sunflowers, I remember that picture. Someone remarked that he looked "like a homosexual". That's one of the pictures I remember where Satan is gesturing with his left hand.

CREATIONISM----F.Y.I
by nakedmvistar inin the midst of the debates -- or wars -- concerning the issues of creation and evolution, there is a tendency to over-generalize.
both sides often refer to the opposing side with the broad term of either "evolutionist" or "creationist.
" and yet there exists within both sides a great deal of variety and even controversy.

You'll notice the my there. I'm looking for an ape that has enough human characteristics to no longer be ape but not enough human to be human. A transitional species proving a clear progression from ape to man.
But if you found one, you wouldn't consider it a transitional species. You'd consider it just another ape. Do you consider bonobo chimps to be a transitional species? Their similarities to humans are astounding. What about extinct species such as A. afarensis, H.neanderthalis or H. erectus? Transitional, or just some of the countless millions of species directly created by Yahweh 6000 years ago? What characteristics would an organism have to have, before you'd consider it "transitional"?

There are many possibilities and many questions. Our scientists work hard to give us answers, but in many instances, can only present us with "maybe's" and "what if's". And within the scientific groups, there is so much differential going on. Are we just to "pick" what sounds good to us? And, could our own ideas have just as much merit?
No, Sentinel. The wonderful thing about science is that we don't just "pick what sounds good to us." Science is based on testable hypotheses. If they don't fit the evidence, they're out. Our own ideas could have just as much merit, but to be accepted they would have to withstand the rigours of the scientific process.

I have found that my logical reasoning can be someone elses finger pointing non sense.
I've found the same. What you consider logical, I point to as risible nonsense. Hey, at least we agree on something!
If God wants you to know the truth, He'll tell it to you. If He doesn't want you to know the truth, He will remain silent while you call Him an idiot.
So if we don't believe in god, it's not our fault, it's his? Presumably then, he won't punish us for not believing in him or respecting him. What an idiot.

You're right. Silence!

FD, I don't know how one determines if a person is left-handed from a picture
Whenever the devil is showing gesturing, it's with his left hand. Jesus is always shown using his right hand.

I've noticed that WT illustrators, like medieval artists, always portray the devil as left-handed. What does the Watchtower have against Southpaws?

Questions For The Skeptics (Unbelievers)
by Zechariah ini have announced i am on a crusade to encourage skeptics to think on the issue in a way they probably have never done before.
i initially have made the mistake of cramming everything into one, two or three posts.
this i should have immediately recognized is an impossibilty because what i have in mind requires a great amount of meditation to fu;;y comprehend.

You are very disingenuous to suggest skeptics are open-minded and not biased towards unbelief.
Of course skeptics are biased towards "unbelief". Belief is something that happens only when the available evidence is significant. Do I believe in unicorns? No. Why not? Because I don't have enough evidence to support such a belief. It may or may not benefit me to believe in unicorns, but I cannot force myself to believe something that I don't really believe. For honest thinkers, belief is never a choice. Disbelief is the norm when it comes to supernatural phenomena. If it wasn't we'd believe anything.
I myself have not claimed a willingness to be open-minded and do not apologize for it. I will never accept anything as evidence that does not benefit me.
Ah, the "la-la-la I can't hear you" school of thought.
What I would like from skeptics is that they admit the same is true for them.
But it isn't. Skeptics believe only what the evidence compels them to believe, whatever the implications - the exact opposite of your philosophy.
Never will they accept as evidence anything that supports God existence for they have already preconcieved such a notion ridiculous.
Not ridiculous, just unlikely given the available evidence. New evidence causes skeptics to change their belief system.
It is only the skeptic that pretends to appreciate being unsure.
I, for one, don't appreciate being unsure about anything. That's precisely why I try to be utterly certain about what I believe, and why I believe in things only to the degree that the available evidence warrants.
I benefit as long as I believe.
How exactly?
My questions serves to help skeptics realize the full implications of what they have chosen to believe.
No they don't. They're a flimsy version of Pascal's Wager.
I am not a glutton for punishment. I am not going to allow anyone to convince me of something it is not in my benefit to believe it. If I am wrong about there being God though I believe he exists I am no worse off than before.
Perhaps for some people blissful ignorance is preferable to facing reality. But not for me.
Despite my belief I still like the skeptics understand it is my GOD GIVEN right to believe as I choose. As is yours. All I suggest is you choose wisely. Not out of fear but only after a cost benefit analysis as one skeptic suggests.
And this skeptic suggested precisely the opposite. Belief is not a cost-benefit analysis. Belief should only be based on evidence.

The Key to Understanding Scripture
by Zechariah inthe following is a repost of a april 2001 post on h2o.. .
the key to properly understanding the bible is remembering that it is all about the spirit.
whatever is spoken of in the bible no matter how literal it appears to be is intended to convey something of the spirit.

Oy! That sounds like a true JW if I ever heard one: given the choice of a paradise on earth and... what, destruction at Armageddon?... what "benefit" is there in disbelieving their teachings?
Isn't it that very type of thinking that keeps a great many JW's enslaved, Zechariah? Methinks so!
Shelby, something must be very wrong! I find myself agreeing with you!
A slave of Christ
And not a trace of irony. Oh well... -

The desire to return just for family's sake
by Ephanyminitas inthose of you who have close witness family members -- how hard has it been not to just throw up your hands and just return to the society, just for appearance's sake?
my parents, whom i love very much, are witnesses, and it's very difficult for me to go day to day knowing that i'm completely letting them down.
i no longer believe anything the society says, but oh how tempting it would be to just go back and fake my way through, knowing that i could give my parents peace.

Do not you believe in the power of prayer?
It may have some benefit for the person praying, in the same way that meditation appears to, but no more. Regarding the studies Yeru referred to, there have been many studies which show no significant benefit to prayer, but they rarely make tabloid headlines.
Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? If so why?
No, because I do not live in the USA.
Do you believe a law of reciprocity (reaping what you sow) exists? If so who or what enforces these laws?
I don't believe it exists as an inherent property of the universe, but "tit for tat" is a very successful evolutionary strategy and has been selected for many times.
Do you agree with the following concept?
No. Dualism seems wholly unnecessary. All the available evidence suggests that everything we are is contained in our physical bodies, and works entirely on natural principles.Physical man and spirit man are two distinct entities integrated into one creature known as a hu/man or a man of the humus
