  their records show that when a person is suspended with their hands over their head, as they would be on the jw "torture stake," they can survive for approximately one hour.

  if their feet are tied down, as well, the time is reduced to about 15 minutes.. .

  Now i ask you, why do we call them flashlights when they no longer flash? Could it be because we still use these in the same manner as the original flashlight? And thus the term "flashlight" remained in use even though the device itself changed over time? Even though it was no longer flashing?

  Why is it so difficult for some to understand that this is how languages evolve? This is exactly how Stauros went from meaning a pale to meaning a new, different kind of pale (also known as a cross). Because the device (pale) was called a stauros - then it was made better by adding a petibulum (cross member). In the exact same manner as the flashlight, people still called it a stauros - because it was a stauros!just with a petibulum nailed to it!In time the word Crux was applied to it in Latin.

  That defines every argument ever made by a JW. They cannot see that they are fighting to prove - not truth - but the flippant ideologies of the WTS. JW's "proved" all blood was wrong - now they prove fractions are not blood with the very same scriptures - shall we travel back in time? Eventually all JW's have to fight against the very theories they once so viamently defended. Its only a matter of time Reniaa. But dont worry, we'll forgive you. I doubt you cab expect that from the WTS.

  Jw's are trained to believe it is only proper to be good in the "truth". All other pursuits are seeking after this world.

  I was raised a JW and therefore was very good at convincing myself that the rediculous teachings of the WTS were true despite the mountains of proof to the contrary.

  Now I am not good at anything...

  The Official What happened at the Memorial thread

  i thought rather than everyone start their own topic relating their experience of attending the memorial, we keep it simple and have just one thread.

  if anything, it's saves bandwidth.. i will be going to the memorial tonight and will post my experiences afterwards.. all the other memorials i attended, i was an active jw, so this will be my first experience as a submarine witness.

  it's weird being on the other side so to speak.

  we had a "visiting" speaker that basically read word for word that watchtower article about the "wealthy benefactor that bought the struggling company and gave everyone their old jobs back". they guy actually said "benfactor"

  Oh thanks special visting speaker! I havent heard that illustration 42 times. While your up their why dont you tell us the one about how raising kids is like slowly releasing a spring or shake a can of metal and glass and say you are making a watch????

  (aside from all the other reasons they are a cult- see other thread about wt mind control) my question is, isn't bethel rather like a commune?

  NO JW IS EVER ALLOWED TO TEST THE WTS! EVER!!!

  The WTS and JW's love to say they examine what they are taught from the bible. But all of us here know beyond any shadow of doubt that JW's do NOT examine what they are taught, they examine the bible topically and in light of what they are taught in the WT!

  If JW's followed this scripture there would be no WTS because all JW's would have seen that the WTS is a false prophet!

  Reniaa - how does just stating this scripture mean anything? how does quoting the bible answer a question against the WTS? Oh wait, it doesnt! Its an empty meaningless way to try and deflect a legitimate question by using the bible as a distraction. Typical JW-Cult protocol. BTW Reniaa - YOU ARE AN APOSTATE. Accept it. So why dont you can the apologetic rhetoric?

  i remember when I was a kid telling people that we are not a cult because we are a legally recognized religion. I was actually told that by an older JW at the time.

  so we are not a cult because we have church tax-exempt status... of course!!!!

  on a side note my parents and my brother all want to leave too my dad is still in as an elder.

  Thanks for the Kudos Lukewarm... special thanks to leolaia who continues to make all of us sound smart!

  we can spend hours and days trying to tear apart complex teachings of the WTS and to no avail with JW's and even to non/ex JW apologists. But sometimes all you need is one simple fact that blasts a 2 foot in the heart of a major theoligical position of the WTS.

  changing the math in a formula half way is akin to failing math in school and working as an accountant.

  It sounded good for these boys at the time but now its all about damage control and protecting the one huge basket they have all their eggs in - 1914

  over the years i have been priviledged and i have had many life experiances.. i have read the qu'ran and prayed in a mosque.. i have read the bible and prayed in a church i have also served in a church in a choir.. i have been to catholic, methodist and church of england churches trying to find the truth.. i believe in christ i believe in god.. .

  this year i have had a particular hard time with my life and recieved an invite to the memorial service.. i had every intention of going along (let me state i am not a jw).

  you will have to believe that Jehovah and Jesus will, very soon, slaughter every man, woman, and child that is not a Jehovah's Witness. Yes, all six billion of earths inhabitants, except for the nearly 7 million JWs will be destroyed very soon. And if you pay very close attention, every JW is threatened that they too will be destroyed if they don't preach and recruit enthusiastically.

  so because i come freely in the forum to discuss my life and my beliefs i become an apostate? - according to the WTS, yes. (not my opinion) Let me ask you this

  I think you misunderstood my comment, that was not me judging you, I was merely stating the position of a JW and the WTS. I am definitely considered an apostate by the WTS even though the extent of my antagonism against the WTS is limited to this site.

  According to the WTS if you disagree with them you are to pray about it and "talk" to the elders. If you still dont agree, and they dont DF you at that point, you are to keep your opinion to yourself and "wait" on Jehovah. If you express that opinion you will be disfellowshipped for either apostasy and/or causing devisions.

  I believe all should be accepted for their own beliefs, the WTS however says its their way or the everlasting-death-way
