Even though you've had a horrible time with her it is kind of you to reach out and help the family in some way. These days instead of sending flowers and such I tend to spend the money on grocery store gift cards and tell them that I hope it takes a little bit of the burden away from their difficult times. I send them to sick people, give them to grieving families after losing loved ones. I figure a little financial help is always welcome.

Just got a phone call...
by amama2six inmy oldest daughter (who is currently up in ct) just called to tell me my stepmother (wicked witch of the west) was in an accident yesterday evening.
she was riding a moped and crashed it into a parked car (don't ask me what an overweight 53 year old woman with bad knees is doing on a moped but whatever...supposed to save on the cost of gas or something).
anyway...she shattered her right leg and wrist in the accident (her good walking side) and apparently will never be the same.

Ahh I love this show. If you ever get a chance to watch the behind the scenes shows I think it explains a bit better as to why they do this whole crazy thing. It's more than just a bunch of kids show, I think it must be absolutely mind boggling to have 6 of the same age 24/7. I have just one and he wears me out some days. I still watch because they keep it real. Watched an episode last night where Kate was just losing her mind over a small dresser knob and I just had to laugh. I've had those moments myself and could feel her pain and feeling of being completely overwhelmed that day. I don't think Kate has changed as a person, Jon knew exactly what he was getting and still loves her. I bet even more after watching her be mom to 8 kids.

Well, I'm nauseated now. Gag inducing dramatizations at my DC
by Lady Zombie induring the hour long symposium: empowered by holy spirit.
under the part "to fight temptation," a little dramatization of a young married man doing some work on his laptop.
he is tapping away when he suddenly slams his laptop shut.

I find the example of the guy with the porn popping up on his "laptop" hysterical. I swear that is what the society would like all JWs to believe that if they even open their computer the porn will come pouring in randomly and without invitation.
I find it just amazing that I have an online business and easily visit over 200 websites a month and have never had porn pop up on my latop or desktop. Why, because I don't visit those sites in the first place.
It is a good thing I don't attend anymore because I would be that person talking quite loudly to all around me to hear and mentioning quite clearly that the internet doesn't work that way and he has obviously been a porn site visitor previous to this and NOW he is getting worried about it? Then maybe for additional effect I could stand up, point my finger and scream ADULTERER!!!

Did you return to celebrating holidays?
by song19 inwith this new light, i am starting to try and figure out what to do with my life and my time... now that the world is opened up for me to finally explore.. i have been wondering if i will return to celebrating the holidays with my 'worldly' relatives.
my parents, brother, and in-laws are all witnesses.
i have pretty much rejected the holidays say for 25 years.

I was born in, married a nonJW but still didn't start celebrating until my son was born. My husband was great the first few years about me not being comfortable about celebrating anything but once our little guy came along I wanted to create those memories for him.
My husband talks about all the great birthdays and holidays he had as a kid and I didn't want my son to miss out so we have been having a blast. I have very few memories of good times and/or parties as a kid and I think that is really sad.
My parents are not invited to my house during December as it also includes my son's birthday. I do a faux Thanksgiving dinner with them and then shoo them away until the new year.
It will be interesting this year as we are attending a family reunion over the 4th of July and all the relatives except for my parents are nonJW's. They were warned there would be a celebration and fireworks and they said they were okay with it, so we'll see. My little guy I'm sure will be running around with a good ole American flag in his hand
As for never being able to enjoy them if you start, pshaw! It just takes practice and then it gets really fun!

AZ Welcome! I too watched your video last night and cried along with you. It is amazing how long the pain of living a life in this religion lasts.
Even though my post count is low, I visit here almost everyday so my best advice is to click on the "active topics" at the options menu near the top of the page. Be warned, some days it can be very active and you'll find several pages of posts from the day.
Lots of people have information about their exit in their profiles which can give you a framework as to where they are coming from and their experience.
Take your time, there is a lot to take in here but along with that there is an amazing amount of information, support and really cool people that hang out here :)

I used sit during the wedding "talks" (note: NOT a ceremony) and wait, wait, wait...for the classic illustration of the squeezing the tube of toothpaste in the middle versus the end and how that could create tension in the marriage (wait for big laugh from congregation).
Not sure what held me back from standing up and screaming "NOT AGAIN! NOT THIS FREAKING LAME ASS JOKE AGAIN!"

Wow, all you had to do was change a few terms here and there and it was like reading someone's life story on here. They put some crazy pressure on people though! They work a lot harder at keeping their recruits than JW's do.

First thing I'm doing is going over and crashing Restrangled's shower for some yummy food! :)
Actually got up early and took my son to the first farmer's market of the year. Bought our tomato starts, some kettlecorn (currently munching on) and had some shaved ice with grape flavor. Bought him his sandals for the summer, went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for an early lunch.
Came home to hubby having installed the window A/C and mowing the front lawn - yipppeee! Watered my hanging baskets that I received for Mother's Day (cause I can CELEBRATE it now!) and that is about it. I think I'm going to go take a nice nap now.
