The works James speaks of are the fruit of faith. Christians do good works as a result of their faith...JW's believe you have to do works to prove that they have faith. Christians believe that faith in God's grace is the source of salvation...JW's believe that works ultimately provide salvation.

Question for our WT history experts
by tenyearsafter in.
does anyone know the significance or meaning of the suit of armor depicted in the upper right hand corner of the picture?.

In looking at the image a bit more, I noticed that along with the armor, sword and battle axe, it also has the shepard's hook (Crosier)...it is amazing how many "pagan" symbols of Christendom the early WT incorporated. I wonder if all of these symbols were still used by the WTS in 1919 when Jesus inspected them and chose them as the only true religion??

Wow...I am no fan of the WT, but for them to allow an active JW leading a cartel family seems a bit far fetched. I take things on Wiki with a grain of salt, since anyone can post there. I can certainly accept that he converted to a JW sometime in his life...that description fits a large number of people on this forum...but it is a bit of a stretch to believe that he was a JW in good standing during his cartel years.

I guess it isn't tied to Knights of Columbus based on this image:

The first thing that came to mind for me was some sort of connection to the Knights of Columbus, but I am not knowlegeable enough to really make that connection. I am going to do a bit more research and see why the early WT used that symbolism.

Couple of questions for the Christians here - CO's talk mentioned some things that I want to understand
by Doubting Bro inthis is a question for all the christians on the board.
i sat through the first co talk last night which was basically a plea to not give up preaching.
one of his main points was that no one else had "the truth" and every other person that claims to be christian is in error.

The CO is definitely wrong that Christians don't celebrate his death. Every time Communion is served, it is commemorating the Lord's Supper (JW equivalent of Memorial). They differ from JW's in that they don't feel that it can only be done once a year...they interpret the scripture, "...whenever you do this..." as not requiring a limitatation of celebrating only once a year. The Resurrection of Christ is celebrated annually on Easter (or Resurrection Sunday as many Christian churches have now called it).
Again, it is always easy to disseminate half truths to support a position...JW's are experts at this approach!

The Lord's Memorial Day
by lovelylil in* this thread is for the church and not to be used for debating christianity.
i would ask that those who are non-believers please respect the beliefs of others today.
thank you in advance.. for two millenia since christ's death, christians all over the world have been participating in what is known as the the last supper.

Thanks lovelylil...and I agree with you that how often and when is not the issue, but why you do it!
It is interesting that the Jewish Passover is starting on April 19th and the Lord's Evening Meal is April 17th...somewhere along the line, the Jewish calender and the JW calculations went out of synch.
