Why did David bring Golaith's head to Jerusalem?

i samuel 17:54 - "and david took the head of the philistine and brought it to jerusalem".

why did david do this, especially when the city of jerusalem was over 20 miles away and also under jebusite control at the time?.

I thought the bringing of the head to what would become Jerusalem was in preparation to fufill the curse made in the garden of Eden. The whole Genesis 3:15 and 16 'I will put enmity between you and the woman', 'your offspring and her offspring' and 'he will crush your head and you will bruise his heel.'

The serpent or devil's seed would be the giants from the nephilim, which Goliath of Gath would have been a descendant. David, or God's seed, beheads Goliath and buries the head in a hill outside of Jerusalem. Jesus is crucified on a hill outside of Jerusalem known as 'skull place' or Golgotha (is that from Goliath of Gath? I dunno) or 'bruises' him. Meanwhile, his blood is dripping onto the skull of the seed of Satan or 'crushing' his skull.

This kind of stuff makes my head hurt, though, because I thought the Neph-meisters were killed off in the flood. Maybe the Neph were really good swimmers.

Two cats.

One screams a meow whenever anyone walks by her food bowl, even if it's totally full.

Cat number two runs away whenever I open a new trashbag, but if I leave a plastic shopping bag on the floor, she tries to eat it.

I know it's off the topic, but I also have three dogs and three of those stainless steel bowls in which to feed them. Two of the dogs eat just fine out of the bowls, but if the third dog smells that either of the other two dogs have eaten out of the bowl set aside for him, he won't eat unless I dump the food onto the floor.

The Fed has always printed money, sort of. They tell the Treasury Dept. how much to print and in what denominations. If you take a look at the folding money in your wallet it's stamped with 'Federal Reserve note' on the front.

I believe what you meant is that Kennedy was going to authorize the Treasury dept. to print it's own money bypassing the Fed, which would keep the bigger banks from earning interest on the money 'loaned' to the Treasury dept.

people are driving for miles to the few shops that have opened....many pioneers leave there own congregation territory to buy some 1 hour drive away....i took a box to my witness work mates...they acted like i was giving them gold!

poor witnesses.

they do taste excellent fresh....coffee shops like "starbucks" never took off here....were not big on coffee.

I remember when KK came to Denver for the first time. There were people who lined up for hours to get at them. This particular franchise had a drive-thru and the police had to be brought in for traffic control. It was nuts! I had asked a co-worker who was brought up in another state that had KK's what was the big deal. She went into a monologue extolling the virtues of the warm kk that just went on and on. I hadn't seen such wide-eyed mania for a product in Denver since the Beanie Baby craze.

I finally got my fingers on one about three weeks after they had been in town. It tasted to me like warm, sugar-frosted lard. Yuck.

Here in Oklahoma there is a KK franchise I pass by quite often and it never seems to have much business. I have noticed in my business travels around the state that there are two or three named donut franchises (donut king, daylight donuts) that can be found in almost every small town.

I have a feeling there is some smart cookie marketing person out there that points investors to franchises like KK and Sonic and tells them not to miss out on the 'big money' that could be made. Franchises FTW!

Some observations and questions about the NWT

i don't know whether anyone here has encountered a program called e-sword (with the hyphen in it like that).

it is bible study software that lets you install literally dozens of different translations of the bible to compare, plus dictionaries, maps, and commentaries (including historic commentaries like the ones ray franz describes in coc).

you can install both modern and historic translations, plus versions of the original greek and hebrew manuscripts as well as the latin vulgate and greek septuagint translations.

Why would the Society translate the word this way, obviously in imitation of the Vulgate (which they condemn), when copies of the original Hebrew text are readily available at any Christian or Jewish book store (and almost certainly in the Bethel libraries)? My guess is that they just based their "translation" on a translation that relied on the Vulgate without realizing that doing so caused them to show their hand. The problem is that they were obviously just comparing and revising earlier English translations rather than making a new translation based on the oldest manuscripts available, while claiming to be producing something totally new and based only on the oldest manuscripts.

Excellent summation, hence the reasoning behind the, 'not going beyond the things taught' warning.

(I could write essays on why Solomon almost certainly wasn't the author of Ecclesiastes, nor were any of the Gospels likely written by their namesakes.)

looking through hebrew literature, the numbers four hundred thousand myriads and four thousand myriads appears.

what is the exact size of a hebrew myriad?

I, much like the translators of the NWT, can't speak or write ancient Hebrew so I'm not much help to you on your question. I did think that myriad is from the Greek and meant ten thousand as in myriameter=10,000 meters. If it's the same it would be four billion. But, then, it's all Greek to me.
