In Ireland EVERYONE has a mobile phone with SMS text messaging (even landlines have it). I've been out for 2 years, but before that I was inactive for a few years. I would get the monthly SMS message requesting my report if I didn't fill in the paper form. I texted back a lot of 0's.

Elders and texting
by Iwonder17 innot sure if this was caught on in your cong or not, but now our service overseers text everyone in their group for their field service time.. now i understand that texting and email are good tools, i use them everyday.
but how impersonal can you be.
espicially when it comes to "life saving work".

I DONT KNOW WHAT TO THINK...!
by iknowall558 ini need some help /advice.......think i'm finally starting to go crazy..... .
within a year...we've come out of org and lost all our friends...... we get shunned by all along with family members .... we have moved house....... and my youngest son ,7yrs, had to be taken out of his school because he couldn't cope with the shunning of me and his dad....... and recently i lost my husband, and my kids have lost their dad....he walked out on us 6weeks ago.. .
my friends....fellow apostates, have been invaluable to me and have been there from the word go.....i love them all so much... but lately, after doing so well and coping admirably considering.........he texted me tonight to say that ....some of my friends "have more than one face and would have me believe they only have my best interests at heart all of the time.

I agree - he's messing with you. You should document these things (save the text messages) - they may be considered abuse if they continue.
Try to laugh off the pathetic fool. Don't let him get to you, that's what he wants.

Admiring evolution
by GapingMouth inas a born-in, i was taught to reject evolution right off.
that coupled with not being taught it accurately at school (and for only about an hour) it is only now after breaking free of jws that i have been learning about it.
dawkins has instilled in me an admiration and appreciation for evolution and its elegance.

It's just a beautiful thing. That complexity can be built up from such simple building blocks by natural processes is amazing. As Richard Dawkins says "it really is the greatest show on earth".
Haven't seen the show on Ardi yet. It's scheduled to record this Sunday. Really looking forward to it.

More religious weirdness: kosher elevators

Soooo.... Running elevators continuously whether people are riding or not, thus wasting energy, is doing less work than someone pushing a button? Jews have a special brand of crazy.

Closing Scene of Bill Maher's Religulous
by the real life inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgfv6rxjmca.
this is an entertaining and moving documentary on the idiocy of religion.
i especially liked the closing speech.. "the plain fact is, religion must die for mankind to live.

Did the sun stand still and go backwards up the steps?
by TJ - iAmCleared2Land inbeen a while since i posted here, but driving into work the other day i recalled how "excited" we all were when it was announced that scientists had discovered "proof" that there is a full "day" missing astronomically, for the exact period of time covered by joshua's having the sun stand still, and isaiah having the sun move backwards, sending the shadow back up the steps for hezekiah.. that got me searching jwd for a thread about this topic, and i didn't find one, but i did find this snopes article.. http://www.snopes.com/religion/lostday.asp.

I met up with an old friend who had not been to meetings for over a year and he was telling me he wasn't sure what to believe. This guy was working in accounting, and had studied computer science at university. He brought this up - how running the calculations backwards revealed a missing day. I just laughed out loud at him (at the time I thought I was laughing WITH him. I thought he must be joking). He took great offence at my making fun of him, and I quickly tried to cover it over and explain I was laughing at the obsurdity of the idea, and not him. Poor sap. Even though I did make him see this was one of the many lies he needed to see past, he's ended up back in the borg, and has even ratted me out about my evil "independent thinking".

JW's Defend 607 BCE Teaching!
by tryingtoexit inmy father (who's an elder) just sent me this link...and i'd like to get yall opinions on it before i call him back:.
apostates and other opposers argue that jerusalem was not destroyed in 607 bce, but in 587 bce, and provide what they claim is archaeological evidence to support this.
if 607 bce is wrong, then the seven times prophecy ending in 1914 ce would be wrong also.. .
