I may lose my wife because of Disfellowshipping
by freedomfighter inhave only been out of the organisation for 2 months and the wounds still run deep.
particularly hard is the fact that my wife and 8 yr old son are now divided in our beliefs.
we cannot go out as a family with our old friends like we use to.

That’s a hard one. I am living a similar dilemma, with the difference that I am still in and serving as an elder. My family is the only reason why I have not made a final decision yet. But, eventually I will have to do just that. I see it this way. If I continue to live a lie, would I be able to forgive myself for having wasted my entire life just to please others? If one of my children is hospitalized and needs a blood transfusion, will I let him die for a lie? Since at this point I do not believe there is going to be any other life after my death, can I really afford to keep torturing myself indefinitely and, therefore, spoil the only life I am going to ever have? My decision is to fade first, but I know I will not get away with it, and the elders will hunt me, especially taking into consideration that my wife and all her family are radical supporters of the WT. I will eventually have to disassociate my self. But, you know your own situation better than anyone else. It is ultimately your decision.

Does paradise still seem attractive to you?
by Hiddenwindow indo you think paradise, as depicted by the watchtower, an everlasting life praising jehovah and playing with what we now know as wild animals, not to mention cultivating a piece of land, is really a desirable place?
bear in mind that there is no reference to science and that personal goals are non-existent..

NBC report and the WT insulting position
by Hiddenwindow init is a real shame that the wt acts this way, keeping things barely legal, reporting cases only when mandated by the aurthorities, while showing an obvious disregard for the victims.
it is deeply sad that jw children are being protected, not by the wt, but by the media and the so-called apostates, because it is only after the exposure that the wt has started to turn this into a real issue.
and, as said by others in this forum, they are still missing the point.

One more point. If you read the WT statement to NBC you will also notice that it has been presented in a way that only those who already have knowledge of the matter would understand. It tries to dismiss the real issue and does not provide details on the settlement. Since JW are systematically dicouraged from accessing information that is critical to the sect, this means that the majority would continue in ignorance of the fact tha their money is being used in this disgraceful manner.

Are there any Bethelites or ex-Bethelites here?
by Hiddenwindow inif so, here is a question for you: what absurd rules do they have at bethel that do not apply to the rest of the witnesses?

Why God permits wickedness..the argument and counter logic
by wherehasmyhairgone inwhen i was a pioneer i used to get the comment a lot, as i am sure most here have.. my stock answer was the analogy.... wt 2002 10/1 page 7 as an example.
imagine a father allowing his child to go thru a painful operation in-order to get better...hence why god permits suffering.
anyway i used to trot this out without any counter arguments.. even when i left, it still seemed a reasonable explanations, then something clicked.

Since we sob, cry, pray, and scream and no one from "upstairs" responds, I am about to fall for this:
In a universe of electrons and selfish genes, blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won't find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any justice. The universe that we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but pitiless indifference.

Excellent book...I really enjoyed it. I am reading In Search of Christian Freedom now and believe it is even more thoughtful that Crisis... It is clear that by publishing these books, Ray Franz is causing (and will continue to cause) a profound effect on thousands of Witnesses. In the process of reading them, I confirmed many of the doubts and fears I had developed since, as a teenager, I started to understand the "Truth".

Lying is okay
by Hiddenwindow inthere are several doctrinal explications in the wt literature about which the average jw is not aware.
one that has always puzzled me is the definition that the insight book gives to lying.
it explains that lying does not mean to provide false information, but that it means to give wrong information to whoever has the right to know.

There are several doctrinal explications in the WT literature about which the average JW is not aware. One that has always puzzled me is the definition that the Insight book gives to lying. It explains that lying does not mean to provide false information, but that it means to give wrong information to whoever has the right to know. Therefore, if you give wrong information to an individual who does not have the right to know such information, you are not lying. This is, of course, very interesting, because, based on such interpretation, the Governing Body may considered, and in fact it has done it, as shown by the UN scandal, that the average Witness does not have the right to know this or that. I have experienced that most witnesses do not think on the implications of this, or do not even know about it. What has your experience been on this issue?
