Hair-raising Tale!

let's have some fun.did you find out some juicy gossip about a witness that you are just dying to blab?.

here's one from me.. i went to a hairdressing salon for the first time and the stylist was a camp male who never stopped chatting from the second he got his gesticulating paws on my scruffy mop.. my mum who is a devout jw was sitting reading a mag waiting for me.. next thing he's telling us about his gay male friend who is a bit down because he is having an affair with a jw.

to make things worse he is married with kids (the brother not the gay friend).. stifling my shock and trying not to look at my mum who is staring wildly and unseeingly at her mag i asked his name or address and although he didn't know the name he told us his street and district!.

perhaps it's just a case of ignore the newbie till she gets the hang of how it works cause hasn't she figured out yet that you have to be posting hilarious artwork/ exposing major doctrinal error/ slagging off FH or picking fights with other posters to fumble your way into the accepted gang?
Hey God forbid you should accuse me of attention seeking or whatever but when you first discover this place it's like eating chocolate-
delicious and addictive.
Just wanted my fix and childish as it is I love a bit of gossip esp when it reaffirms the hypocrasy of many of to coin a phrase God's people.
It's a bit like when you first try out the chat rooms on the net. You appear in the room and usually most people make an effort to say hi. Then they proceed to resume their friendly banter with eachother and hardly utter a word to you again. You find this goes on for a few days until your nickname becomes familiar and you finally break into conversations without feeling you should have said pardon-me-for-living first...
But of course that sort of excluding and ignoring and dare I say the word shunning would never happen in this wonderfully welcoming forum that seems to have become a place of recovery for ex-JW's who have experienced too much of that in their old lives..would it?

the following is a recent jw advertisement about their upcoming conventions.

i will quote them in italics and then make my own observations.. jehovah's witnesses office of public information.

The main thing I remember about the conventions was the amount of sleeping going on!!!
Bearing in mind the bum-numbing seating and cold and drizzle (UK of course) I don't know how we got comfy enough for snoozing but it was pretty much the done thing especially going through the Watchtower.
I had to laugh at the mention of drink. I can remember my pal's mum whipping out a small bottle of pop at regular intervals during the meetings and assemblies. I just thought she was excessively thirsty till eventually my friend admitted her mum's Sprite was neat vodka!!
And why do the uk assemblies always coincide with Wimbledon (or do they still) cause that's another irritation I remember.Mmmm I suppose it would have been inappropriate to ask them to slip in the odd comment on the men's finals?
But what were the most important concerns when eagerly looking forward to the conventions?
Er...How much can I afford to spend on new clothes/hairdos/bags/accessories because you cannot be seen in the same outfit twice?
Er...How often dare I get out of my seat during the program to try and catch the eye of that dishy brother a few rows behind?
Er...I wonder if someone's sorting out a night out after the program and I hope Brother Right turns up...
Not very spiritual really was I but I was single and desperate in those days and had a one-track mind!!

Seriously though I will be interested to hear about any new thoughts and how they are going to keep JW's stirred up about Armageddon without the Generation argument and in view of the subtle steering away from the 7000 year stuff .In fact their new policy of skating around all the important issues leaves me wondering what exactly they dare talk about anymore!!

Thanks for your post.
It's made me realise that I have become totally obsessive about JW's and I am giving more time and attention to the org now than I ever did when I was in it!
So in a way they have still got me.
I don't like that.
So I am off to get a life and look after my gorgeous hubby and take a course and get on with painting a watercolour just for the hell of it and find the real person who has no resemblance to a JW or an exJW but is just ME.
Ooh this is going to be pretty nerve-racking...

Malawi/Mexico issue

i'm sure everyone is familiar with the info on mexico and malawi brought out by ray franz in crisis of conscience regarding military service plus the equally shocking info about mexico and the cultural crap.. what i was hoping (to help me open my witness mum's eyes) was some real life experiences from mexican jw's at the time who can confirm the bribing went on with the full knowledge of the society or that they were going to the meetings with no prayers and bibles used etc.. what were they told?

how did they feel about the malawi jw's being raped and murdered for not buying a card?.

any info on either of the issues that elaborates on crisis of conscience would be appreciated.my mum is shocked about both of the them and i think she just can't let herself believe it!.

I dunno about y'all but when I was in 'the truth' I certainly didn't have time to sit at a computer reading ex-JW stuff all day.He must sleep and eat with his pc. Is it a lap-top? Does he take it to toilet with him (it might explain the crap)?

Here's one from me.

