My dad (elder) falls into the Kool-Aid category. I once was trying to talk to him about a teaching that I didn't agree with. He told me to just go along with whatever I was told, don't try to think for myself. I asked him "If the CO told all of the elders that they had to wear pink tutus to the meetings and in service, even though he knows this would be wrong biblicly, would he go along with what he was told." He said he would! I was just speechless.

Opinion - What % of JWs are hardcore Kool Aid partakers?
by Gregor inthe recent thread about the 1975 after effects (fall off in members) got me to thinking about the ratio of hardcore, "can't kill 'em with a stick", witnesses to the marginal, "spiritually weak", followers.
for all the backtracking and double talk old freddy caused the gb with his 1975 'vision', they learned a lot about the make up of their followers and were reassured that they have a hardcore majority base that will always be there.
my guess is it is around 80/20.

Had an interesting dream the other night
by AlmostAtheist ina friend and i were trying to get somewhere fast, and i knew that it would be quicker if we ran through this church.
so we went through a secret entrance and found ourselves in the church.
she said, "wow, i've never broken into a church before.".

Funny. For some reason I'm picturing you (Fry) and your friend (Bender) trying to escape from a futuristic church where the pews are robotic.

I'd sum it up like this:
Old Testament = God is a dick.
New Testament = Jesus says be nice.

Society's latest stance on Evolution in Jan 1, 2008 WT (bonus quote mining)
by marmot inmy parents gave me the latest "public edition" watchtower and it has 4-page festival of circular logic and hypocritical quote-mining entitled "is evolution compatible with the bible?
the opening salvo is golden, because they go and shoot themselves in the foot with it later on: "is it possible that god used evolution to create men from beasts?
did god direct bacteria to develop into fish and then to continue developing through reptiles and mammals, so that finally a race of apes became humans?

Pretty soon a JW 5th grader will be able to see through their poorly crafted (lies) logic.
When that happens, the Watchtower will ban education past the 4th grade!

How do angels and demons influence mankind?
by onacruse inwts publications, and indeed virtually all religions on this planet, assert that angels and demons have regular influence on mankind, on individual human beings as well as on the general course of human events.. but i've never read anything specific about how they supposedly accomplish this.. do they tweak our neurons?
do they fiddle with our hormones, thereby making us feel good or bad about a certain course of action?
do they inject thoughts into our brains, perhaps in such a subtle way that we think those are our own thoughts?

Same was as leprechauns and banshees do. I mean - they dont. It's just JW ghost stories.
It doesn't make any sense. If angels or demons could make people do things they wouldn't otherwise do, then how can we be punished or rewarded for our actions?
