i would say the best thing is when one has just started studying and coming to meetings for the first time they are treated like gold.
but things really start to detiroriate quickly from there.
the worst thing is the control.
I’d say the best thing about being a JW was the Hoagie subs at the conventions and the worst thing about being a JW was everything else. And now that they don’t serve hoagies anymore, well, is there really any reason for anyone to be a JW?
bill clinton on bush uranium line: 'everybody makes mistakes' former president accepts explanation on state of the union
wednesday, july 23, 2003 posted: 1:31 pm edt (1731 gmt).
washington (cnn) -- the white house, attacked by critics for a now-retracted line about iraq seeking uranium from africa in president bush's state of the union address, has gotten some surprising support from former president clinton.. "i thought the white house did the right thing in just saying 'we probably shouldn't have said that,' " clinton told cnn's larry king in a phone interview tuesday evening.
I’m not sure who really is smarter, Bill Clinton or George Bush. Really, it’s a tough call. They are both just so absolutely brilliant, each in their own way, each getting what they want and each having the ability to screw people left and right without them ever knowing it. On the one hand you have the most highly educated president in our nations history that has convinced his enemies that he just somehow bumbled his way into the position he is in, that he is not at all politically savvy, and that he has no ability to strategize. Yet somehow this self-made millionaire, Yale graduate, Harvard MBA; oh excuse me, I meant to say idiot with an odd speech impediment. Somehow this jerk is able to push through just about every one of his most wanted initiatives ostensibly without the ability of his political opponents to stop him. Just dumb luck I guess, NOT!
Then we have a former president that makes what appears to be a most magnanimous gesture to a fellow member of the presidents club, yet hardly anyone notices that he just diverted attention from the fact that he is guilty of exactly the same supposed offences of the poor soul he just rescued, even more so. But wait, it gets better. Not only does he head off any possible examination of his own record on WMDs, and in particular the nuke issue, but also he now has effectively taken away the only issue the democrats were making any headway with.
Now why did he do that??? We were beating Bush up pretty good with this; his poll numbers were dropping and everything, so lament the democrats. Is not this former president also a democrat? The answer is yes and no. Yes he is a democrat, but that is not what he is about. He is the center of his universe, and his party is secondary to who he is, it always has been that way, and I suspect it always will be. What people fail to appreciate about Clinton is that it’s all about Bill. There is nothing more important to Mr. Clinton then the reacquisition of his presidency and his former residency at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, even if it means that he obtains it by using his wife as a surrogate. Even if it means making sure that only weak democrats run against Bush. Even if it means sandbagging the fund raising efforts of some of these people, as he has done. Mr. Clinton has worked behind the scenes and he has shaped the playing field of democratic hopefuls just as he wants it. If it means helping Bush as his poll numbers start to slide, he will do it, in fact he just did. He is setting things up for his wife’s presidency even at the expense of his party losing the next election, but so few can see this. In fact you can’t see it at all if you don’t understand Bill, a genuinely brilliant man.

my wife brought home the "learn from the great teacher" thingy and i observed some things about the cover.. 1) jesus and the children on the cover have tan skin.
'bout time!.
2) for a 31 year old and a perfect man, jesus has some serious "crows feet" going on.
Yes Jesus seems to look a little better these days. I recall that at one time he was not even allowed to have a beard (then they got new light). I think they are almost there; now they just need to get over their vampire-like reaction to a cross and we could have one fine looking dead JC. We await the next new light with baited breath.

You know Yeru, these people are like the Borg, they hope that most people will just be lazy and not research what they have said in the past on a given issue. And just like the Borg, their own words come back to bite them in the ass, they are their own worst enemy. Chances are they will never be challenged on this. Most likely the mainstream press will never call these guys on this due to the fact that they seem to connect with each other ideologically. In that sense the mainstream press and the left-leaning folks seem share a common ground. BTW, that’s not a criticism, just an observation.
I do have a fear however, and that is that this so-called idiot Bush is letting these guys politically hang themselves (once again) and then like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat, the WMDs will make a sudden appearance at a most inopportune time, like maybe just before the election cycle. Would that dumb-as-a-stump Harvard MBA Bush really do that? I just don’t know.
My fear is that with all these democrats jumping on the bash Bush because we were deceived bandwagon, I’m afraid the shock and awe of such a disclosure proving Bush once again correct could mortality wound the Democratic party. As much as it would be fun to see this from an entertainment perspective, I really don’t want to see that happen. I think we are much better off with a balance of terror, I mean power, each party keeping an eye on the other. You can’t get that balance when just one party dominates. Just my thoughts.
PS : Jonnadandy, I quoted democrats because all these people are now questioning the honesty of Bush about WMDs when they themselves said many of the same things Bush said. I am just pointing out their hypocrisy. How easily they forget, (and hope that you forget) all that they said. Remember every one of them were convinced of these things and publicly stated such. I just call a spade a spade and this time they just happen to be democrats. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, phony is as phony does.

