Scary stats, I have noticed here, alot of very fat kids, obese kids. I have to stop and wonder what the heck their parents are thinking? This is exactly why I give my kids fruit and veggies for snacks, buy whole wheat pasta and bread.. MacDonald's should be a once in a while treat. Although I got to admit, just discovered, Banaffi Pie, yum!

UNDENIABLE LOGIC. Some cherish it while others dismiss it. Which are you?
by nicolaou inthere are so many ways to get into this topic; homeopathy, astrology, feng shui, alien abductions, seances and so on ad nauseum but let's pick a simple one - mathematics.
do you accept the undeniable logic that 1+1 must always equal 2?.
i cannot conceive of a situation where 1+1=3 but there was a time when i did!

Perhaps not all faith defies logic, (in which case is it really faith at all?) but the faith that contradicts proven, common-sense, undeniable logic surely needs to be respectfully retired.
Nic'
Logic is relative. Proven? Exactly what has been proven that makes faith defy logic?

Is it ok to shun Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Missanna inlet me explain myself... for instance when your friends and family keep changing their minds... like my sister she didn't want to talk to me, then we started talking again and now she is back to shunning me.
same with my once best friend we were fine with each other's beliefs then one night she tells me in order to have god's favor she has to shun me.
now she's talking to me again.

I say, tit for tat. They wanna shun you, why should you "turn the other cheek" and post a kick me sign on your hiney? If they can't be consistent and accept you, love you for who you are, they aren't worthy of your love and respect in return. Not saying to tell them off, just I wouldnt suggest making yourself too available for their emotional abuse either. They are trying to punish you by withholding their love after all.

by Hortensia ini am watching "independence day" which is one of my favorite movies - i watch it every time it comes on television.
i also really like "beetlejuice," "the american president," and several others that i admit are cheesy but a great deal of fun.

As a JW were you ever counseled about clothes you wore, or lack thereof ?
by flipper inthought this could get interesting discussing experiences.
i for one was trying to reach out for ministerial servant again in the early 90's , had been one before, and was assigned to carry the microphones one meeting.
had an elder call me in the back room and say , " brother flipper, i noticed looking down towards your shoes that you are wearing white socks today.

Yup I was counselled for wearing a top too low cut, or a skirt too high (meaning at the kneecap, shocking huh?), etc. Usually it was because some elder's wife was ticked her husband couldn't control his eyeballs. I know other "sisters" who got counselled for the same thing many times. More often though, seemed it was more gossip among the congregation than outright haul you in the back room stuff. I will never wear another ankle length skirt ever!

Hugs!
Most of us raised in the borg, have been in your shoes at least once. No prom pics, no grad pics, I didnt' even go to my graduation because they were holding it at a theatre and were playing the national anthem, considering I would have had to sit down in the front row in front of half my town, I decided to forgo it. Explaining to people can be very difficult, sometimes its easier to fake it as one poster said. Your photo albums were destroyed in a fire? (I know its lieing but telling the truth might be more than one can handle at the time)
When stuff like that gets me down I really try hard to remember the upside, I look hard and there is one, always. I love Xmas in a way most people who have always had it don't. I hear people complaining about it every year, meanwhile to me, its the absolute best thing ever. I get to watch my kids dress up for halloween and go trick or treating. I get up on a Sunday morning and make my kids breakfast and thank god I am not forced into attending some meeting that makes me want to fall asleep.
I try to remind myself that although these things will come up and they do suck, the alternative is much worse. I could still be ones of the masses oblivious to life outside the borg.
