HA! USA must be pretty bad. From my Irish perspective the English elders are very up-tight about alcohol. Much more so than the Irish. If they had a keg at the back of the KH I think the Irish brothers would partake during the meeting (I would). But some of the English elders wont even go out for a beer because they don't want to stuble anyone. I'd imagine the Scottish would be on par with the Irish. Don't know about the Welsh. Wierd bunch there.

Alcoholism in England-How do the Elders deal with this?
by CaptainSchmideo inas i understand it, drinking in the uk is not as stigmatized as it is in the us.
going to the pub after the sunday meeting is on a par with going to the all-you-can-eat chinese buffet over here in the us.. so, if a person has real problems with drinking, and asks for help, how do the elders handle this?
if they themselves tipple overmuch, how can they be unbiased in rendering judicial matters in this regard?.

Assembly Resolutions
by DT ineven when i was a believing jw, i began to really dislike those fake assembly resolutions.
my biggest complaint was that we weren't given any time to think about them before we were called on to agree.
i thought they were pretty meaningless and stopped responding to them.

Are you kidding! These are great. It's our one opportunity to have our say about the running of the organization. They make a motion, and we agree or shut-up. Democracy in action.

Finally got asked "THE Question"
by TweetieBird ini don't post too often here but have been coming here for a few years now.
i have been successfully fading for the past 10 years (so i thought) but went to visit jw family members last week and the matriarch of the family asked us if we still believed it was jehovah's organization.
after avoiding a direct answer and trying to skirt the issue for a while, finally the hubby said, "no, we don't believe it's jehovah's organization".

NOW what do we called Disfellowshiped ones?? Since we don't use ....
by oompa in...that term anymore, so are not disfellowshipped any more, but just no longer a witness, what is that?
i wonder what word it will become to describe these ones and the action taken?
we don't have one yet, but most dubs i know are still saying "he's disfellowshiped" oooo scary.

JK's right. The DF and DA terms still apply. It's just that the official announcement doesn't specify which one it is.
If its a DF, then the gossip will soon reveal all of the dirty details and everyone will know it was a DF.
If its a DA, then the elders will keep quiet, and everyone will assume it was a DF since they didn't hear about the person disassociating (and why would ANYONE do that!)

Own up time...
by Chalam inwell it looks like this site is a real melting pot, a broad spectrum of views and beliefs.
for sure there are many disaffected ex jws.
so in as few words as possible, preferably not more than one sentence, how would you describe yourself spiritually?

I wish the nightmares would stop.
by Micky4321 indo any of you have nightmares as a result of the jw religion.
i haven't been to any meetings in 17 years but i have nightmares a couple times a month about the whole thing.
in my dreams the scenario will be i am at an assembly or a meeting against my will and everyone is ignoring me and some are glaring at me and i am trying to leave but for some reason i can't get out of the building.

I had the nightmares when I was a kid.
Thankfully I don't have JW nightmares now. Still have nightmares about high-school though, and that was 18 years ago.

the King of the North is Santa.
If that's true - perhaps the king of the south is the King Penguin. I can imagine santa and his army of mighty elves battling it out with the penguins.
