So, critics argue that this convincing proof Daniel was there in the 2nd year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign. But if Daniel had already been there at least 3 years, how could he interpret the dream in Nebuchadnezzar’s 2nd year? It would have been at least his 3rd year. So, why did Daniel write that it was in the 2nd year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign? ~~~ This does not even make since, just because they were fed from the table of the king for 3 years does not mean that the disturbing dream happened after that time. And even if Daniel was counting from when Jerusalem was destroyed, and it says that it was after the 3 years of good food that the dream happened. Then how could it have also been 2 years after Jerusalem was destroyed? You cannot have it be 2 and 3 years after it was destroyed. I don't know what the real time table is, but the way they are trying to prove it in that article is not very good writing.

At lot of things are factual and the JWs just ignore it in favor of what works for them.

The work Word Studies in the New Testament by M.R. Vincent, comments that this word most frequently refers to practical Wisdom and prudence. 1904. Part Two of Four. Marvin Vincent's Word Studies has been treasured by generations of pastors and lay people. His insightful comments on the meanings, derivations and uses of significant Greek words and idioms bring a clearer understanding of the original language of the New Testament-even if you don't read a word of Greek. It's a valuable tool for incorporating the riches of the original language into sermons, lessons and personal study. from Amazon.com's deception of the book sited for the article. My thoughts are isn't it interesting that the best source the can come up with is over 100 years old, its not like any advancements in understanding ancient Greek could have been made in 100 years. And because JWs are so against learning and education they don't have anyone working in New York who actually speaks Greek or anything of the sort. (Also when you send JWs to college they tend to learn to think for themselves) You would think it would be encouraged to everyone living in Bethel and in New York to learn what they can. But not them.

Religions similar to JWs.
by LtCmd.Lore indoes anyone know of any religions that are very similar to jehovahs witnesses?.
it tends to come up in discussions with them a lot, they like to think that they are the only ones that don't believe in hell, the trinity, that jesus died on a stake, that they won't go to heaven, or stuff like that.
i could probaby just prove them wrong, but that would take forever and it would be a lot easier to just say: "you're not as unique as you think...".

That must be why I feel that I would be 'comfortable' in a Catholic Church. :) I think that I wouldn't believe it but sometimes I think it would be so nice and easy to just be told what to do and believe again. All this trying to read my bible and understand it myself, its just plain time consuming. :(

Has being a Witness made it hard for you to love Jesus?
by jwfacts inwhenever i hear the word jehovah i still feel warm and fuzzy.
he was the god that i spent hours talking to in prayer, petitioning, thanking, pleading with.
he was my father, the creator, the one who we would worship for eternity.. jesus on the other hand i never spoke or prayed to.

I still have so much trouble praying, after not doing it the last few years of being a jw, I don't know where to start or what to say.. Its weird b/c jws says that form prayers are bad but I always felt that their prayers were bad.. it always started with 'dear God' or even better 'Our most gracious and loving heavenly Father', and ended with 'In Jesus' name we pray'. And everything in the middle was just fluff.

I really hated it, I was always so scared that someone I knew would come to the door. I would get territories as far from where I went to school as I could, and I would always be like I have a call, its like 25 minutes away from when I was 'helping' another cong. work there territory. At the hall I went to we believed in long breaks.. u know like 1 call and then breakfast, which was eggs and pancakes at a local restaurant and then for good measure we would give the waitress a tract. :) those were the days when I was 13 and got free breakfast for showing up, almost made me what to go.

Dinah
by hilannj indid anyone ever notice that it is only jws that use the story of dinah's rape to be a warning for young girls to avoid 'bad association'.
most other religions focus on the reaction of her brothers (they killed the whole town) or that it was possibly two kids having sex which is bad also.
but as far as i can tell it is only jws that see it as a rape that was dinah's fault.

Goodbye, my sweet sister
by sweetface2233 ini was raised as a witness and have been miserable for my entire existence.
i have hated every moment of it.
after about 10 years of struggling, i decided 2 years ago that i was done w/ the charade and wasn't going to return to the meetings.

when my sister first got df, I stopped talking to her for a few months. I felt I was doing it out of love, but when I got no support from my cong. for 'losing' my sister, I realized that they were wrong to ask me to do that, and got really mad at them for not helping me more. I don't know what your cong was like but if they are anything like mine they will stop helping her and she will see it is not the 'family' that they want everyone to think it is.

Do Witness Teenagers take the Organization's Rules Seriously?

I never did, I am 21 I left when I was 17. Most of the things that I did wrong were direct results of getting in trouble for something else. For example, a lot of kids my age would be just hanging out, not doing anything wrong. and then someones parent would call and yell at them. I would say well.. if we are going to get into trouble we might as well do something to deserve it. (of course kissing someone or drinking was usually all we would do)

Baptized at 12 years of age
by Frequent_Fader_Miles ini recently had a very interesting conversation with an online friend.
she was baptized at 12 years old because her 15-year-old boyfriend was baptized, and she wanted to spend time with him.
pioneering was the only option, so she got baptized.

I was baptized 2 months before I turned 11.. I am now no longer a wittiness, but its so much crap, just because I know all the answers to their stupid questions, they think that I am ready to make a lifelong decision but I cannot date until I am mature enough to make a lifelong choice about who to marry, which to them is when I was 18. as if that makes any since.
