Birthdays and my six year old

i am divorced from a jw and we have two children.

i have been out for 10 years but we both were raised 'in.

' we share custody so the little ones are a little confused as to why mommy gives them a b-day party, has a christmas tree and takes them to an hour of church mostly spent singing but daddy just drags them to 5 hours of lecture a week and won't let them be friends with the neighbor kids.. sunday night, after a week with his father, my six year old told me that he can't celebrate his b-day because a guy got his head cut off in the bible at a b-day party.

Sunday night, after a week with his father, my six year old told me that he can't celebrate his B-day because a guy got his head cut off in the bible at a B-day party. I told him that one time someone got killed in a car wreck, so I guess we shouldn't drive our car anymore. He looked at me and a lightbulb practically appeared over his head as he got it. (he is a smart kid, too smart for my own good) I'm sure that the ex will fill his head with more BS about B-days, any suggestions or personal experiences that might inspire me for future questions?

This just reinforces the JW mindset. I remember reading as a Witness about cults and how to prove that JWs are not a cult but Catholics were. If you are 'in' then you just take it as it comes and interpret it as you are told.

Man I was screwed up then.

Personal records of governing body members

i'm looking for web site links to credible information about present governing body members specifically personal tax and financial records (personal u.s. and offshore bank accounts, net worth, financial and real estate holdings, blind trusts).

as public figures they're fair game..

Honestly it does not surprise me that there are no records. In Ray Franz's book he described himself on the GB, taking trips, having a car provided, etc, but none of those things were paid for by him and nothing belonged to him. The GB are well taken care of and their expenses are probably considered 'business expenses.' They do not need to own a great car or house to feel powerful, all they have to do is walk down the hall and soak up the 'worship' of the witnesses who trip over themselves just to gaze upon them.

This also comes in handy if, like Ray, they have a less than honorable dismissal from Bethel. No money, no skills, no life, therefore no paper trail.

What should I say next?

i know one elder that has a habit of saying "let jehovah take care of that" "just wait on jehovah", etc..., what should i say back?

he is pretty good conversation stopper.

i want to change that!

Aren't we supposed to "Pray incessantly" that doesn't sound like a wait and see approach. In fact there is a parable of a man knocking on the door in the night after the family is asleep, and he keeps knocking until he gets an answer. Jesus says to keep asking until you receive it.

Would you rather see the WTS move mainstream or just collapse in a heap?

maybe eventually the wts will adapt and change and try to go mainstream.. as 'new shite' shines brightly then;.

maybe eventually celebrating birthdays and even christmas will be 'allowed' without too many repercussions.. maybe eventually the 'blood' issue will fade away and 'brothers' wil be allowed the whole lot of fractions together at the same time.. maybe eventually disfellowshipping and particularly shunning will be seen as unloving and done away with.. personally i would rather this wouldn't happen.. i would prefer to see the wts collapse in the mire even with all the emotional fallout there would be to those still in having their crutches pulled away from them.. i don't want the wts to modify and adapt and go more gentle on the rank and file.. i want them to get more harsh with the brothers.. i want it to go down, not along.. am i being too cruel to those still in?.

would the more loving caring attitude be to hope that the wts changes for the better?.

Though I would love to see a collapse, I would be happy if it mainstreamed just enough to allow my parents to come to my wedding in a Catholic church. Or even to visit with me without insinuating that I left the witnesses just to get laid. "thanks Mom"

The Proud Humble People

i've noticed that there are quite a number of uneducated, unaccomplished jw's who seem to take their lack of accomplishment and education as a positive accomplishment.. the proud humble.. .

that and the constant references to people being too smart leaving the [b]organization.

The best part is when an elderly witness talks about how great her fulltime pioneer/maid daughter is so wonderful and how disappointed she is in her materialistic college grad/accountant daughter. All the while she living in a house with the pioneer daughter; a house that is financially maintained by the college educated daughter. Sickening!

Do you think we need a reasoning book for us to deal with JW?

i would like to have that book!

i would like to know what to say if someone says "lets wait on jehovah" or "let jehovah take care of that", etc...... i would buy that book!

Have you read "Answering Jehovah's Witnesses" by Jason Evert? It has a lot of great questions to ask that are designed to make the Witness think because he/she does not have a rote answer to give.

For example when discussing hell, bring up Lazarus and the rich man parable. After the Witness tells you that it is a story that Jesus told that represents something else, ask him why Jesus would use an example of something 'not true' to explain something that IS true. Didn't Jesus use everyday examples that people would understand? Why would he try to confuse people?

This book has really helped me deal with my mom, and has provided me with endless entertainment when some poor, unsuspecting witness knocks on my door.

Ever fake ring a bell? Take a long time writing down not at homes?

my whole life, even when i pioneered, i dreaded field service.

i was always uncomfertable rolling up to peoples houses uninvited.

so i used to have this technique where i would pretend to ring the bell.

My pioneer boyfriend and I, pioneering as well, would go to a certain return visit that we knew lived half the year in Arizona. His door was hidden from the street, so we had really long calls with him at least twice a week (with different car groups). I could almost be disfellowshipped for the things we did on that porch. Ha ha.

Talked to a woman about her custody battle tonight

she messaged me on youtube about my video, really wanted to talk to me about jws.

i called her tonight and we talked about the jws and how her husband is trying to keep her kids away from her.

it's basically all the same stuff we've heard from every jw/non-jw custody battle.

My lawyer has been wonderful in my custody case. There is a packet that is used by the JW lawyers that details the strategies used to hide the cult-like behavior of JWs.
