I look at the Bible as mans attempt to understand God. IMHO it is not from God/Jehovah/YHWH, but about him, his Son and the Holy Spirit. Why would they bother to write about him, is it a genelogy of the Jews and their God?

A Bible Question, please comment
by restrangled inthere will have to be assumptions involved here.....that god exists, the bible is the word of god and creation is as stated in genesis, etc.
etc.. in the old testament, god seemed pretty straight forward, let certain people know (and not by osmosis) his intent.
backed certain kings, and showed power through physical occurrences over and over again.. along comes his son, who died for the entire race as a ransom for adam's sin.

I had a bucket of water thrown down at me from a unit as I walked up the side, it was a hot day so I guess wasn't to bad.
I also had what I thought was a really go prospect for a study, I was working on my own and this young women asked me in, she was really friendly and we continued our bible discussion in a friendly conversation, she made me tea and said to come sit out in her back yard, spread a blanket and we sat down debating doctrine looking up scriptures and as we talked I looked at her and imagined her being baptised, was a great morning, then it hit 12 noon, she looked at her watch and said " well you can get up and leave, I was gobbed smacked, she said I have kept you here most of the morning at least you I stopped you spreading youre poison and further. She was a born again.

A couple goes on a vacation to a fishing resort in Northern Minnesota.
The husband likes to fish at the crack of dawn. The wife likes to read.
One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.
Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors and continues to read her book.
Along comes a game warden in his boat.
He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning Ma'am. What are you doing?"
"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking "isn't that obvious?")
"You're in a restricted fishing area," he informs her.
"I'm sorry officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."
"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.
"But I haven't even touched you," says the game warden.
"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."
"Have a nice day Ma'am," and he left...
MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think . -

I saw no loving interest in caring for others in our congregation. My parents were pillars in the congregation, but as they moved into old age and mother developed Alzheimers and my father became her 24-hour caregiver, there was almost no interest in her welfare or my father's for that matter.
During those yearsI remember a comment from one of the pioneers at a WT study that one evidence that we were the true religion was that we took care of our elderly. Yet she and the other pioneers, and elders, made almost no effort to visit them or comfort them. Not until my mother's death. Then we were flooded with condolences and stories about how much they were appreciated in the congregation. This is the main thing that led into my fade.
Same thing happened when my father became an invalid.
Totaly agree...they take care of older ones at bethel, but not outside, everything in the org is class or like a caste, and once no longer active within that class you mean nothing.
We have sister that is a nurse and goes to bethel to treat the elderly and ones that are of the anointed, but ouside of this it is different.

Just play it by ear...do what would be best for all (if thats possible) DA is just that DA and involves shunning, and other issues, need to get out of the emotion and ask questions relevant to the DA.
I would simply just not do nothing, and leave the ball in there court and be evasive. Saying nothing says a lot.

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 7-22-07 WT Study (Elderly Blessing)
by blondie inelderly ones, a blessing to the young.
do you associate often with people younger than you?
q1, 2) what should elderly servants of god appreciate, and what will we now consider?.

I truly find the only elderly that get attention are those that are have property and are very ill ready to cark it or are in nursing homes, this is true.
And I remember reading on the best post thread in someones experience about an elderly lady that was on her own for so long, and hadn't attended meetings because of age and health, brother were in the territory and called in, she was so pleased to see them and said I wondered why nobody called I thought I must have been disfellowshiped. Just disgracful.

Elders' wives and elders' kids - any different from the RnF?
by Inquisitor inelder's wives - the general impression of them in my congregation is that they are not to be messed with.
ews are all smiles in front of guests but brutally unaccomodating to more familiar brothers and sisters.
they put much effort in making "good" comments at the meetings, with the occasional veiled insult directed at certain individuals (i suppose this is the only outlet for a lady in jehovah's patriarchy).

Madame Quixote - I like your observations. The elders only have power over us if we allow them to. We've been programmed for so many years to obey them unconditionally--it's hard to break the mindset, but it's only in the mind. True... I just ignore them, they don't know what to make of me and thats cool.

appearances always supercedes love and fellowship in this orginazation.
B-I-N-G-O.
You get more points for appearing to be loving or righteous, than by actually being so. It's how you "project" your image as a JW that matters most.
To prove this, you're more likely to be DF'd (or publicly reproved) if your "sin" is public knowledge. But if it didn't gain notoriety among the gossiping members of the congregation, then you'll more likely get by with just a public reproof.
True. obedience to the law, but nothing from the heart, probably go home after the party and chain and whip.
