to keep everyone indoctrinated is the watchtower study.. elders are told that the wt study is the primary way that the faithful and discreet slave feeds the flock of god today.
it is easily the most formulatic.. consider, the content is 100% controlled.
(i would also add, made up fiction.
Right before I left for good, I would try to incorporate new material or a different viewpoint in my answers, only to be given a stony stare by the conductor. The regular members loved it, however, and would often come to me after the meetings ask the source of my information.
Needless to say I soon became persona non grata around the KH.

i had to narrow down my list of favorites to arrive at my overall favorite, which is "abaddon.
where did you learn the truth about the paradise, immortal soul, how many go to heaven, etc?.
my answer would be: " i allowed an organization - claiming to speak for god - to convince me it had some special insight on the holy scriptures.
i now realize that had i taken the time to research the organization and the scriptures, i would have seen that much of this "special insight" is nothing more than the ramblings of a false prophet.

i'll be visiting the crescent city in a couple of weeks.
my husband has a conference he goes to each year down there (except for when katrina hit and they moved it to miami....when wilma hit.....) my husband was there in new orleans last october, but i haven't been there since katrina.
i spend my time in the french quarter and my assumption is that things are pretty much normal there??
