one thing i always wondered, but no one was able to answer.

when you preach to others, you encourage them to read the watchtower ect to gain knowledge about the bible, but wittnesses aren't supposed to read any other religious material.

i know this is because if they read it they might find the real truth, but how do wittnesses justify asking others to read material when they won't do the same themselves?

Ded's got it partially right. Hypocrisy is a large factor, but also there is self-righteousness, holier-than-thou attitude, willfull blindness, and underneath it all a huge intellectual dishonesty.

Did you notice, in one of the early paragraphs in one of Blondie's posts bearing the JW responst that the WT had inserted the word "must" in brackets into the text? I don't believe that Jesus said "must" did he? Then, the JW response included the thought that they had received divine instructions. Well, if divinity is a measure of the unity of the human to his maker, then the JWs have a lot of gall claiming unity with God, or even with the lowest of angels as long as they hide pedophiles, and engage in their thinly veiled money grubbing.

A few of us here ought to get together and write a pilot tv show based on a day in the life of your average JW. I think it should be Sunday. You've got two meetings to get ready for and then you've gotta go out in service and miss the football games and interrupt those who are not thus engaged. Then, as the day wears down, we introduce a father entering his daughter's room late at night, establish what we are hinting at and then fade to black. Then we sell this idea to one of the networks.

What would we name such a tv program?

do you think there is any correlation between intelligence and membership?

most jws i've known aren't that bright, and it seems that most that leave are really intelligent.. just an observation.

any thoughts?.

I believe that, in general, your assertion is correct. I will use the congregation I was in as an example, cause it's the best example I've got.

In this congregation we had a guy who graduated Ga Tech in physics with a 4.0; We had another guy who was brilliant but who was not "allowed" to go to college; we had me; we had one of those guys from the cartoons who always got sand kicked in his face before he took the Charles Atlas body building course. This was the entire "intelligensia" of the congregation. The rest of the congregation hardly had sense enough to come in out of the rain.

Three of the four mentioned above all left da troof in the same year. The skinny guy who got the sand, etc. stayed in because he was an elder and that was the only thing in his life that validated him.

On the other hand, my uncle was a congregation servant in the days prior to the elder arrangement, and has been an elder ever since. He is a research associate at Eastman Chemicals - an intelligent man; book smart but doesn't have the street smarts of a brick. Why does he stay in? See paragraph above.

I firmly believe that religion, especially cultic religion is an emotional phenomena, not an intellectual phenomena. It is, however, obviously easier to pull the wool over the eyes of a dummy than to do it to a person who has the lights on in his eyes denoting that someone in there is home.

those of you that know me well know that i'm not going to say anything or much of anything anymore in this forum.. .

however, i will be offering much of my music instead.

i won't be posting it here anymore.

If I remember correctly (and I do) artists of all sorts, including musicians, had to enter the huge homes of the nobility of their day via the servants entrance, and had to play dinner music from behind an opaque screen. They and the music they created were thus minimized and invalidated.

It was Beethoven who, at least for himself, put an end to this nonsense by insisting on entering through the front door. And who would have the guts to refuse Beethoven, whose reputation preceeded him? I dare say this behavior, this insistence on being treated with respect was the outworking of a healthy ego.

Relatively few people realize the close relationship between music and mathematics, however you seldom hear of a mathematician having to put up with the same crap offered to a musician.

Let them as can play. Let them as cannot listen and appreciate.

i don't always agree w. her but usually have to admit that she is right from a moral standpoint.

god knows we need more of that in this world!.

Dr. Laura didn't do much for her own image by coming across as the self-appointed "America's Moral Comapss" while at the same time, there is a website with quite a few pictures of her taken in her birthday suit by her boyfriend - including full frontal.

Everyone has skeletons, but I don't think it's wise to advertise your advanced morality and act like that site doesn't exist. Does reek of hypocrisy doesn't it?

The society used to be able to get away with the crap they "served" because for most of their history JWs were, in effect, a secret society. No one outside the organization knew much about what was going on and kinda dismissed JWs as misguided Christians out on the lunatic fringe.

