If I was an elder, I would agree with this arrangement as long as every expenses from that fund were communicated back to the elders. I would expect to see which hall had which repairs. The date, the cost. If they have that level of transparency, sure, I'd be happy to give.
Of course, they would not give that level of transparency and I would love to hear them explain why.

So, they claim to need 32 Million $ /year for the disaster relief(3£ x 8 Million publishers) . That would mean that the'd have the ability to rebuilt 14 kingdom halls per month, every month, all year rounds. I'm not even sure that they build new ones at that rate!
Clearly, this is another disguised way of charging fees relabeled as "voluntary donations".
Considering that they made a billion from their sales of NY properties, that they are flipping some KHs here and there and that they are about to make a lot of money from their UK properties... I am at lost to know what they are doing with their money and why they are demanding even more from their members. I sincerely don't understand.

IBSA (Watchtower UK) property portfolio for sale
by betterdaze inbehold: ibsaproperty.com“the extensive ibsa property portfolio in north london is now being brought to the market.”ibsa moved to the leafy london suburbs of mill hill in the late 1950’s.
since then, expansion has required the acquisition of further properties in the immediate area, and in some cases further beyond.
in recent years, relocation to a single site which would offer greater economy of operation became more than a matter of interest, and in 2014 a suitable site in chelmsford, essex was purchased.

My fantasy at this point would be that someone in the accounting offices of the Watchtower would become a whistleblower.

pepperheart: I believe you're right, that they did invest a lot of money into preaching, weather it is the hard copies of the publication, web servers, video productions, etc. That's why there is still the possibility that they paid off debts and are in currently spending more than they make until all that money is used up. That could also be a possibility.

Gales, they sold 30 buildings so far. However, I don't believe they could have sold 2/3 just like that and get to where they are. Different buildings are used differently and are worth different amount. In the end, they have specific needs to cover. Lets not neglect the fact that they also accounted the free labor in their decision.

The thing that drives me crazy about this move is that no one has any ideas if they payed off a lot of debts or if they are actually sitting on their money.
As to the possibility of an "off balanced" shooting them up... I'd think that moving in Warwick would actually make it easier. Less police force around, less cameras, huge forest to hide in... I strongly doubt that they thought about that when they made their move.

Warwick is 1.6 Million Square-Foot. At $125 per foot (industry standard), you are looking at 200 Million construction fee. Sure, there is free work force, however, they still had to pay for the land. Other expense would be actually moving over there. So, it looks like it is a clear profit of about 1 Billion dollars!
What puzzles me is the fact that they could have easily paid 100 million dollars in labor and let the brothers and sisters preach instead of building something. They obviously don't hold preaching as such a high priority after all, do they. Better put 100 million aside to pay the law suites!

Probably Not The Most Effective Anti-JW Protest ...

Mr Young said that "we do not allow homosexuals into the hall', and added: "God's law is fairly straight concerning homosexuals".
I wonder if he actually said that, or if that was actually what he meant. They are not allowed to block someone at the entrance based on their sexual orientation. Watchtower has been clear on that.. they judge their actions, not their desires. Hence, perhaps the homosexual involved was dressed in a manner that chocked?
If he actually meant : not allow the gays in... I believe their is room for actions here.

JW Literature Trolleys Don't Carry the Book Of Mormon
by Athanasius inthis morning the jws set up two literature trolleys at our local shopping centre.
the trolleys were situated within 20 feet of each other with six jws attending them.
why they needed six jws on hand i have no idea as everyone was ignoring them.. anyway i thought i'd have some fun.

I wouldn't take literature and simply throw it away. Some JW feel personally responsible for these and give contributions out of their own pockets when they don't receive any. In the end, only the poor individual gets shafted, not the watchtower.

I do not believe that they would ever loose all their money to abuse cases. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that their are plenty of cases out there that could cost them a whole LOT. However, its one thing to be ordered to pay and another to actually transfer the money over.
Even if they brought Watchtower to bankruptcy, nothing would stop them from first, transferring their assets to a brand new charity: Any name will do. Heck, here is one: The International Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Heck, they could even keep the JW logo.
Put some of the man on top in jail? Sure, they'll go in for a few years and write books on how they were persecuted! Seize their possessions? They own nothing individually, even if they control billions of dollars!
When everyone stops believing these man and everyone leaves, you can bet that some individuals will take advantage of this and fill their personal accounts with what ever is left.
