"We'll be over the day after"

i don't know how others are but in my family, my grandma makes a turkey for thanksgiving, and either turkey, pot roast or ham for christmas.

all of us non-jw's go over to celebrate and enjoy the time with the family, now the jw's in the family always say, we'll be over the day after, they eat the same turkey we did for thanksgiving, eat the same food, pies, etc.

we did but just the next day?

I am cooking a great big turkey and a ham for a thanksgiving dinner we are co-hosting with my BFF. I am proudly displaying the turkey day arts and crafts my children have brought home from school this week. I had a lovely conversation with my 7 year old about what he is thankful for.

I am not stressing having a turkey dinner with my worldly friends. I am not explaining to my 7 year old why I won't hang the picture of turkey with the caption "Eat Ham" in my fridge for everyone to see. I am not crying myself to sleep from loneliness because no one from my family sees fit to call or write.

Unique regional foods

all of this talk about bojangles chicken has got me in the mood for a food related topic, so here it is.. .

is there any food dishes or style of cooking that is unique to your region?.

Were The Elderly & Infirm Truly Given Assistance In Your Hall?

our congregation had a number of elderly ones who regularly complained that no one ever helped them.

since the elders didn't really want to be responsible for them, they decreed that the family should help out first.

fair enough.

I have to admit, my MIL's congregation is really good at taking care of the older and infirm ones. If one is sick, there is a list of sister who cook meals. A couple of them who don't/can't cook deliver the meals. Trips to the KH and the doctors are taken care of. They have several footstools at the back of the hall for the sister to use at their seats to ease their legs.

Don't get wrong, they are not the norm.
