My dad full shunned me the last 12 years of his life and he fractionally shunned me the last 33 years. I finally accepted that I was not important to him. His whole life was a lie and he was pissed that I wouldn't join him.
He got everything he wanted in 2007. He hated this world, he wanted pain eliminated, and he didn't want to get older. He's out of this world, he won't have any more pain and he won't get any older.
We're very different. I like this world, I accept pain as a necessary part of life, and I want to keep getting older. I like living a life grounded in rational reality. I didn't enjoy that time trying to function in a religious fantasy. It was too weird.

by Pioneer Spit...oh, i mean Spirit inme again, about something i said to my dad today (i posted about the conversation a bit ago).
when he was saying his goodbye because out of loyalty he has to treat me like a disfellowshipped one.
i said, 'well, maybe they'll change that rule.

Anyone else here a 1976 baby?!
by Mickey mouse ini just realised recently that my birth at the end of 1976 could well have been a result of my parents being disappointed at the absence of armageddon in 1975 so they may as well have a baby afterall.

1917 Watchtower Schism Documents PDFs
by cabasilas ini've had these items laying around for awhile and thought i'd make pdfs of them.
they are scans of some of the actual documents from the 1917 schism at watchtower headquarters: the dispute between rutherford and 4 members of the board of directors.
as far as i know, these exist as text files on a couple of sites and are also on another site with garish watermarks through them.

Eve, 1975 and time
by JWdaughter inok, this is a bit off the cuff.
and it was inspired by a comment made by someone about cain.
if adam was 130 when seth was born, then we know that eve was not 130 at that time.

(New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, WTBTS 1984 Revision, Genesis 5:3 3) And Adam lived on for a hundred and thirty years. Then he became father to a son in his likeness, in his image, and called his name Seth.
(Insight on the Scriptures, WTBTS 1988 Vol. 2, p. 899) Seth
The son of Adam and Eve born when Adam was 130 years old. Eve named him Seth . . .
(Aid to Bible Understanding, WTBTS, 1971 ed. p.538) EVE
At the age of 130 another son was born to her. Eve called his name Seth, . . . -

Were YOU Personally Disappointed That The End Didn't Come Yet?
Nope!
I was pissed that I had been tricked and lied to. It was easy to accept that I was stupid, but it was hard to accept that my parents were idiots. -

Did Rutherford borrow the name "Jehovah's witnesses"?
by cabasilas ini was doing some searches on google books tonight using "jehovah's witnesses" and i was stunned with these references from 19th and early 20th century texts which use the term "jehovah's witnesses.
" i don't have the time to develop this info into a full-fledged post, but i ask those who might be interested in the subject to check these references out.
(i realize some of these may not work outside the us due to copyright issues and i've put the page number next to the url to aid in finding the reference).

Arguing With a Believer Is Like Playing Chess
by What-A-Coincidence innice metaphor for religion and how impossibly difficult it is to influence the actions or beliefs of some people with deep seated faith.

I've always thought debating a believing Jehovah's Witness was like being in a pissing contest with a skunk. It's like trying to reason with a drunk. My friend told me that debating a Witness is like putting a pig in a prom dress. You can do it, but you get tired, dirty, AND it pisses off the pig.

Janitor question and the KH phone is busy
by garybuss inhow do i load a 20" floor buffer in the back of my pick up alone without killing my back?
serious question.
i just bought a buffer to use in refinishing some oak floors.

I got it out okay and it went up the three steps into the apartment pretty east because of those nice wheels on back. I like the box and the winch ideas both. I'm gonna work on that. This buffer is the heaviest thing I haul to jobs. My tile saw is easier to load than this buffer.
I'll only be using it to refinish wood floors so it won't be going to every job. Thanks for all the ideas. -

I think I set a new clinch record when I loaded that buffer tonight. Ya couldn't have pulled a pin out of my ass with a bulldozer.
