so i was thinking about baptism today, and something that was said in my jc meeting a few months ago.
i was baptized at the ripe old age of 10. yes that's right, 10. that should be illegal.
what kind of 10 year old knows what they want to do for the rest of their life?
I really don't see the issue with JW baptism. Personally I think it's better than how other religions do it.
You could have been a baby being baptised into the church. Then when you were 10 went through classes became confirmed ands start partaking communion because mom n dad wanted you to. How is that any different?

not sure if this was caught on in your cong or not, but now our service overseers text everyone in their group for their field service time.. now i understand that texting and email are good tools, i use them everyday.

i posted about this on my own website, but i'd like to get thoughts here as well, since jw's are big proponents of the 'violence is the answer' side of this debate.. new research is suggesting that spanking children may result in lowered iq's.
(la times article) one hypothosis i've read elsewhere as to why this may be is because when faced with an unexpected result (the glass broke) the non-spanked child wonders why the glass broke and how much abuse a glass can take before breaking (essentually, the problem-solving/scientific parts of the mind find the unexpected result interesting, and want to learn more).
the spanked child immediately enters fear mode - he's in trouble, his parents will be dealing him pain soon.

yawn. really is a not an issue my ex-gf was born in Brasil to a Brasilian Father and a US Citizen Mother. She has Brazilian citizenship AND US citizenship by birth due to her mother being a US Citizen.
inspired by another thread.. i was baptized at 12 years old.
i had a cousin, two years older than me, who was prettier, more outgoing and more popular in the hall than i was.
i couldn't beat her at any of that stuff, but i figured i could be a better jw than she was.
I was 16 and believed what I was taught...and thought it was expected of me. I do remember at the time thinking it was a bit...odd that my JW mom questioned me wanting to make sure that's what I wanted to do. If I only knew then how I would feel about it now.