My mum who is a devout JW was sitting reading a mag waiting for me.
Next thing he's telling us about his gay male friend who is a bit down because he is having an affair with a JW. To make things worse he is married with kids (the brother not the gay friend).
Stifling my shock and trying not to look at my mum who is staring wildly and unseeingly at her mag I asked his name or address and although he didn't know the name he told us his street and district!
All I could think about was talk about leading a double life!!

Then the local council in my city published a news article about stolen fences. Precious tax payers money was being abused as every time a strip of rather expensive wooden fencing was put up on a local council estate that was being rejuvinated some one was stealing it!!
Of course we all blamed the local residents until some interesting info came to light. My brother happens to live on this estate and got into conversation with some dodgy characters from the neighbourhood. They claimed benefits but apparantly worked for a posh bloke from in the country.He paid them 'on the side' to steal fencing for him and told them if his wife asked any questions about who they were they had to just say they were gardeners.Yes you guessed it the guy with the handsome new wooden fence stretching the length and breadth of his business and home is a brother.
Then I got a job in an amusement arcade with a bingo and found myself in a dilemma.As a disfellowshipped person how should I treat the JW lady I used to go to the meetings with who was sitting happily playing bingo and then the fruit machines? Isn't she sort of intruding into my world rather than me in hers?

I could go on but I can't wait to hear other stories of JW hypocrites who still go to the meetings and have the cheek to shun me!!!

Funnily enough I've had my head buried in print-offs from the CD-rom on DF'ing all this afternoon.
I found the Elders manual (download it off the net) pretty enlightening as well .
For me I was surprised to see that you have 7 days from their decision to allow for appeal because one of the elders in my committee who had been quite kindly literally walked into me the next day and shunned me outright. Supposedly you are not officially DF'ed till after the 7 days so so much for that baloney.
Another fallacy about committees is that they have Jehovah's spirit. Years ago a friend of mine had an affair with a brother.She was treated like a scarlet woman by the elders helped along by the fact that the brother made her out to be to blame and made a big show of crying during his jc. He continued to chase her and laughed about his crocodile tears. In public he was mr Humble. Despite the aid of holy spirit the elders bought his act and years later he's a Ministerial Servant.( My friend felt humiliated and although she carried on in the truth for years she drifted away eventually.)

1975: Much ado about nothing?

many of the senior witnesses out there, i am sure will remember the spring/summer of 1975 and the amount of excitement that was in the air surrounding the anticipation of what the new year would bring.. i have no recollection of such events as i was still in short trousers and wearing a strange cap, but anyway.... fred franz, the vice president at the time gave many talks to 000's of people about how much everyone was looking forward to 1975 and the wonderful things it would bring... without making an explicit statement as such, but the implications were all there.

these talks actually began in about 1966. the anticipation grew too much for some people and many began to heed mr franz's advice about selling their property to live out the last months on the earth in the pioneer service.

he also encouraged the young people not to pursue a career but rather to be more active in "the truth".

yes it is very sad.
We had some lovely old people in our congregation.Two I particularly remember -they were outstandingly spiritual.
The old man had never married and seemed very lonely. His reason for living his 70 years without a companion? The society had advised them to put the good news first as Armageddon was so near!
His sister must have been unable to resist her urge to marry but I don't think the counsel was directed as strongly at the sisters. She had been married for about 50 years. But she had never had children and you can guess why. Again the society struck with their timely advice.
What a waste! These people died 20 years ago and the only legacy they left behind was the cash and property they left to the society.
Just two ordinary old people out of the thousands whose destiny was mis-shapen by the WTBS about a century ago.
And Armageddon is still round the corner...

I dunno how you feel as I'm new and haven't seen previous stuff but just wanna say keep your chin up!
I sobbed into my pillow every night after I got DF'd and had nightmares a bit like the ones I had as a kid after seeing those illustrations in the Paradise Lost book.
Then I just felt lost for about 6 years till I discovered the net and my eyes flew wide open (and my gob!!)
Since then I feel a mixture of anger, outrage and horror as I immerse myself in research .
You are one of the lucky ones..6 million are still in dupe-land!

for the majority of humans, certain events are surrounded by tradition and ritual.

marriage, the birth of children, entrance into adulthood, and death are all life-events which will be marked by most with a form of religious ceremony.

for the few who have left off affiliation with a religious organization, these events are marked differently - more by tradition than by mystic ritual.

Sorry to digress but this thread is skidding all over anyway so here goes..
Watched the box last night and some comment was made about a research project done about homosexuality where they found that homophobics exposed to gay pornographic scenes actually got bigger stiffies than gay participents.
Don't ask me why but reading You Knows remarks made me think of this.
Why does he associate in cyber-space with so-called apostates when the society that demands unquestioning obedience from it's members has made it clear he is breaking their rules by doing so?
Maybe he should stop and think about his obvious arousal by apostate ideas.