This worked kinda like what goes on in superior court in any county in the US. Superior court judges get away with some of the dumbest shit you ever heard of unless and until someone turns some light on in those court rooms.

Well, now the society has created a relatively huge body of very, very angry people - angry about how much the society has hurt them, ruined their families, ruined their hopes for an education, killed their children with their absurd blood policy, ruined their lives with their crappy little man-made cult. I'd say there are as many people out now as there are people in now.

So take all these enemies, apostates, the society has created and couple them with access to the Internet and Voila, there is "new light" alright, but it ain't the kind the WT goes on and on about. The truth about da troof has been leaking out now for a good ten years and the speed at which it's coming out is increasing exponentially.

Y'know how fast a joke can go from coast to coast, even BEFORE the Internet? From the time some wag made up a joke on the east coast till it was told for the first time on the west coast averaged about 24 hours.

Well, the bad news about the Good News travels even faster than that. I have said before that evil contains the seed of its own destruction and that the society of Jehovah's Witnesses was evil through and through. We are merely witnessing (sorry) the end of this man-made cult. In the end, the WTBTS is going to go out with a whimper. Their desparate attempts at manipulating their members not to pay any attention to that little old man "behind the curtain" is failing and I predict that these efforts will become more and more desparate and as they do they will become funnier and funnier until they become nothing but pathetic.

It is well-known that cults attract people who are dysfunctional in large ways, mentally deranged, criminally mentally ill, etc. All one has to do to begin to understand the truth of that statement is to read Big Tex's post. JWs have more child sex abuse, spousal abuse, alcohol abuse, petty criminality, infanticide and other manifestations of dysfunction than any other cult, let alone any other religion.

I feel we will see the end of this deranged little cult in my lifetime, and I ain't no spring chicken any more.

Anybody ever try the Atkins Diet?

ok, this has probably been discussed before, but, how many here have tried the atkins diet?

did you have a good/bad experience with this diet.

the reason i ask is because i went to my doctor and my bp is way up.

About the caffenism. I did have the worst headache of my life (and I used to have migraines, this was worse), so I went to a truckstop and bought caffene pills. Worked just fine.

Mormon Malaise?

well, i was supposed to have a visit from some mormon "elders" tonight, but they called about 5 minutes after they were supposed to be here and said they couldn't make it and could we reschedule?

i was a bit irritated, since i had changed my plans for the evening to accommodate them, but i didn't express my irritation.. i wonder if they are being affected by the same sort of malaise that seems to be afflicting the jw's.

i could just as easily have told them to go fly a kite, and then i'd have been damned forever, all because they couldn't keep an appointment!.

Hey, when they come, would you ask a couple of questions for me?

First, is it really true that the location of the golden plates of the Book of Mormon was revealed to whoever it was it was revealed to by a white salamander? I've heard lots about that white salamander.

Second, I read a book one time called the Mormon Murders. Could you ask about the inside skinny on that?

Help Africans, Asians, South Americans?

many americans think their country went to war in iraq to free the iraqi people from tyranny.

if africans, asians, or south americans, faced a similar kind of "tyranny" (and some do) would the present american administration be there to "free" them also?

What do you consider middle aged?

yeah yeah, i know youre only as young as you feel, but is a 35 year old middle aged or young?

Bend? What bend? I didn't see any bend!

Actually, I felt like I was about 35 until I fell out of the tree 25 feet. In an instant, a mere blink of the eye, I had aged all the way up to 80. In the last four years since the accident, I have gradually gotten younger. Now I feel like I'm, Oh, I guess somewhere around 50. Which is still younger than I really am.

I also have the problem someone else described; there are longevity genes on both sides of my family. People in my family live well into their 90s going back as many generations as I could find. When someone dies in their 80s the family talks about how young they were to be dying.

Middle age? I think it starts about 65 and in fact, the older I get, the further away the end of middle age is. Strange how that works.
