does freedom of thought really obtain in this forum?
are those who have left god's organization and jehovah god himself actually now more open-minded and unbiased?
if those who espouse atheistic thoughts or those who believe every vile utterance spoken against jehovah's people think they are now speaking from some olympian perspective, i beg to differ.

on this website there seems to be so many lies and so little actual truth.
is this supposed to be a place to get answers or confuse the hell out of truth seekers?
well, for you seekers out there, if you find the truth on this site it'll be a major fluke.
oops sorry,
Thought I'd tripped into an interesting discussion of TRUTH.
Dinos and creation days?

last year on h20 much was discussed about whether jesus was a historical person.
it was brought out that no mention of jesus is ever made outside the works of christians (presuming that all christian historians are biased) except for the the writings of roman historian, flavius josephus.
and, even the brief mentioin of jesus in josephus works are challenged by some as being spurious addtions to some manuscripts.
Uncle Onion,
Sorry about e-mail - I am having trouble with sending. It's driving me mad! I'll mail you when I get it sorted.
BTW I am from Hull in Yorkshire.
I'll try and do some work on Saturday and we can swap notes.

Seeker,
My initial reaction to your reply to me was a typical British saying :'if the cap fits wear it'
BUT
I actually wasn't referring to you personally so I am puzzled at your offended reaction.
As a JW for 20 years I felt like I had a bright multicoloured t-shirt on permanently which read I AM A CRACKPOT!!!I hated being treated like a fool for believing what I believed.
So I find it demoralising when I see forum members taking the P out of anyone expressing interest in topics a bit different.
I understand where you are coming from regarding lurking JW's but I am sure they are more likely to be shocked at the scornful attitude of posters or by threads on bad language or racism.
Why can't we tolerate eachothers differing beliefs?
Some on this board are atheists and make sure we all know it. That's fine by me. I believe in God and that's my choice. Maybe JW's lurking will be turned off by atheists but maybe they might secretly feel the same. Who knows?
It doesn't matter because freedom of speech is encouraged in here and Simon does not impose censorship. We have a great place to chew the fat. I love the place.
Hope that clarifies it, Seeker. Nothing personal.

Hi SL
Well it's nearly 2am so I need to go to bed and cuddle hubby so I didn't give it the attention I normally would.
I have a folder in my Favourites i've called 'weird 'n' wonderful' for all this sort of mind-blowing stuff including David Icke's site. Icke got slagged off in here the other day but there is some interesting stuff in his site such as religious fraud, mind control etc.
Keep 'em coming lol...

SF,
Hey despite the sneers of the super intellectual self-appointed 'betters' in this forum I am not put off from confessing an interest in these subjects myself.
I actually choose to believe what I want and read what I want and post what I want.
There's a few similar threads going on at the moment and the same old people are curling their lips as usual.
Keep posting your 'weird' stuff and I'll keep an eye out for it and look without peeing on your bonfire.

just popped in and was pleased to see a thread on a subject I am currently researching.
Probably not new to some but maybe of interest to some newbies is this web site that delves into the Jesus story and the long list of pre-Jesus figures with remarkable similarities in their stories:

it is said by jws that 'the truth' never leaves you.
even when you have broken free, you will still be haunted by it, watching the news just in case they were right.
have any of you had these feelings?
Hi Individual,
I used to have a recurring nightmare where I was at work in a supermarket warehouse and pallets of baked beans came tumbling down on me at Armageddon. It was a combination of my end of the world fears and the real incident of a young man who was crushed to death by a pallet of goods where I worked.
The dream was VERY frightening.
Eventually I just got on with it and I suppose I believed I would one day go back to the truth. Then a couple of years ago after been out for 8 years I was introduced to information my brother had found on the internet.6 months ago I went on-line myself and I have never looked back.
Realising that it was all nonsense and in fact religion itself is nonsense and just a method of control was a great moment of liberty! I have made the decision that although I do not give God a name I do believe in Him and know He is there for us whatever mistakes we make. I feel sad I missed out on any contact with Him for 9 years because the WT society convinced me I was not worthy.
Yes it does cause psychological problems but human beings are capable of bouncing back and taking control of their lives and I feel I have done that at last and hope others who are struggling can find the way to do likewise.
It feels so good to be free doesn't it?

Thanks for sharing your story with us.
I have read about your situation with your wife. Sounds pretty bad and stressful!
You have realised that the organisation is fatally flawed and it's obvious you are preparing yourself to walk away. You need to take it slowly. It can be pretty scary to imagine how other witnesses will react when they find out and label you an apostate. Have you any relatives or friends outside the JW's who can support you?
What is so hard for you is the sense that you will lose everything -your religion, your friends, and your marriage.
This is going to be tough so you need to try and build a support network for yourself while you gradually detach yourself from the org. Of course you have this forum which is a great place to get things off your chest. You should also try to connect with non-JW's and make new friends. You'll be surprised how nice some of those worldly people can be lol.
As for your wife. You seem to have decided that maybe it is only the religion that binds you together anyway. This may be the case but try not to be hasty. Remember she is probably feeling really scared by your doubts and her reaction is typical of a witness who has been taught to view anyone not in agreement with the org. as an enemy of God. Even if you feel like a hypocrite you could take a slowly-slowly approach and for now keep your new findings to yourself until you have sorted out what you really want especially regarding your wife.
Give YOURSELF time.Plan your exit. It's up to you if you want to go out in a blaze of glory and be DF'd or fade out over a long time to avoid losing access to family members. One thing for sure, you will not be condemned by people in here. They know the pros and cons of both ways and will support you regardless.
Hope you can get through this with as little pain as possible.

well in an attempt to question and learn more about the bible as was suggested to me by various people, i attended church with a friend.
afterwards i spoke with the preacher, and asked him about some of the things i had learned from the jw.
he quickly disregarded what i told him and pointed out a few scriptures, i showed him more that backed up what i had been taught.
Tattoo,
When people leave the JW's for whatever reason some are turned off religion altogether, some hang on to WT beliefs (until they discover the internet usually lol) and others feverishly seek to find the real truth.
My opinion on the matter is you cannot find something that does not exist.
As soon as you realise no person or book or organisation or religion can possibly give you the answers to life's burning questions -only THEIR concept of truth -then you can get on with your life and let all the stupid people masquerading as great intellectuals squabble it out between them.
