You aren't going to get much sympathy here.....
Well i was and am. But i do not like George W The USA has a vibrant economy . What Reagen did with Gorbochov was in ending the cold war was a world transforming moment in history. David
it seems the entire world feels that americans are not only ignorant of international events but also void of any sense regarding their own politics.
after reading one spicey thread on the topic of our apparent unwitting density i had a couple things to say.
(parental discretion advised for political incorrectness):.

I am a fan of both Europe and the US. George W has been a total disaster for your country, no question, but then as you point out most of you feel the same.
I went to the US for the first time this year. I loved it and plan to take my family there again.
What you say about the size ot the US and the nature of your legal system i knew.
We need to compare the USA with Europe not the UK
I have seen the graveyards of WW2 and yes there are sadly the graves of many many young men, alot of them came from the USA, My dad was there on D Day . it was awful. he took the scars of that war to his grave.
Do not think we do not appreciate your country, i for one do but like you i make informed criticisms

i have been trying to move on with my life i guess and succeeding to some extent - got a new job and getting out and about more etc.
for anyone that remembers i have a jw son, his wife and a one year old grand daughter who i have been trying to keep in my life after deciding i didn't want to have anything to do with the cult myself.
Hi Maddie i am so sorry to hear what has happened to you , that is truly awful.

can y'all make some suggestions for veggie prep?
i have fresh broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, carrots, onions, leeks, zucchini, spinach, tomatoes.
don't say soup, because it's 90 degrees here today.
What about using in a pasta dish ?
Stir frying vegetables then incorporating in pasta?
David
i was in the grocery store not long ago, i realize that right across the produce table was along-time friend.
m....... " hello m...... how are things ?

an education authority is investigating claims that two school pupils were punished for refusing to kneel down and pray to allah during a religious education lesson.
I know Luton quite well, i am there every week, it is ethnically diverse and has a large student population too. I saw no real indication that radical islam was the problem here. I fail to see how this helps our discsussion.

Thank you Milligal.
I abhor religions, people or political groups that behave in a way to maiginalise or control people by virtue of gender, race or sexual orientation.
The way to counter the extremists is to hold thier ideology up to close scrutiny, and expose them for what they are undoubtably are.
We can do the same with the wts as well, as well . A free and liberal society is demonstably richer, both economically and socially. This is the route that we in liberal democracies can show the best way forward

The Uk legal system recently upheld the case of a school where a young Muslin woman insisted she had a right to wear a Burqa at school and the same for a teacher who brought a similar case. In both cases the decision of the School was upheld. The courts here are vigilant not to encouarage religious extremism..
We are vigilant but fair here. In France the legal system has long discouraged religious extremism too.
So do not think that a carefully worded statement by the Lord Chief Justice means we are not standing up to extremism, we do.
We had the IRA bombing Ireland and London for over 30 years. BTW alot of the money fron there originated from the US who at best turned a blind eye to thier citizens funding terrorism.
