Yes, I wanted it to be the truth even though for many years I knew that it wasn't. But having to confront the fact that it wasn't the truth flipped my world upside down. I knew my life would never be the same. I actually took several days off work as I was so sick and cried for days. I begin to question everything...even my own existence.

Goodbye to JWD ... hello to JWN !
by Simon inas i announced some time ago, jwd as it is will not continue .... ... but .... it's clear from people's comments that they do like the site and many would like it or something else like it to continue.. one issue was the forum software that was self-developed and not really in a good state to hand-over to anyone but i've been working on that and can now reveal the first release of what will probably be called jwn (son of jwd):.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/.
it is still work-in-progress so not all features are enabled yet but it will allow you to browse the site in a similar way to this one and it is pointing at the same database (although because of the way the caching works, new posts made on this site won't appear immediately).

"Profess to be anointed"
by Iwonder17 inhave you ever noticed that whenever you are talking with a dub about another dub that partakes during the memorial, they always say..."well, they profess to be of the anointed".
it's almost as if they don't want anyone to be anointed.
if they believe in the anointed class, then why don't they 100% acknowledge everyone that says that they are anointed.

I was one of the those people that said folks "professed" only because there is not anyway for anyone to know for sure.

stick and stones may break my bones..but WORDS HURT FOREVER !
by caliber inon this site and elsewhere i have heard the expressions when hurt by words.... "grow up.. grow a thick skin ".
well it all seems easy enough to say, but we all have areas of high sensitivity.. physical, mental, emotional, social standing, education and race.
it is easy to find humor in things.

Caliber,
Very nice. The world would be so much kinder if everyone just attempted to apply these words.

there may not be any excuses left for ongoing complaints
"excuses"???!. The complaints of blacks americans are not excuses. So what, white americans let a few black people "make it". This country is far from the equality many in this land long to see. Do you know how many racial remarks are made around me everyday and I have "check" people on things that they say only to be told that I'm not really black and that I'm not like the rest of them and they are not talking about me?
Racism is real. Do you know how many resumes I see get tossed because applicants have common black american names. I have several black friends that have changed their names just to get a call back on an interview. They would ask me why they never heard back from potiental employers and I would honestly tell them its because of their name.
True story, very bright friend of mine, with an MBA, recently relocated from a chocolate city to a less chocolate city. She could not get an interview to save her life. I recommended that she change the name on her resume to Sarah and provide a different contact number. The ONLY thing she changed on her resume was her first name as her last name is neutral. She faxed her resume to the exact same places, ALL of them called within the hour for Sarah.
I have countless stories like this. As someone that receives resumes of potential employees, I always send the resume without the name when sharing them with peers. They have yet to stop being surprised when the candidates come for an interview and they are black or latino.
The issues of some will rarely be understood by those that never have a reason to walk in their shoes. I think this is one of them.
Wishing peace, harmony and prosperity to all,
Shop.
BTW, on a more important note many stores are having HUGE sales this week

Things rarely change over night. They take time. Obama being elected is a great step in the right direction
Exactly. Nothing was solved or resolved with the election of Obama to the presidency. Its simply a step in the right direction.
Affirmative Action does not need to go away. Affirmative Action has nothing to do with the qualifications of minorities (white women included) but ensures that minorities with the right qualifications are given a chance at jobs typically given to white males. The 'ol boys club is still very much alive.
Also, I do think black america played a HUUUUGE role in the election of Obama, not just with votes but with their evolution as a people. Through the progress that our country has made, many whites have had the opportunity to work with intelligent and brillant black americans who shockingly do not fit the stereotype often portrayed by the media. Many have come to learn that Obama is not a rarity in the black community and thus do not fear black america as they may have in the past.
And in regards to black americans expecting Obama to pay their bills and get them jobs, let me translate for the white masses. These are not literal statements. Black americans are extremely hopeful that Obama will do something (what that is remains to be seen) to alleviate some of the pressures and inequalities that you inherit with having extra melanin in your skin. Many understand the changes will not come overnight and are ready to do what they need to do to help Obama.
I'm very excited to see how this whole thing unfolds. For the FIRST time ever I feel like I belong in this country. I wish every white person lived 1 week as a black american, not as an asian, not a spanish-speaking person or any other minority but as a black american. Even black celebrities are denied entry into some elite boutiques simply because they do not cater to blacks regardless of how loaded you may be.
This country has a LONG way to go and we're just getting started. Hang on, its going to be a wild ride!

Are JWS really cheap or poor?
by heyfea inone thing i've noticed in all the congs.
let's say that a couple in the cong.
gets married and they choose to have a party at a caters.

Both. When JW family members got married most JW's gave a $20 bill in a nice card. Non-JW's gave $100, $250 and some $500 each. At bridal and baby showers, I've seen some of the cheapests gifts you could imagine.
I think its because most have never celebrated holidays and don't understand what to consider when giving gifts. Also, its their way of keeping you humble, their thinking is "Who do you think you are to receive $100 as a gift from each person?"
