i've noticed that usually when someone who is very religious finds out that i am an atheist, they become very agitated even though i never actually said anything negative about their religion.. are they embarrassed?.
do they think i am condemning them?.
do they see me as a threat?.
Most religious folk believe their world has survived as long as it has due to their ?promoting?, their version of God.
Atheists, whether they act religious or not, are generally surprised the community of mankind has actually survived as well as it has in spite of what has been wrought by those who endorse so many God fantasies.

there was a programme on channel4 a fews weeks back basically revealing conspiracy theroies about jfk assasination to be a load of nonsense.oliver stone defended his film (which this programe had torn apart) by saying well people know its just a film and dont believe everything in movies.
but his missed a vital point , what if the film is all a person knows of that event.

Due to brilliant marketing of Hollywood movies and American Television, I suspect, it?s easier for third world populations to watch American or European movies and television programming than it is for those hopeless millions to have access to food, medical aid, personal safety, let alone, have a shower.
I sometimes wonder how poverty stricken, oppressed moviegoers in the Middle East or Central Africa are affected while they watch manufactured Western dominated television and movies about what must appear to them, to be rich, violent and uncaring westerners, who never seem to have to do an honest days work for their abundant riches while Western and European corporations suck the oil and mineral resources from their third world homeland like some 19 th century colonial vacuum cleaner.
But, hey... who has time to care! Lord have mercy...I've got an SUV that guzzles gas like there's no tomorrow.

Regardless of her conclusion after 17 years, a parent would have provided her and every other child in the family, by donating cash to the service counter for field-service and personal study...bi-monthly magazines, book-study books, reference materials, Bibles, Corporate behavior/training manuals disguised as children's religious story books and teen psuedo-guidance books, leaflets, and contribution-box donations on behalf of a child to absolve guilt, for the better part of 17 years.
Perhaps not a huge sum over 17 years, but muliply the printed and non-printed product consumption of a typical, captive JW child, times millions of families and that's a lot of tax-free cash accumulated to invest in real-estate for Jehovah.
Not to worry...the minute the Kingdom Hall door has slammed shut behind her, there'll be another JW kid along to do his/her stint as a consumer statistic for the next 17 years.
Lament the loss?...naaah...Jehovah's "bean-counters" have an architects meeting in the morning.

Simple?someone once said, it?s better to fade because the WTBTS corporate financial exec's would rather you disassociate, immediately.
I think what is meant is, the stigma of disassociation is generally absolute with less time than the fader to chip away at the stupor of WTBTS congregational publication buyers, thus perpetuating a more profitable bottom-line for Corporate Jehovah.
Nothing personal, It's a business...the individual Jehovah's Witness is an expense until volumes of publications are purchased (donated) regularly and a liablility if not promoting the purchasing (donating) of said publications.

every so often, i will read on this board, how some people will defend and apologize for what jws do or believe in.....i just don't get it.
If the WTBTS was a financial client, or a potential financial client i.e. Chase Manhattan Bank, realtor, paper and printing equipment supplier or computer equipment supplier, etc. I would be singing, whole-heartedly, the praises of whatever it was my "gravy-train" customer does.
That's the American Way, and the WTBTS...IS an American Corporation and beneficiary of that association even if the WTBTS chooses NOT to wave it's countries Flag for marketing purposes.

I suspect it?s quite difficult for a government to peacefully ban the thoughts and beliefs of anyone.
However, banning a quantifiable ?business? of religion, now that?s another thing.
I suspect the government backed Russian Orthodox Church?s financial officers weren?t all that pleased with having to compete with an American based, religious publications money making machine, particularly on Russian turf.
Perhaps this episode has more to do with American economic opportunity and a display of Russian financial sovereignty between cosmic name-droppers, than any professed concern for humanity relative to the state of either marketed dogma.
Now, if Corporate Jehovah could swing a deal, and make it financially worthwhile for both sides, perhaps it could be business as usual, going forward.