Wow Reporter thanks for opening our eyes to all the lies that Bush and his friends have been saying about WMDs. Apparently this conspiracy to deceive people about WMDs is more wide spread then most people realize.
Here are some quotes from some people that used to tell those very same lies that Bush and friends are now telling us.
“Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime…He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction…So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real…” –Sen. Kerry (D, MA) Jan. 23,2003
“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction” -Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL) Dec. 8, 2002
We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction” – Sen. Ted Kennedy (D,MA) Sept 27, 2002
“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country” Al Gore, Sept 23, 2002
“The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retained some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capability. Intelligence reports also indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons…” –Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002
“We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandates of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them” -Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002
“ There is no doubt that… Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to refine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies” –Letter to President Bush, signed by Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and other, Dec. 5, 2001.
Thank goodness most of these good people quoted above are no longer under the mind control of Bush who I guess must have made them say all these things against their will. Well at least now they have come back to their senses and are at last telling the truth, the truth being that there never were any weapons, and that Bush made the whole thing up, etc. etc. etc.
Oh one quick question for these nice folks quoted above… how do you spell hypocrisy?

yesterday i got back from a blues festival and was feeling pretty good, pretty good that is until i decided to read a little tract that some people were handing out to the joyful crowd.
i saw the cross on the cover page with the phrase god loves you so i knew it was a religious tract of some kind before i stuck it into my pocket, but it wasnt until i got home and really looked at it that i noticed just how utterly offensive this tract really is.
hear is a scan of the inside page:
Devon,
I believe they are a Pentecostal type group. I guess they are your basic born again whatever.

The first tip off that something is wrong is found the opening line “Please do not resent us for giving you this tract.”
Why does a religious tract need a disclaimer, why does it need a warning label?
Next they say that they love my soul? Just my soul? What about the rest of me?
And then comes the bad news… If you’re not with us pal, you burn. Oh boy, just what I need, death threats, or more precisely, eternal torture threats! The back of the track is stamped with the name and address of the church associated with this uplifting message, just in case you wanted to join. Oh yes the church just happens to be “Assembly Of God”, and it's printed by the "Fellowship Tract League"
You know it’s not that I don’t appreciate that they love my soul and all, but somehow that message of you better be on our team or else seems rather reminiscent of a group that I really would like to forget about. I think I’m leaning more towards taking my chances on burning rather then joining at this time.
You know it’s kind of sad, sick, and funny at the same time when I think about it. The Blues festival made me feel happy and the Good News contained in this little tract gave me the blues.
who has heard some really far out, off the wall, el whacko beliefs from jws over the years??.
here's an example....yesterday a couple of jehopeless witlesses told me that riding my bicycle was the doings of the devil because, since a bicycle can't stand up by itself, it's impossible to ride one without the devil holding you up.
does anybody know what bible verse they use to support this?
You think JWs have some strange beliefs do you?
I guess you would find it hard to believe that daemons can live in very small items procured at garage sales. Maybe you find the suggestion that recipients of heart transplants unknowingly receive the personality of the deceased donor just a bit nutty. Does it not make perfect sense to everyone that annoying and disease spreading insects such as the common housefly and mosquito are creations not of God but of the devil? And just who can argue with the soundness of avoiding aluminum knowing as we do from the pages of the Watchtower that it can cause insanity and a host of other problems? And let us not forget about the wise counsel of refusing emergency blood transfusions for both adults and children alike. As you well know God is not pleased when lives are saved using blood products that have not been sufficiently broken down into smaller components.
IMHO, considering some of the truly strange and even death-dealing beliefs JWs have had over the years, a little satanic bicycle-balancing act is really not that out of the ordinary. But then again in fairness, I am sure this is not a JW belief. To me it sounds like some individual nutcase with nothing better to type.
