Help Please - Wife Misses Friends, Wants to return to KH
by Mad Sweeney inthe topic says it all.
i am frustrated and dumbfounded.
i understand that she misses the social activity with her "friends" but we have been "very" busy socially the last several months with new friends and she's been having a great time.

Tell her you understand and don't stand in her way. Then be there to pick up the pieces when she comes home drained from listeing to the drivel delivered at the meeting or hurt by the funny looks she'll get. Try not to say "I told you so".
I also like undercover's idea... :)

I went to college as a young JW. I lived in another country where going to college was seen as more of a necessity and not as demonized as in the US. I did the first two years at home and transferred to another city in my junior year. This was a "no-no" and my "christian conscience" bit me in the ass. I had a serious depressive episode, triggered by guilt, which caused me to drop out in the middle of the first semester.
Fast forward to the spring of 09... at the age of 49 I went back to finish my BA in Liberal Arts. I am in a program designed for adult students with at least 30 credits under their belt. It is through a well respected state university and it's done completely online. It is very affordable and worth every penny. I will graduate in December at the age of 51.
It's never too late.

What did you think of the American Idol finale results?
by Think About It ini think crystal did much better than lee as far as performances in the finale.
also think she is much more talented.
lee is a great singer and will only get better the more comfortable he gets going big time.

Dacheech: I am a huge Adam Lambert fan. He was robbed on AI. Chris should not even have been in the top five. If Adam had lost to Gokey or Irraheta it would not have been so bad. The only reason Adam lost is because he was openly gay and there are still many people out there who can't handle that and can't acknowledge talent in someone who is "different".

I told my family from the beginning that Lee and Crystal would be in the finale. I think Crystal is the bigger talent but I'm not sad Lee won.
Crystal did much better the night before the finale, Lee actually seemed a little "zoned out". I think Lee won because so many voters are young females who swoon over the cute guys.
I think they both will do just fine in the long run.

Another personal experience with current JW's
by James_Slash ini guess i am used to hearing the word "miserable" now with current jw's.. i have spoken to four within a week who all claim their existance with the wtbts is an unfulfilling one.. i had a friend many years ago who remains on the 'fringes' of the congregation.
yet, now i am out whenever he gets the chance he tries to preach to me.
yet, in the same breath he states how he enjoys going nightclubbing and holidays - with excessive amounts of alcohol (with all current jw's) and whilst away from the watchful eye of their parents, often meet (i won't say 'worldly' as that is a jw term - but) women who do not share the same beliefs that they claim to have yet they hold far much more in common then what they would care to know.

My 86 year old mother is miserable as well. She was always ubber theocratic and never expected to be old in "this system". Does she do anything (read, take up a hobby, go for a walk, partake in the many activities in her Assisted Living home, sit on the porch on a pretty day...) to make life a little sweeter? No, she's waiting for the new system to make everything right...

Where do I begin?
by Backspacer ini'm new here but have been reading/lurking for several months.
it's good to know that i'm not alone in my ex-jw status and that my story and experiences are not unique.
i have no bitterness or anger anymore.... that's long gone since i left some 12 years ago.

It no longer bothers me as I no longer believe in the christian god or the book he's supposed to have inspired, but...
I grew up hearing this quoted time and time again by my mother who would use it to prove to herself and others that she needed a man to live. While the WT tried to make it clear that it referred to being more delicate which meant more precious and not inferior, this was usually not how most saw things. It always made me feel that witness men saw women as second best and though I personally did not feel this way I could not do anything about it. It frustrated me.
