  Has anyone found dating as an EX JW difficult?

  just curious as to what difficulties have faced people dating as an ex jw.

  myself, i have noticed the glazed over look in a guy's eyes when you try to explain why your family doesn't celebrate the holidays with you etc.

  new to this board, so if this has been well covered before, please forgive me.

  Dating outside the Jdub thing is soooooo hard.

  I started dating a guy just as i was thinking of leaving the Jdubs, he could not understand why a grown woman would keep a normal healthy relationship secret from her family. This led to him thinking that I was secretive about other stuff and raised issues of trust. He did have a point, as I didn't want to tell him that I'd gone door knocking so sometimes lied and he'd later find out I wasn't doing what I said I'd been doing...needless to say the relationship ended.

  As Jdub teens we were never prepaired for dating. As Jdub you didn't have to ask too many questions as you'd all been brainwashed to think the same way. So outside its so much more complicated...good luck is all I say. I think I'll be single for a very long time to come...

  As a JW were you ever counseled about clothes you wore, or lack thereof ?

  thought this could get interesting discussing experiences.

  i for one was trying to reach out for ministerial servant again in the early 90's , had been one before, and was assigned to carry the microphones one meeting.

  had an elder call me in the back room and say , " brother flipper, i noticed looking down towards your shoes that you are wearing white socks today.

  Dragonlady - Ditto. I remember once I got counselled on wearing a sleeveless dress on the platform, before i walked up a sister tried to get me to put on her cardigan in from of teh whole Kh I just said no thanks. It was a hot summers day for god sakes...there just arms! not my fault if teh bros couldn't handle it.

  MrsJones - you make me laugh.

  Roselee, you really should be using your time in personal study, instead of coming on this site to preach at us. Happydad did not say that all JW's will eventually become alcoholics, but merely that being in that religion did not help. A religion where you are not really allowed to be express your true feelings, and depression is met with a bible and more study instead of the real clinical help needed. Why don't you go discuss this with your congregation elders...oh wait, you can't cos you ain't even suposed to be on here. You know what they say "if you can't stand the heat, get out the kitchen" If what is said here offends you so much why are you not spending you time chatting with like minded brainwashed idividuals.

  I am a new fader - Not been since April, although did do half a day at the convention. I have no intention of going back to that hole. The fact that I have tried to discuss this latest scandel with the JW's i work with and am just getting "its so bad that he claimed to be a JW" replies is pissing me right off. No one is willing to be honest about the feelings about the dirt paedo, and I don't want anything to do with an organisation that allows children to be in such danger on a regular basis.

  The Jdubs have seen the last of me....au revior!

  The cong teh monster now attends is just up the road from me, I feel like turning up on Sunday to see if he's there!!!
  
  I work with two JW's and neithe rof thm know I no longer go to teh kingdumb hall, and one of them just said "hav eyou heard about that man" I replied "he's still not disfellowshipped" an dshe was all "his sister is bad mouthing him all over the radio, I think she is d'd anyway and is just angry, so she really shouldn't be on the radio when she isn't a real witness" What the f*ck, sorry, but how is the fact that his sister is not longer a witness relevant, the guy deserves to be in jail but yet he said "sorry" so its all ok? Its all messed up, as long as tehy keep there numbers up and the name out of the paper, the kids can suffer...F*ckers. I'm so ANGRY!!

  KatitKitten, too funny! After one of those "I found a tract in a bin and now Im baptised" crappiola stoies a sis in my cong went around placing WT's and tracts in all teh neighbourhood bins. Bet she counted them as placements...

  Does anyone else feel like this???

  i don't post much but sure do love reading everyone else's post.

  everyone here for the most part seems so normal (for apostates, haha).

  so, i was born and raised a jw, baptized at 14, disfellowshipped at 17, reinstated at 28. the only reason i think i did that was because after 10 years of no contact with my father, mother and little sister they came to visit me (they lived on the east coast i live on the west coast) and i was so overwhelmed with seeing them and talking to them and hugging them, i wanted so much to please them and have a relationship with them again that i fooled myself into thinking i needed the "organization" and jehovah's approval to be worthy of their love.

  Princess I know how you feel, I am almost you age and have lived a double life since i came up from the baptismal pool! Before I used to hide so much from my mother and sister but now I don't I have stopped going meetings and ministry and don't hide the fact that I attend b'day parties or go out clubbing. Its so hard though as you don't want to hurt anyone.

  I finally took my stand.

  i just missed two meetings for the first time in five years.. this past week i went "on vacation", housesitting for relatives nearby.

  i told my bookstudy overseer i'd be "away", even though i was only a twenty minute drive from the kingdom hall.

  i spent the entire week away from my insane family, away from the meetings and away from my "brothers and sisters".. it felt great.. coming home felt... not so great.. but the first brick in my fade has been laid.

  I am new here, but reading this is helping me so much, I have just hit my 6 months of no ministry mark, so am now "inactive". My mother is trying to guilt trip me to come back to the meetings, and I don't know if I have the strength to withstand the pressure. I asked her if she wanted me to do things because I felt they were right or because it made her happy, she answered that she wanted me to do things as they would please Jehovah, but thats just it...Jehovah isn't real to me anymore. i see things for what they are. the kingdom hall is nothing more than a brain washing facility. Where we are not allowed to question the elders and the method of doing things.

  At the moment I'm ok as I and a friend decided at the same time that the Jdub thing was utter nonsense and stopped going at the same time, so at least I have someone to hang with who undertsands what I'm going thru completely. But my mate is soon to go away and I will be alone, my old book study conductor keeps calling and trying to meet me, but I have managed so far to avoid him. But I truly am worried that I'll slide back into teh old routine of meetings as it just makes my family life easier.
