My mother taught us never to put lard or oil in the flour mixture for dumplings. That will make them heavy and dough-y.

a few months ago i read the following info which i just copied from vinny's thread.
Everything is cool snowbird. I was just being anal.
But i'm sorry you've had those experiences with black men. Good thing all of us aren't that way.

Now I can truly be at ease in Zion! You are a treasure, you know that?

I am Black, and believe you me, I know how controlling and anal Black men can be.
OK, Little Brother, I should have said, "I know how controlling and anal some Black men can be." Feel better? I hope so because I can't bear the thought of Little Brother being ticked off with me. Snowbird
are you an active jehovah's witness?.
i was when i found this place.. this place, jwd, didn't change that.. i knew that so many things were wrong with the organization.
i was an elder.

just happened to notice this.
the majority of who?
when there was a congregational trial it wasn't supposed to be secret and behind closed doors and conducted by hired men a la a court martial.

symptoms of intellectual starvation:.
1.purposelessness, time-wasting, apathy, cynical desuetude.. 2.aimless hobbies that run out the clock.
3.fluff reading.

Of course you get kind words, A&W. I am Black, and believe you me, I know how controlling and anal Black men can be. It's a cultural thing, but that doesn't make it right. I've been married twice and left them both because of the same issue.
I'm telling you the same thing I tell my two daughters: Take no guff, cut no slack; kick them to the curb and don't look back! Now why do I have a hankering for a root beer?

.....according to my father.. he decided to talk to me today about my meeting attendance.
i haven't been to one in 3 months by the way.
so he goes on to give me the usual.."you know where you're supposed to be 3 times a week"......."you're not taking full advantage of jehovah's provisions"....."you shouldn't let anyone discourage you to the point of missing meetings"....that type of stuff.. he then went on to say that if you aren't taking full advantage of what jehovah provides then you're worshipping satan instead of jehovah.
The Watchtower and Awake magazines are just as important as the Bible itself
Yup, yup, yup. When my mother's dementia became noticeable, she would "place" all of her magazines by putting them at the bottom of the trash can! I remember the feeling of horror that came over me when I found out what she was doing. Now I wish I had helped her "place" more of them!

I grew so tired of hearing those old worn-out cliches. I remember one elder even went so far as to refer to WT literature as "holy."
I was flabbergasted! Apparently no one else seemed jolted by such a statement. It is hard to deal with such brainwashing, but it helps to remember that we were once the same way.

Post 1 of 1 since 24-Aug-07 38 y 3 m 5 d | I don't know if it's ok for me, a Newbie, to start here. If not, please tell me where to go. My dad was a JW back in the early 70's. He tried to teach us their "irrefutable" doctrine. I couldn't understand the things he was saying (the Earth is 6,000 years old, 144,000 will go to Heaven, Jesus is not God, the world would end in 1975, etc). A few years ago, one of my best friends became a JW. And he too tried to teach me. But again, I couldn't understand. He told me it was very important to believe that Jesus died on a stake instead of a cross. I couldn't understand why it was so important to focus on how Jesus died, instead of why. I kept telling him "You strain at gnats but swallow a camel". Both of them tell me only JW's have the truth, and everyone who is not a Jehovah's Witness does not. And somehow, it was vital for me to question my belief, but equally vital for them (or me) to not question theirs. I never got along with my Dad, and now I don't get along with this friend either, because I couldn't accept that "they have the Truth". But I can't follow a religion that contradicts itself & keeps changing its doctrine, but still claims to be true |
Good to have you here, bluesmurf92.
