should a faithfull jw have anything to do with candles therefore?
Count me among those who have never run across a JW with a candle aversion (hmmm...candle aversion therapy anyone?). I can't imagine how anyone would automatically equate candles with devil worship or summoning demons.
lovsinner - I do have to agree with your dad on the incense thing. It's not that I have any superstitious notions about it, I just can't stand the smell of it. I've hated it for as long as I can remember. But hey, I'm weird! LOL!

jerry falwell recently outed tinky winky, from the television show, "teletubbies", because, falwell pronounced, "the character is clearly a fount of gayness.
he is purple, the gay color, he has an antenna shaped like a triangle, the gay symbol, and he carries a purse, something all gay people do.
Do you remember all of the fuss about a year or so ago when Minute Maid (I think) produced the orange juice commercial where after drinking OJ, Bluto and Popeye were best of friends?
The Daily Show on Comedy Central had a field day with that one after several groups insisted that this was a part of a conspiracy to push the homosexual agenda on children. Oh, brother!

we all grew up in the same environnment.
for as long as i can remember that environnment included the idea that men were not just fathers but also leaders.
they took the lead, women followed.
Men can be VERY emotional! They can fly off on some tirade or down right fits of anger causing the rest of the family to run for cover! Some men will break out in a fight at a local bar, they will punch one another, stab one another, kill one another! Also when playing sports male players many times exhibit uncontrolled anger. Emotion, emotion running wild!
One thing that I think you need to realize here is that for the most part, these are the only emotions that it is acceptable for men to have. Just as society has forced men to think of women as being the more emotional of the sexes, we have been forced into being the testosterone fueled beasts that you mentioned above.
I've been known to cry at a good movie or when I hear a song that touches me deeply, but for the most part it's just simply not acceptable for me to admit to that...and that's truly a shame. Sure, I can be just as egotistical and arrogant as the next guy but more often than not, I'm a blend of the two. At least I'd like to think so. LOL!

my oldest daughter, beth, had her second episode yesterday and i'm now officially worried and am looking for someone in the medical community or someone who recognizes these symptoms.. her very first seizure was a febrile seizure, due to a high temp when she was a year old.
i doubt this has anything to do with the present stuff.. a few months ago, she fainted at work and seizured on the stairs, was taken by ambulance to the er.
she came home looking beat up from banging her head on the stairs, with a mild concussion.. yesterday, when she went to get on the bus, she felt it coming on again, and while she was able to somehow ward of the 'seizure', she blacked out before she could pay her fare.

just a question that occurred to me.
how often do you post here?.
let me tell you about my posting habits to get the ball rolling.. i never post during the morning (equivalant to midnight-3am in america), purely because i a) have to get to work, busy busy, and b) i am not terribly lucid before my 3rd cup of coffee .
I don't really have any posting habits yet...when I find something that really moves me to respond I just go for it.
Having said that, I'm not incredibly active on the boards. I read them almost constantly, though: before work, during my morning and afternoon breaks, and when I get home in the evenings. I think I somehow lack the confidence to just up and post any old thing, so I'll deliberate over it and eventually talk myself out of posting completely.

i'm very new on here--just "born yesterday", as a matter of fact, but am finding out how wonderful it is to be able to be free to express thoughts and opinions, share ideas, give comfort, and find hope, within "these walls".. i'm going to ask a question, and that is, how long did it take any of you souls out there to find your true self, after leaving jw's?
i was very young when i was first introduced to the studies of jw's.

I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated you sharing your story with us. I would say that I enjoyed reading it, but somehow that just doesn't feel like the right thing to say in a situation like this.
Though our circumstances are vastly different, I still can relate to and sympathize with what you have gone through. Even though I have been out for almost ten years now, I still feel as if I've yet to discover myself and find out who I really am. I do feel, though, that each day brings me a bit closer than the day before.
This board has been a great source of comfort to me over the past fifteen months or so and though I am not an incredibly active participant, I find that the opinions and comments made by the others has helped me out immensely on more than one occasion.
Welcome to the board! I look forward to reading many more posts from you in the future.
