i wish to conduct a legitimate poll, or at least as legitimate as it can get on this forum.
unless you are or were a jw, please do not respond or make comments.
please simply give an answer, without extended comments.

as soeone raised in the truth my whole life i am struggling with a basic doctrinal issue.
the issue has to do with universal sovreignty and the ransom sacrifice.
let me try to illustrate by way of analogy:.
Perhaps we're all shooting in the dark here. We seem all to be assuming that the entire Adam and Eve story is literally, totally, utterly true. What if it isn't?
There is no evidence that the Hebrews had any written language until the time of Soloman. That means that the Hebrew history was merely an oral tradition. And an oral tradition isn't worth the paper it's written on.
I really do think that if we all concentrated on observing the two commandments of Jesus and forgot all about all this theological nit-picking about original sin, the atonement doctrine, a Messiah, the EXACT second some boob thinks armageddon is gonna pop, and all that other unknowable, unproveable stuff we'd all be a LOT better off. Wouldn't we?

i have been working on my letter to our local congregation to dis-associate myself.. since my wife is still very active in the non-truth and she also insist that i write this letter, i believe i will take her congregation address and telephone list and send my letter with all the facts about the wbts history of lies and send everyone in the congregation my letter via certified mail.
.
it would probally set me back a few hundred bucks but i think it would be well worth it, what do you think??
When one of my good friends in the Borg, an elder in my congregation, decided he'd had enough of the bullshit, he wrote a letter like the one you contemplate. And he sent it to each and every person in the congregation, and lots of other J-Dubs as well.
There had been someone in that congregation who had written such a letter while my friend was still an elder, and the other elders misrepresented the contents of his letter, making it seem like he was some kinda unprincipled, anxious to freely sin, jerk. My friend wanted to avoid that, so he sent his letter to one and all. And he never regretted his action. In fact, his letter was so well put together, several other people found themselves in total agreement with him and they left too!! Great legacy.
Your call.

most exjws are familiar with the claims that the gospel accounts about jesus "fulfills" around 300 prophecies in the old testament.
this claim is taken verbatim from christian fundamentalists.
checking out these so-called prophecies will reveal that they do not stand up to scrutiny.
Jan, don't you really mean to state "Prophecies Allegedly Fulfilled by Jesus"? I mean, the prophecies are there alright, and you're questioning that Jesus fulfilled them? Or do you mean your statement as it appears?
And to you others, it is NOT impossible to prove a negative, it is merely difficult in most cases. However, consider how easy it is to prove it is NOT raining in any given face-to-face conversation. Or that the sky is not green. Or any number of negative propositions.
Proving that you did NOT commit murder is something else altogether and it is difficult, though not impossible.
As for Matthew, I really think that given these guys were Jews, after all, and some had personal axes to grind with their own religion (perhaps in proving that Jesus was the Messiah for instance), it is not surprising that he and others went out of their way to attempt to prove that Jesus fulfilled this or that prophecy. And these are claim they made for him, he didn't make those claims for himself.

i just finished watching a program on the book of revelation.
it was a very interesting program.
but one thing i came out with was a puzzle.
Thanks you Larc & Seedy3. I see you are a man of outstanding discrimination and excellent taste, not to mention impressive intelligence. Takes one to know one, you know?
I see however I have failed once again in my primary mission, that is getting the Armageddon Nuts to Knock it off. I mean these people claim to be big bible believers which, you'd think, would mean that they have respect for its statement that no one knows the day and hour, not the angels, only the father. But NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo! These bible-thumpers have got it all fingered out and are going to inflict their specious bullshit on the rest of us whether we like it or not. These guys are giving religious nuts a bad name.
It would be funny it it weren't so dumb. When the moon is in the seventh house and 1260 days - which aren't really days but years - have elapsed and Hitler's girlfriend gives him a golden shower...oh hell it ain't even beginning to be funny. Makes a person just want to crack up. Can't even run a little Jay-Dub baiting site and have a few grins without the Foaming At The Mouth Class foam at the mouth. And then there are the usual dire warnings, "You're all gonna burn, burn, burn forever and ever amen. And I gonna be living in YOUR HOUSE when you're gone too, buster." And these nuts believe this shit, too, man.
You think maybe it's something in the water? Bad unleavened bread? That tight stricture you get when there has been insufficient release of precious bodily fluids causing a back pressure in certain nether regions which translate into an upsurge through the first chakra resulting in an increase in intra-cranial pressure causing dumb thoughts to be sparked and your eyes to bug out along with a corresponding pain known as Blue Balls? There's a new sulfa compound for that, you know, sulfa-buse. I think these guys should try it.

okay everyone, ai cannot believe what has just happened to me.
here i type away publishing my jc series showing how untrained and at times incompetant men should not be sitting in judgment of their fellow jws, when i get a summons from the cook, county office to appear for jury duty in chicago.
[don't they understand that al cappone said that there are no gangsters in chicago?
Don't sweat it. The point has already been made that few people actually serve on a jury once called. One of the prerequisites is that you can't even APPEAR to have the ability to think for yourself. The lawyers don't want that, they want people on that jury who they can TELL what to think. Why do you think that most juries are made up of cafeteria workers, floor sweepers, retired pet care workers, retired federal GS-6 employees, etc., etc.(Please, no nasty letters).
All you gotta do is show up dressed in a suit, clean-cut, carrying your copy of "Conscience of a Conservative" or something erudite like that. (I can't stand the thought of a fellow child-starver wasting time on a jury of nincompoops.)
If you are asked any questions, pull out as many polysyllabic words as possible and just generally act like you could find your ass with one hand, and you'll be outta there.

when i would question my mother about certain scriptures, she would always make the comment that the bible is only written for the 144,000. is there any truth to that?
(i know there isn't, but is that what the jw's teach?
) when she said that, i was just blown away because of all the years i was a witness, i had never heard that.
Yes, I have heard that from time to time - that the Bible was written only for the 144K.
Pay no attention to it. It's just more JW fanciful bullshit.

when you were in the borg.
in all honesty, could you say that you were h.a.p.p.y?
i mean really happy.
No, I despised it for the waste of time it was. I was frustrated with the brain-dead strictures.
I did like the getting laid at assemblies part, though.

many people seem to think that moral end ethics would be unknown if it werent for the bible.
the moral of the bible when examined thoroughly is to say the least, extremely relative.
looking at the hebrew scriptures it becomes clear that moral and law was pretty much a tribal and ethnic phenomenon.
The Code of Hammurabi is a good place to start if you want to know what moral code to live by - that is, if you really need some external rule to control your behavior.
The idea that we need to be told by an external that it's wrong to covet your neighbor's ass, or your neighbor's wife's ass, or any of that other stuff kinda denies spirit leading, doesn't it?
If you take a close look at the original ten, doesn't it strike you as kinda primitive that people hadda be told not to covet his neighbor's OX? and such? Primitive people were being addressed here. People who not that long ago had just been cajoled into giving up human sacrifice.
I'm with you, though, there's nothing "Christian" about christian morality. Hindus and Buddhists and Taoists had been getting it right for a helluva long time before Moses. And it seems they take it more to heart than christians do. There's no more bloodier religion than the Christian one has been over the ages. Islam is close, but no cigar.
