those who aren't in the truth i feel much pity for you.

all of you are filled with much hatred and anger that all you can do is blast out of your stupid mouths horrible things about the one true religion.

i know it's hard for alot of us to control the anger we feel over being hoodwinked for many years...but remember the many lurkers who read this site like i was a few months back. the more love and logic we show, the less hate and anger we display, the more we will open the minds of those who are on the fence. sometimes i wonder if i would recommend this site to someone in doubt because of some of the hostility towards current jw members. just remember most of us were in the same situation at one time - it takes different paths and different reasons for people to finally see with open eyes....

as for 333 - welcome and look around. if you seriously believe your statement, then examine those beliefs against the arguments presented here. if you do this with a true yearning for understanding and knowledge you will either have your beliefs re-inforced if they are true or your eyes opened if they are not. my guess is much awaits you.

i can't believe i had that attitude...that because someone wasn't a JW they weren't worthy. what a jerk I was. May God have mercy on my soul.

The Effect of Losing Elders

losing elders in the us puts the organization into quite a dilemma.

they hate large congregations.

but can't split without enough appointed local 'enforcers'.

I agree they seem to be getting desperate for people to cover. I personally have 3 relative-in-laws who were appointed Elders UNDER THE AGE OF 30. Also the local hall has been appointing ministerial servents left and right from brothers who either are very new to the truth or have 0 teaching/speaking abilities. I know that is not a qualification for being a MS, but why assign brothers public talks and instruction talks who you can barely understand and aren't very coherant? Because the older elders are tired of doing all the work and more than happy to pass it on to anybody and everybody. When I was serving I know I had at least one part, sometimes two every Thursday night.

Fresia...my story

hello all, i must say it is really very hard for me to know where to start.

but i guess a little bit of background before i became a jw may have to be said.

i came from a disfunctional family and at the age of 3 was sent to homes, returned back to my family only later on to be sent back to other instituations, mainly due to neglect, but later on due to my running away from an abusive home.. my mother was religious, permiscuious but still religious, this turned me of religion in general but i liked and believed in the bible.

Welcome Fresia and thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like you have been through a lot but are trying to keep a positive attitude. Best wishes on your journey. JW's may have some things correct, but their refusal to accept any criticism or disagreements to the point of shunning those who attempt to discuss these, even though they have been shown wrong about many statements, makes them guilty of unchristian behavior.

here is part of my story until i have more time.

i am know 30 years old, i have been married for almost 9 years to someone who has no relgous ties at all.

i was baptized when i was 19 due to pressure from my family, they wanted me to to get baptized when i was 16. i think i may hold the record for most comitee meetings probably about 20, i was publilcly reproved and disassociated.

God help me - Just finished Crisis of Conscience

i don't know whether to laugh or cry.. a friend lent me coc yesterday and i stayed up most of the night reading it.

it took me 13 hours and i skipped the meeting today to keep reading, i couldn't bear to put it down.. i am shocked but not surprised at how closely ray's thinking mirrors my own in some ways.

the part that hit me hardest was.... "conviction, it has no meaning or validity unless it is individual, personal.

Remember to keep looking forward - and feel blessed that you now have the ability to mold and shape the rest of your life in a better way. Focus on that instead of looking back at what is lost. Nothing can change the past but you are well on your way to changing the future.

Work to accomplish what you would have never tried within your former walls. You have broken free of the rut - feel the happiness that comes with being able to explore your new world without boundries.

That is what keeps me from feeling pain or anger towards the past - I know I have so much to look forward to now!

Body Modification/older societies/similar to WBTS view of women

i have just read the book, "snow flower and the secret fan" along with watching part of the national geographic series "taboo".

sadly, most of the modification involves distortion of the female body which then inturn, affects the minds for generations.. most of the justification for the body modification was to keep women in line mentally.

generation after generation of mothers were taught that neck lengthening, breast flatening, foot binding, and female circumsizing kept the girls clean and free from attracting men and kept them "down" in their societies.. i am not suggesting the wbts society approved of these physical methods, but the mental ramifications were adhered to and the result is the same.. women are considered second class citizens in this patriarchal society.

Is 2034 the ultimate Watchtower date?

a recent wacktower had hinted that the year 2034 would be the final date for armaggedon.

if armageddon has not arrived by 2035 then will the wts close shop for good or will they simply accuse the past presidents of apostacy and regroup to form another daughter of the tower offshoot baseless religion?.

Actually the 120 years of Noah need to be taken prophetically using the day for a year formula. So just like the 7 times we'll assign 360 day years first and come up with 43,200 days - translated to 365 day years means the end will definately come in 45,114.

Well dang - that kinda takes the urgency out of everything, doesn't it.

Irregular publisher

i almost got declared one.

elder said he wanted to take me out in service so i don't.

said i'd have that for 6 months.

I'm irregular now and halfway to inactive! June, July, and now August will be my first 3 no field service months since I was baptized 20 years ago. I'm still waiting on the fallout, so far all i've gotten is a call at the end of each month asking for my time. Not sure if the wife even knows I'm not reporting yet... I think if you can handle what you will get initially from the elders it will be worth the effort. I imagine after a couple months they'll just figure you're not worth the trouble...at least that's what I'm hoping.
