ARE YOU AN INTELLECTUAL? Why not?
by Terry ini think i heard the word "intellectual" for the first time when i was less than ten years old.. my grandmother said to me that the presidential candidate for the democratic party (adalai stevenson) was an "intellectual".. the way she said the word...the timbre of her voice...the look of admiration on her face...led me to believe this was a good thing indeed!.
i think i may have asked her what the word meant, but, i don't recall exactly what she told me.
perhaps enough to confirm that this fellow stevenson was a "thinker" of admirable stature.. fast forward.. by the time my teen years came along there was a kind of dichotomy in society between so-called "eggheads" and common folk.

My ex boyfriend has MS and he gets medical MJ thru the state. It eases the total body pain. He doesn't smoke a lot of it. Just when the pain is intense. He smoked a LOT more of it in his 20's.

What do you think of Joyce Meyer?
by JimmyPage ini know there are a lot of atheists here, but for those who still believe in god- what do you think of joyce meyer?
from the few times i've seen her i enjoy her sense of humor while preaching.
she seems very down to earth and easy to relate to..

I've watched her a couple of times and can only envision her playing poker at a casino, smoking a cigarette with a Scotch neat in her hand. Very tough women on the sell.

How do you handle ... being shunned?
by Awakened at Gilead inmy da announcement was last tuesday, so i have been on the official jw shun list for about a week now.... i am curious how you handle shunning.my situation:.
i have spoken with my family (my parents and 1 brother) and discussed whether they will shun me.
i explained that biblically they should not shun me since i am not an antichrist, and i have not rejected the teaching that jesus cam in the flesh.

For those I grew up with and loved I still am very friendly and am glad to see them. They get love from me but they are uncomfortable about it. That's their problem. They were a major part of my life.

Were U Depressed Because U Were A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus inpeople get depressed for various reasons.
but do you know of people that actually suffered from depression mainly because they were witnesses?.
i know of more than a few witnesses that were always discouraged and feeling down.

I was deep in cognitive dissonance. Privately depressed but always very funny around them. It took a lot of energy.

Any Stephen King Readers?
by White Dove inso far, i like needful things, secret window/hidden garden, and langoliers best.. guy at the bookstore said the stand was the best.. i just bought the shining and pet cemetary (book's in the other room.

what's your favorite?.

Love Stephen King. Just when you think he's gone as far as he can go he takes off again. Geralds Game really was the scariest for me. You might try Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child (They write together and separately) FBI Agent Pendergast is fun, F. Paul Wilson is good too (especially the Repairman Jack series). Most of these are written in order so try to get started from the first one.

How Were You Treated as a Jehovah's Witness if You Had Depression ?
by flipper inmost of us who were in the jehovah's witnesses for some time realize that for years the watchtower society had always discouraged it's rank and file members from going to see therapists, or professional counselors if they had depression, or serious chemical depression.
the watchtower society always told us to go out in service more, do more personal study, be more regular at meetings - and essentially we would lose our depression , and everything would fall right back into place.
the old, " don't worry, be happy " cliche.

Study more. Pray more. It actually made it worse. Felt that I was unworthy of help from God.
Had an elder tell a sister (bi-polar) she had a demon problem.....she killed herself. Didn't seem to bother him.
