i've heard there is a very secretive process the wts uses to determine whether or not they'll consider someone "of the annointed.

" from what i've heard it's a very rigorous set of questions.

"I've never heard this and it would go against JW theology if they made this change. The governing body justifies their power because they claim to be the representatives of the faithful and discreet (slave), the anointed. They fancy themselves a sort of elder body for the anointed. Since they interpret Mathew 24:45-47 to mean that Jesus has appointed the remnant of the 144,000 as the FDS, they draw their own authority from claiming to be the spokesmen, an elder body, for the FDS. To put non-anointed on the governing body would make no sense keeping these teachings in mind. The non-anointed are not supposed to be taking a leadership role under JW theology because Jesus didn't appoint them to oversee the "domestics."

It's possible, probably highly likely, that they changed the 1935 teaching in order to persuade "capable," long-time Bethelites to decide that they are part of the anointed after all in order to qualify for vacant GB spots."

i thought that was the 'new light' like 7 years or so ago, that they were setting up non-annointed to participate in GB duties...can someone confirm or tell me i'm off my rocker.

i gotta say that i'm really happy to find this forum and i agree with most of you on a lot of stuff.

but, i sure don't understand everyone's taste in music here....wow, some horrid top tens.

props to the beatles, led zep, metallica (sans black album and those years, master of puppets baby!), sure hendrix, ok, nirvana even though they were ripping off the pixies and mudhoney and others.

the rest, i guess i'm at a huge disconnect with the lot of you....but i'm admitted music snob...a cynic and in the industry...so threads like this make me want to find comrads and people who surprise me w/ stuff i haven't thought about or heard...but, ouch.

i believe i saw dead milkmen in someone's top ten....that's reaching. i saw them live twice right around 1990 i think, pretty much one of the lamer bands to come out of that era and their opening acts were always so much better...people would clear out of the venue two or three songs into their sets, it was hilarious.

oh, i forgot props to abba, seriously, abba inspired a lot of bands in ways most people don't realize.

prince, pre-i'm-a-jehovahs-witness-would-you-like-to-live-forever-in-paradise, i also agree with...respect wise, but he produced a lot of crap as well......i'll also put some of michael jackson's work into the respect zone.

anyway, this thread is great and i disagree with most of you.

the rolling stones are an embarrassment, they were cooler than the beatles for a few years, then since the 70's found their formula and stuck with it to purchase their mansions....i respect yoko ono more than rolling stones, let's go play a stadium b/c they'll still sing to 'start me up' and i can get my plumbing fixed in my castle.

thanks gopher, that's a trip. i can't believe they doubled it, so they were making 50% profit (but the whole operation was volunteer, from the prep to selling and everything....that is a huge profit margin not to have to pay out to anyone), then when the tax 'gods' came down on them, like for the literature, they went to donation, found jws weren't given it up like before and cut out the meals.

which after they discontinued it, it was hard to imagine that we actually ate that crap.....and there are times when i walk by a cheap deli and i smell shitty meat that i'm reminded of the assembly.

ok, in layman's terms .

can someone explain to me the technology of fax to email?

i surfed the web but only found where to buy the software and whenever i call a company they either do not know or just don't want to tell me.

do you need fax to email specifically, or can you just use something like windows built in fax console.

if you just need to fax or receive faxes ---you'll have to have the computer connected to you land line to do it, you have to install the fax component service in xp, then if you're faxing, when you print, select fax instead of print and dial the number.

if you need to receive faxes you open the console.

it should be in the help section if it's xp or similar. MAC, i couldn't tell ya.

but i use the fax option all the time to fax out and i don't need to receive faxes.

it's so funny, they're giving talks on the harms of smoking, and clogging everyone's arteries at lunch.

AND CONSPIRACY THEORY:

all that food ended up constipating me after the first day....was that a plan to keep the people in their seats. by day four i had to take a laxative...even though i was a teen.

segue, what about all them bathroom attendents? i have a hard enough time relaxing to go in a public restroom, but when a 'humble volunteer' directs me to where i need to poo all i could think about what, he totally knows i'm pooing and for how long.

and those poor sisters...did they just think, hmm, i'm most likely going to have a BM in an hour, so time to get in line for the bathroom.

anyway, all that food had to be a profit to the society somehow.

something always bugged me about the society's publications.

they'd always use phrases like "many persons do this" or "one expert says", or "many believe".

the person being referred to or quoted is always veiled in obscurity.

hey all.

i got sidetracked in a comment i left earlier today....and it occurred to me to ask this question.

i used to believe in prayer.

i think it's the 'what if?' scenario.

what if there isn't a god, or god is not who we have assumed? is it harmful for people to pray? i don't think so. if it works for them, if they're getting piece of mind, if problems are working out, then pray baby pray.

but that's prayer, there's also self talk and self dialogue which everyone has and some aren't even conscious of it. putting word out to the universe to make something happen, i've personally witnessed it happen to me over and over again. sometimes it's prayer. sometimes it's writing down what i need. that might be just setting personal goals who knows?

i have a hard time believing in myself, some of it from the propoganda we grew up with, some of it from inherited depression....and you know me personally, so you know my quirks.

if prayer could get rid of my demons (aka phobias), i'd pray every day. but prayer actually gives me anxiety attacks sometimes, reminding me how fucked up being a jw was and why would god allow that dogma on kids?

i believe in prayer and prayer having power. i don't pray more than once a month, about as much as i smoke a cigar...hrmmm, maybe the two are related?

there's powerful forces in the universe that we can utilize, either through self talk, meditation (i typed medication first, is that a freudian slip?), or prayer.

i won't discount any of them....like i even have a hard time buying into anthony robbins 100%, but about 20% of what he says, and most of what he says is regurgitated psych 101, does provide results.

if someone says they pray and their prayer has been answered, more power to them.

i'd wear a cross for ironic purposes. i have a 'master of puppets' metallica t-shirt which has a ton of crosses on it....i'm getting a suit made w/ crosses on it, more as a gothic look, than as a christian look, they'll probably be upside down.

i see it as religious art, nothing more...........and since it's fallic, all the more reason to wear one. :)
