Would You Go Back?
by Dune inyesterday, my aunt was talking to one of my siblings about how things have been changing in our [ex] congregation for the 'better'.. she mentioned how a new circuit overseer has come in and is shaking things up.
the co appointed a ministerial servant (someone, the po & secretary didn't like and i know would never have voluntarily suggested appointment) and some of the 'brothers' that have had no 'responsibility' ever are being given #4 talks.
she also mentioned that the book study will be cancelled and the meetings are being shortened.. a ministerial servant who had a vendetta against some of the elders wants me to talk to a co and basically tell him i left the congregation [and the religion] because of the incompetence of the elders.. i'm not talking to the co and i'm not 'blaming' anyone.

Have u found a new faith since leaving?
by chuckyy ini was just wondering how many of you have found a "new faith" since leaving the jw"s. for instance, are u a member of another church, another religion, or are u now a committed atheist.
if u have found a new faith, what convinces you that its the right one?.

Yeah, I became a Presbyterian last Sunday. They believe in everyone having their own faith journey, and are very open to questions, and having your own thoughts on things. Its very relieving to have no one controlling your thinking or anything else you do in life. I believe there is something "greater" than me, and I truly believe that we see God's creation around us all the time. I also believe that EVERYONE has a purpose on this planet (though they may not be doing it), and everyone can contribute something of value to this world.
I was worried about mind control and people telling me how to live also, and I know one thing, the Presbyterian church I go to does neither. They're very respectful and think very highly of education and research pursuits. I love it!

There are OH SO MANY, where would I even begin...
Well I suppose, most of Russell's maniacal rants... Followed by Rutherford's Beth Sarim being built for "men of old"... Not celebrating birthdays or other holidays... But the worst for me is the shunning policy, that's just ludicrous and goes directly against the whole "forgiveness" principle of Christ.

How Do JWs Treat You NOW?
by minimus inif a witness sees you, will they acknowledge you, ignore you, be nice to you, or treat you as dead?

Treated like death or the plague. Most of them I didn't like, but there are a few that I do miss.

I believe in the Charlie Rich song "Behind Closed Doors", and my fiancee is the very epitome of that , a very modest, proper, well-respected lady in public, but "When we get behind closed doors..."

What JW teaching did you find hardest to defend??
by karter infor me it was that god is killing billions of people just to prove a point.
what about you?

Yeah I could never explain Valentine's day, Thanksgiving, birthdays, Mother's day, Father's day, New Year's and St. Patty's (other than drinking too much, these two are totally harmless). There was NO REASON for them to be "banned", but the Borg still did it anyway. Then I got out and now I celebrate them all.
All those 'trumpet blast' garbage I could never swallow, I remember sitting at the meetings as a teenager and thinking, "This is crap, how can they prove this means them?"

Since you didn't get presents "year round", do you go overboard now?
by WingCommander inthere is another thread being discussed as to if you got gifts throughout the year as jw's claim.
many like me, whom were raised in the jw's, either had poor parents or picky ones that claimed you were being "materialistic" if you wanted toys, gifts, nice clothing, etc.
this made me wonder, since we were somewhat deprived of the nice things that others had growing up, does that make us more apt to buy the "best of everything" now....that is, if we can?

I spoil my fiancee like crazy. She's a very simple easy to please woman though, and is truly grateful and appreciative for everything. I also buy the "best I can afford" on things for myself. For clothes, I'm a T-shirt and jeans type though, and Levi or Tommy Hilfiger at the Outlet Malls are just fine by me. I still have a pair of Doc Marten boots that I got as a HS graduation present from my mom. On my guitar gear, which I use as "tools", I try to buy the most reliable and dependable with the nicest warranties; that usually means more up front cost, but not always. I also know what I want and sometimes that's just a cheapo, beater guitar. One of my main guitars was only $150 brand new.
My JW family was very materialistic, and loved having "the best". They like showing off their "best" too. We shopped at Younkers or JC Penney or S&K for our suits. We certainly didn't wear Walmart or Sears clothes. But my family was also bargain hunters, my dad and grandma especially. Dad still haggles for all kinds of things, always searching for a better price or negotiating, he loves it. Grandma loved Cadillacs and Buicks, and last I knew she still had one.
