not sure of the point of telling my story, but just got off the phone with my grandma and i am so angry, stressed and i don't know what else...i guess i just wanted to hear from someone other than my husband that i'm not crazy for my reaction to family interaction.. my condensed story gramatical errors and all :).

It's amazing how many variations of this story there are. It is terrible that you had to endure this during your formative years, though it sounds like you have found happiness away from the JW's. I am always amazed at how JW's elevate themselves as being "better" than the world, yet produce as many, if not more, dysfunctional families than the very "worldy" ones they condemn...what a bunch of hypocrites!!

I just saw it. I don't understand the uproar over the "environmental" theme and lack of Biblical authenticity...it wasn't really that obvious to the average person.
I went with the mindset that it was a fantasy movie, similar to Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit. For me it was just a mediocre movie that dragged frequently. The effects were so-so, and the acting passable. My overall take away was that this was a movie that would not stand up well on its own merits, but has been boosted by hype and bad publicity. Brilliant marketing, crappy movie.

If she is having sex with you now and she is an active JW, she knows what she is doing is wrong. There are only two outcomes to this...one, she will leave JW's and you will live happily ever after...or two, she get's conscience pangs, confesses her sins, takes her discipline and becomes a "good" JW. The second outcome will not be pleasant for you. She will start to pressure you to convert...and don't be surprised if she starts withholding sex and intimacy as a condition to your complying. Unless she is willing to abandon the JW's, you will be at risk of a tumultuous relationship. The last thing you need is strife and having the kids become a battle ground. I hope things work out for you...

whenever a new branch or k/hall is built, its always proof that supposedly j is blessing his people and speeding up the work.
does that mean when they have to close a bethel branch it means he is pissed off with "his people"????.
Sell and rent back is very common...WT will get the cash, and the locals will be stuck with the rent back cost. Pretty clever actually...
i just got back from my afternoon walk/run and about a block from home i saw two sets of jw's going door to door handing out invites to the memorial.. the first pair walked past me and only said "good afternoon" as they passed.. about two minutes later the second pair approached me and handed me an invite to 2014 memorial on april 14. i asked them why they chose the jw's as their church of choice and was told "we'd like to chat more but we have a set number of invites we have to get out before the memorial.
if you contact the kingdom hall listed here, they will tell you more... on how god's kingdom will rid the world of satan and the evil associated with him.".
i replied "you can't talk now?".
I like my wife's description of the Memorial from an outsider's point of view..."it has all the warmth of a tax seminar"!
there are a great many fine posts here - and some from 8 years back - detailing how apathetic and perfunctory the organization has become.. and yet, it still stands, doesn't it?.
is there any point to be reached in this apparent 'experiment in sociology' in which they wake up and say 'screw this?

I am not convinced anything will wake everyone...if pedophilia cover ups, major "new light", flip flops on doctrine, etc. haven't done the trick, I don't know what will. If a person is brainwashed, it's tough to change that group think. Depressing thought, but an unfortunate reality...
in the past few weeks, the shunning issue has become a very personal one for me, and i have begun to realize that it is not just enough for me and my family to fade out.
after some recent events, i am motivated to start some anti-watchtower activism of my own.. i, like many others, have hoped that there would be a scandal of epic proportions within the organization, something that would wake others up and trigger a mass exodus.. while i am still hopeful that this may happen, it seems that the organization is too good at damage control, and heightening the paranoia surrounding apostates.. but what if the ex-witness community tried a different approach?.
what if, to borrow a hockey term, a sort of shut out situation was created?.
I like the concept...I just wonder if people are pro-active enough to do what they need to to get on the "do not call" list. Many people just "go along" to be polite. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
for some reason my husband has picked this topic after months of non communication of anything related biblical at all.
( he believes he came up with the idea onhis own ( he was raised jw and left as a 18 year old...ugh...right).

according to the english press this morning mr phillips the head of the mormon church has been summoned to appear in court on the fraud act of 2006 which prohibits false representation being made that causes someone to loose money.. " this has been a very seriouse matter that has been looked at with extreme detail" prosecutors comment.. its interesting that the act is from 2006 and amoung other charges is the authentisity of the book...... .
