I think the hokier stories come from my neck of the woods. And Africa. Basically they consist of calamities befalling everyone except the JW's. As in this one story told from the platform of a bus with JW's going to an assembly. A huge rock fell on top of it and killed all the Worldlys but the Jw's came out unharmed. I believe there are many stories about run ins with terrorists, guerillas, and the usual delincuents where the witnesses have come out unscathed thanks to their neutrality...

Unexplained Mormon "miracles"...Unexplained JW "miracles"
by FormerMormon inok... lets get the ribbing aside.
our mormon "miracles" are more unexplainable than yours.... one of the many tools used by the morg to keep it's members active is the use of faith promoting stories involving apparent miracles... or the unexplainable.
there are unexplainable stories even in my own family.

JWs dont celebrate holidays or birthdays
by Elisabeta inor participate in numerous other "worldly" things but they do seem to be ok with committing adultery... .
maybe for the sole purpose of getting out of a marraige, who knows... i didn't think i was ever that bad, my kids say while there were moments that i was bad - he always "one upped me" - made my behavior justified.. in any case i am sure everyone here knows that jw's are a religious group of people that knock on your doors many days.
mostly on the weekends when your trying to sleep in or participate in some "indoor sports", lol... .

I'm sure you'll find many women on this forum who have had a similar experience. Yes adultery is common among witnesses although many will probably never find out thanks to the counseling of the brothers to forgive and forget. I also had a husband who cheated on me. The best advice I can give you (seeing as how I've been in your shoes) is accept the fact, learn and move on. Your children and you deserve so much better.

Justification of Violent Films
by inkling inthe recent post about "the passion of the christ" has gotten me thinkingabout violence in film in general, and i would very much like a fewperspectives on something... last year, after finally shedding the reflexive guilt that was instilledin me (by my wt steeping) towards violent stories, i finally saw a few iconic films, including a few from quentin tarantino.
(including reservoir dogs) now tarantino is know for his unflinching depiction of stylized violence.
(exactly the sort of thing that is specifically condemned by the wt) some film makers have this knack for making cruelty, death, and violence a odd spectacle of dark beauty.

I have watched almost all Quentin Tarantino's films and I did find the degree of violence disturbing. That was probably the point. In films such a Schindlers List there is a purpose to the film. It depicts something that actually happened. Sin City was so void of any type of plot and seriously just glorified violence. I don't understand the purpose of those types of movies. I remember this independent film titles Happy about a pedophile. I obviously could not stomache the whole thing. Yet it was critically acclaimed. I just kept on thinking how seriously sick our society must be to even make a film like that.
There is a popular show here that is extremely violent. It's about this gang that takes justice into their own hands. Needless to say there has been an increase of violence and gangs among youuth 13/18..Mainly the demographic group that watches the show...The show is on at 9pm supposedly to limit access to smaller children which unfortunately doesn't happen thanks to slacking parents....So do I believe there is a direct link with violent behavior? I sure do!! Definitely in the formative years..Maybe as an adult not as much but there is definitely a desensitation process going on.
I don't watch as violent films now. I will watch a movie with a story that may have some violence in the film but not a whole movie dedicated to how a human can be as concievably cruel to another like in Reservoir Dogs..You know putting it to cool music doesn't make it any easier for me to digest.

I've pretty much lost hppe in my family ever getting out. They will never see it as a cult or that they are trapped. They see the witnesses as their reason to keep on living. Every part of their life is decided by what the organization has to say....They are balanced in JW standards.(their kids are going to college, they take vacations and miss the meetings etc watch R movies..LOL...But I know they will never leave. Such a sad thing really....

Tommorrow's Daily Text - this made me so mad!!!
by breakingfree inwell lets get off to a good start for the year by using jesus to justify staying with your abusive husband:.
thursday, january 3. when [jesus] was being reviled, he did not go reviling in return.
when he was suffering, he did not go threatening.-1 pet.

How sad it is that many wives in an abusive relationship will wait forever for their husbands to change and wake up seeing their christainly example......meanwhile exposing their families to traumas that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. I know one sister whose husband was removed as an elder and the df'ed for abusive behavior towards her. And then they publicly reproved her for not going to the elders about it sooner...She did go several times but always back down at the last minute because she would get SCARED.......What the hell is wrong with these people???????????

JW's and Internet. Wikipedia?
by Burger Time injh posted a thread about how wikipedia clearly shows how goofy the doctrine of jw's has been in changing over the years.
so it makes me wonder could wikipedia be the driving force in the no "independent" study?
i know that my whole family uses wikipedia often and use it as a respected source when researching things.

Yes I would say wikipedia is pretty safe and neutral turf for witnesses. On the other hand many are so delusional that anything they read that is negative about the organization is obviously slander.....

tnangel73- I am fully aware at how witnesses generalize all worldly people. It's something that really bothers me as well. But having come out of an organization that displays that type of behavior, why would i imitate it once out?
And the bumch of witnesses who do leave good tips wasn't to say all of them do it, just that it depends on the person..Not their religion. There are cheap tacky people in all walks of life. Religious, non religious etc...

Self esteem ....
by Frequent_Fader_Miles indoes it play a role in choosing one's partner or significant other?
.
do you believe that someone with low (or high) self esteem would deliberately choose someone in that very category because it made them feel more comfortable?.
-
mentalclearness
Yes I think if you have low self esteem you subconsciously look for someone who you feel you are deserving of. Hence ususally someone with low self esteem as well. Or doesn't have the qualities that you probably would feel you deserved if you had high self esteem. So you end up with losers, addicts, cheaters, or men who don't like working....just to mention a few character traits.....

First let me say that someone leaving religious literature as a tip is just plain tacky and cheap. I was also a waitress for a bit and I know the importance of those tips...
On the other hand, would it be possible on this forum to stop generalizing the whole JW organization for what one person did??? I mean that is as bad as saying all Jews are meisers...or all Americans are ignorant.....or all blacks are criminals...C'mon people....I know for a fact a bunch of witnesses that leave great tips....Just depends on the person...

Assembly Resolutions
by DT ineven when i was a believing jw, i began to really dislike those fake assembly resolutions.
my biggest complaint was that we weren't given any time to think about them before we were called on to agree.
i thought they were pretty meaningless and stopped responding to them.
