can someone clarify for me, in the malawi and mexico chapter(s), 1) the jws were a cultural institution in order for the society to be able to own real estate and if they were a religion, then they wouldn't own the property, or something close to that, right?
2) most importantly, were there some big real estate transactions happening in mexico during the malawi massacre where the society didn't want to do anything to rock the boat on those?
my book study conductor mentioned the Malawi political card thing at the study tonight, you have no idea how bad I wanted to comment!!!!
as for a major real estate transaction happening I dont recall that, just that the property they own would be taken from them and they would not be able to buy more. But my copy of CofC is under my bed and my wife is sleeping so I cant confirm that either!!! hehe

thats EXACTLY the point! Thats why changes happen a littel tiny piece at a time. then when someone finally catches on they point out a Watchtower from 3 years earlier where the first hint of a change was made and say "See!! It was always there! Dont you do your personal study??"
And then the R&F say "oh..... I guess it was me that was wrong all along...hmmm.... go figure"
So many R&F dont know details, thats why its so hard to teach them anything about the org's history cause they think your lying!!!
long before i began my fade, there was a certain "sister" in the congo who married a non-jw man.
she was very happily married despite of all the forecasts of "doom and gloom" among the "friends".

I could not tell you how many couples I know personally that have split up. Soooo many. They get married young and by 30 are done. And others I know that are still together, guess what the wives tell my wife??? You guessed it!! They're miserable and wish that they didnt get married at all.
I know one sister that stayed married for 8 years to an elder and they had absolutely no love for each other, they didnt even like each other. She finally couldnt take it and cheated on him so he would leave her!
do household chores without the rush....... spend time with my little neice(now fatherless) without worrying..."i need to take her back home, i gotta study that wt lesson for tomorrow!".
hang out with my younger brother without thinking..."crap it's monday...that lesson in the "revelation" book ain't studying itself!".
visit my sister without thinking......."should i see her before the meeting or after field service?

at the past 2 meetings (tonight and sunday) it was the first time in my life to actually just "read" the bible. I have read and really pondered the first 5 chapters of Romans and did it to just read it. Not to see how I can use it in service, just read it. Why is it that now, after 32 years I finally actually care about what the bible says and not the WT? I envy you R.F. I am still not free, but your words encourage me!

Why do I love doing that so much now????? Having a drink is so much nicer when someone sincerely clinks your glass and "cheers" you. I actually do this with JW's now just to see who does it back. (yes, I have gotten grief over it too!) CHEERS Unique1 !!!!!! (and everyone else too!!!)
another thread discussed how people are encouraged in annual wt articles, service meeting parts, and visits from elders when they are elderly and dying, to consider leaving some or all of their property to the society.

i know of alot of brothers and sisters in my congregation deciding to get at least two years in.
some have certificates and regret it and are going back for mainly money reasons.. me i got a certificate in a area and i am going back to get a real degree.
preferably in a diffrent field.. what is it like where your at ?.
i was going through an apprenticeship for automechanic right at the end of the "ban" on higher edu. We all know it wasnt "officially" banned but we also all remember how everyone talked about those that got the "nads" to get an edu.
Anyway, so many looked highly upon my apprenticeship because it was "work", a trade, and I was trained on-the-job, so it was ok. In fact it was a really good thing. Then when I needed to go to night school for 6 weeks one evening per week everything changed. Because my class was on "book study" night. I was even told by one elder to quit my apprenticeship over it! 3 years of apprenticing thrown in the trash over 6 book studies? It was rediculous. RIght then the article came out about edu. and i got left alone.
It was amazing though how people got their noses out of joint when someone wanted to go to school. As if a "what makes them so special" kind of attitude. Almost as if people were jealous of those going to school, I remember being a little kid and getting this impression. One brother was going to law school and people talked about it for months.
After the view changed it seemed everyone was taking a "windows" course or a "computer" course and they were gonna get an "office job" and work on "computers". As if a lousy windows course was going to get them some great career running big'ol fancy smancy computers.....(remember this was 1995 when most JW's still thought the internet was a "sign of the times")

I wasnt sure of what you meant by Rutherford's Rainbow so I checked it out and funny thing is my grandfathers library has almost everyone of those books. In fact I have the "Harp of God" in my posession as I borrowed it from him. I even remember flipping through "the way to paradise" which was in my old cong's library. I didnt know it could be worth anything!
Well for the record, the Harp of God is like a recap of many other books. Rutherford even makes comments about not going into all the details for the book could not contain all the information, and he directs the reader to other books. I was specifically interested in the statements about 1925. All the timelines for 1799 to 1914 were interesting also........

what you need to remember is that none of the empirical evidence was used to come up with 607 BCE as the date. Recall that 606 BCE was the original year shown as the destruction of Jerusalem right up until the mid 40's.
The original calculation of 606 was determined solely by subtracting 70 years from 537BCE. Thats it. This was not even the calcualtion of the WTS or Russell but rather Nathan Barbour, and before him John Aquila Brown (or something like that) published the date of 604 and thus determined the end of the gentile times to be 1917, and this he published back in 1823, almost 30 years before Russell was born! Barbour later revised this to 606BCE by subtracting the 70 years from the return of the Jews in 537BCE from exile.
Hence when the WTS realized that the math was wrong (no '0' year) instead of moving the date from 1914 to 1915 they simply moved the date of Jerusalems destruction from 606 to 607. How convenient! However they get away with it as most historians allocate a one year degree of error for calculating chronology at that era.
Even today, the WTS sticks with the conclusion that despite what any historical "facts" may indicate, there is no more trustworthy source than the bible and the bible says it was 70 years before the return of the Jews in 537BCE..........according to their present "light"
