I was watching the show on Discovery Health about the True ER stories, and they had a segment on a JW who wouldn't take a transfusion after a snakebite.
Too bad there aren't more shows like this that highlight the absurdity of JW doctrine... maybe more people would "wise-up".
Logic, I saw that episode a while back. Aside from the very bad acting, the show was good.

by doinmypart inmiami ink is a show about tattooing, it airs on u.s. cable channel tlc.
the show highlights the work of the tattoo artists and tells the background of why a person gets a particular tattoo.. on last week's show a young lady wanted what she referred to as a "conscience" tattoo.

Happiness versus unhappiness
by jacethespace infor those of you who have left the watchtower have you experienced greater happiness since leaving than when you were in.especially a feeling of all that pressure lifting of conforming to the tower that you didnt realize originally made you misrable and was blamed on satan.thats how ive feel these days since leaving.i feel more natural and mentally stable than when i was a conforming jw.. on the other hand have you noticed these days when i bump into my ex congregation associates they look quite unhappy and depressed.then again it could be because some of them dont know how to deal with me knowing that ive left watchtower land..

I was and am much happier since I left several years ago. We enjoy more family time, family events, life is much better outside of such a controlling organization. We study the Bible together as a family and have a much deeper respect for it than we actually did in the organization.
Now that you are out you are seeing the unhappiness of your former JW friends in which they are blind to. -

Funerals = JW infomercials
by Lady Zombie inone of the more asinine practices of jws is to turn someone's funeral into a borg infomercial.
every single jw relative i've had who has passed away, had an infomercial funeral.
hardly anything was ever said about them as people, except of course in how they served the borg.. "sister x was a very pugnatious woman, even into her late 80's, as i'm sure her family can attest to.

Good for you Velvetann!
At every JW funeral I've gone to the "talk" has been almost the same cookie cutter one.
I did have an interesting one I went to once. Before everyone left the chapel at the funeral home the elder who gave the talk said, "There will be no graveside service but you are welcome to come to the cemetary but it's not necessary." Well EVERYONE showed up and while we were assembling this one elder told the one in charge, "I thought you said these idiots didn't need to come out here." Right away one of the non-JWs daughters of the lady who died walked right over to him because she heard what was said and told him off in front of over 200 people (I won't repeat what she said - but I will say it was some of the most "colorful" language I ever heard). He was red as a tomato.
Even though I was "in" at the time, I loved what she did. It was totally disrespectful of that elder to have said what he did.
When my mother died I was already out and we didn't allow a JW "funeral" to take place. I told my wife when we were making the arrangements, "My mother is more important than their propaganda!" -

Interesting. I wonder how many saw this and were talking about it in private.

Gas Prices & Field Service
by doinmypart inthe reason given for combining the bookstudy with the tms and service meeting was rising gas prices.
whether that was society's true reason for the change or not, that was what the publishers were told.. if i were a publisher contemplating this coming weekend's field service activity and a near-empty gas tank, i simply would not go out.. do you think there will be a corresponding reduction in the number of field service hours as gas prices increase?.
has anyone noticed a trend in the monthly reports published in the km?.

Loosie, they were told to finish out their year - the three started the pioneering all together - but they weren't able to sign back up for it for another year after that. None of them did and one eventually left the org.

Thanks for the confirmation about this but if anyone has an actual copy and able to scan at least Colossians 1:16-20 this would be helpful. I ordered one through a friend but it could be a few weeks before I get it in my hands to scan it for every [other] person here.

I agree with BreakingAway, less door to door and more lying on those reports.
I remember some pioneers who got caught "stretching" their time. -

I wonder if this is referring to a non-English version, a translation into another language from the official English monster.
