I had an experience similar to that in some ways . I had just lost parents close together , no help from the local elders. I t was my problem so i managed, got through it.
Then the elders came around to counsel me and about my 4y old daugter smelling of urine!!
I said on a scale of 1-10 what you are worried about is 0, so unimportant. I had just lost both parents within 10 months.
They left me alone and i left them

i have just had a long conversation with a dear friend, and we came to the same conclusion most people do not really think.. he is 75 and is fizzing with ideas, got a phd at 60. in fractals( no have little idea what they are).

in the very early days of my explaining to certain witnesses my doubts, i kind of ran through all of them.
they probobly merged into one big hodge-podge of apostate doubting nonsense.
- the nephilim penis size, the animals in the ark, the she bears killing the kids, davids baby being killed by god for his adultery, jesus sacrifice not really being a sacrifice, the torture of jw's in the camps, appointment of elders, the changing doctrines.........but more than a few elders/rank & file witnesses told me that i "think about stuff too much".
I was always told i asked to many questions by my dad, used to drive him nuts. The same happened at school. I did not care if i looked like an idiot , which i sometimes did That is the way to learn. Sadly i became a JW. Glad i am out now
Now as the proud parent of two bright and one exceptionally bright child i understand what my dad went through. I hope i am different

when i was in the 4th grade, a classroom bully (boy) punched me in the face (i'm female) because i didn't say the pledge of allegiance.
he was a big boy and i was an average sized girl.
he didn't break my nose, but he bloodied it, knocked out one of my baby teeth, and caused both my eyes to get blackened.
Being 6'4" seemed to make people think so the answer is no

Thanks Momz it was not meant to be aimed at anyone, and was an attempt to explore thinking and why we do not often do it. I was a JW for far to long married for longer than i should have been Why ? Beacuase i did not think. The wts and teaches us not to think

Hi A&G I now a litte of your personal circumstances and i wish you well. It is quite difficult i know and requires a lot of thought and heartsearching.
I do agree about doing own research too. it does require effort which you are used to having done a degree.

i was hungry for soup and hungry for carbs so i made a quick soup and it turned out so well (bragging here) i wrote the recipe down.
hardly a recipe in fact, so easy, but i want to be able to do it again.
here it is: vegetable soup with german dumplings 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour 1/2 cup of egg substitute (or you could use two eggs) 1/2 teaspoon of salt 1 tablespoon grated parmesan 1 tablespoon of oil 4-6 cups chicken broth 1 pound frozen mixed vegetablesput chicken broth and mixed vegetables in a wide pot and bring to a boil.
Tomato Soup Easy and muc better than canned!
Fry onions in Olive oil with garlic.
Add a can of tomatos when onions soft
Reduce then any herbs you like .
In a liquidiser put in about a pint of milk add the fried onions and tomatoes.
Liquidise then strain
Add to 4 pint of boilling water
Add 12oz tomato puree . Hey presto done !!
Add ground balck pepper to taste

Spot on. As much as we complain about the lack of critical thinking the problem starts with a lack of critical observation .
You can be the best thinker in the world... but there is not much to think about if you refuse to see what is around you at more than a cursory level.

I agree Jeff with your observation.. After thinking about somethimg sometimes actions are required. For instance most here on this board were JW's then for whatever reason we started thinking about the veracity of our beleifs. This then lead us to make a decision do we accept and stay and live a lie or move on? One takes courage the other does not. If we have children the imperative must be to move on and hope that they come with us.
Thinking is challenging but fun too

Ineteresting points. I can not for the life of me believe that the US excursion into Iraq was ever thought out at all. Is it really worth all those lives lost and all those dollars? I can not believe it is.
I agree people do think because it is easier not to either in our personal lives or just in general. Like i said initially it is immensely stimulating and fun to be around people who think about things. I also enjoy just being a zombie and chilling to, just not for to long
