It was Peter, not Jesus, who said that it was a Parabole. Jesus meant it as a prophesy. Thats what the WT says. - a faithful JW.

Possibly a great question to ask JW's since this last week's WT.
by Crazyguy inso since the type anti-type doctrine has been dropped 'does this mean peter was right when at luke 12 :41 he said the faithful and discreet slave was just a parable?

They're Making it Impossible to Fade
by DarioKehl infor those of you who have already faded due to family still being in, have you noticed how the noose is tightening?.
if it's not memorial, it's special day assembly.
if it's not that, it's convention or the special talk.

I noticed that the document is made for England. Is it the same thing in Canada? Did they send that letter to elders in Canada? -

Did you just say that the Elders want to keep a copy of your medical directives? That is, there is the one that you are expected to keep in your wallet and now they want a copy that is to be kept else where?? -

The Sign of Jonah
by millie210 incalling you bible scholars!.
i was asked this:.
how can this apply to jesus when he was not in the grave for 3 nights?.

You know, the prophecy didn't just say three days.... it said "three days AND three nights!" So, they can argue that three days was fulfilled, but not three nights. A half filled prophecy is not a fail.

Lets run some numbers...
by Lemonp inafter the bombshell that is the may broadcast asking for cold hard cash, i was thinking about the mathematics of the money that they want.
details are very few, but with help from a few people we could build up a decent guess about cashflow.
we know that 6 buildings recently were sold for 375 million dollars, tax free i assume.

Here are some real numbers for you: In Canada, the branch has received a revenu of 61.8 Millions dollars.
I find this number very high considering that this would amount to 3,705 $ per month per congregations (1,390$ in Canada).
That being said, looking into the reported number of printed magazines and brochures, close to 300 millions, you can tell that a great deal of that money goes straight into their printed material.

WBTS / JW views never quoted as good source of information
by menrov innot sure if my title is correct.
what i noticed is that in say secular bible research documentation, books, lectures etc, one never (or at least i have never read it) reads a quote from one of the former or current wbts leaders nor do i ever see a reference to one of their publication (unless it is article about the jw/wbts itself).. for example, if you read a book on a bible theme or topic written by a scholar or other bible teachers/professors from prof xyz, you will find often in these books a reference to publications / statements / quotes from other scholars or professors.
but never have i seen a reference to say a wt publication or quote / statement from one the leaders of the organisation.. so, despite the million page printed or conferences organised by the wbts, the material apparently is never considered of value to others or to use as reference material.. in my view, that says a lot..... or am i wrong?

very interesting.... i hadn't thought about that one. For information to be printed to such a large audience, on a regular basis, you would think that some of that information could be used by other scolars, but no. Nada. -

Mays JW TV Broadcast/Your feedback is appreciated
by ToesUp ini have a pretty good intuition but i have to admit i am going back and forth on the jw tv may broadcast.
i keep asking myself are they really in financial trouble (wishful thinking) or are they just grabbing for more money?.
i always appreciate reading everyone's thoughts and ideas on here.. let me know what you think.

They keep using "accelerated"... I don't see any acceleration here. And again with the 1400 kingdom hall that need to be build or have major repairs. That tells me that most of these are to be repaired. And as for those offices for their translators? Why can't they work from their home and have more people involved on a part time basis? With today's tools, remoting is easy, especially if the bulk of your work (translation), is done entirely alone.
Well... they can't do that, otherwise, they won't know how to spend the money...
To me, it sounds like they're at the point where they need to spend the money they receive and so, they are finding these needs that are not there in the first place.

oh, also make a quick search in the JW library and highlight all of the bad things that are thought about Apostates and anyone leaving the JW religion. Than, tell the judge that you cannot conceive that your kid could be brought up in a religion that will instruct him to despise his own father.

Since you believe in God, when you pray, weather you call him Jehovah, Yahweh, Allah or whatever, it is the same God that will hear that prayer and will obviously know it was meant for him. So, using Jehovah just to keep your parents happy should make no difference.
When ending the prayer, I can understand skipping "in the name of Jesus", however, why not use "Amen"?
That being said, though some "giving thanks" in the bible were reported before some meal, I strongly doubt that it was before every meals. this practice sounds redundant to me.

Texan Billboard
by Pubsinger indidn't the judge rule in the candace conte trial that wts did not have a responsibility to notify the congregation only to protect them?
i think this is hugely missing the point.
other churches and organisations have strict policies to protect members from sex offenders but they do not 'notify' in the sense that i think these people want.. so the wt response to that particular question will be 'no.

I do not believe that the religious leaders should HAVE to tell the police, no more than psychiatrists. I am sure that a great deal of victims seek help from their religious leaders who, in turn, advice the, encourage them and help them in seeking help from the police.
Unfortunately, with the JW in particular, that is not the case. Yes, Elders are told not to do a thing if the victim wants to go to the cops, but they are not told to provide help and comfort in a process that involves the police. There is no instructions to the elders to advise the victim to go to the cops.
This is where the issue really is. A victim tells the elders that she has gone to the cops or wants to go to the cops and suddenly, there will be this “uncomfortable” moment where the elders will say: it is your choice. They are not allowed to say: Good for you! What a good decision! No, it will be an uncomfortable: “It is your choice”.
Other members will not know what is wrong, but they will sense the “uncomfortable” situation and will assume that you have a problem with the elders; and anyone who has an issue with the elders is spiritually week. This will translate to slowly becoming outcast from the group (limited conversations at the hall, not being invited by anyone, having difficulty finding someone to go door to door with).
In the end, the peer pressure will build up to a level not seen among kids in high school!
Unfortunately, I do not believe that people outside of the JW can understand all this and just how terrible this situation becomes. This explains why I believe that if there was a law surrounding this, it would be that the religious leaders HAVE to urge the victims to go to the police.
