What to really expect from the JW's from the latest News
by restrangled inas wonderful as the coverage was concerning abuse of children in the watchtower organization, i think most of us deep down know that it will be ignored, denied and/or described as apostate lies.. the most we can hope for is enlightenment of the general public to the fact that jw's are no different than any of the other religions they point fingers at.
it will make it more difficult to get a listening ear at the door.. the jw's exist in a very small world.
they are taught anything not coming from headquarters is basically lies.. any mistakes made were due to old light, or as i have heard from my own relatives...."well, the entire world didn't know any better so the "organization" is just catching up like everyone else.

SHOULD JWS DRINK CAPPUCHINO?
by badboy init is named after an order of monks.. therefore should a jw drink cappuchino in view of its connection with a part of babylon the great?.

They do wear wedding rings...part of that whore babylon. They could rename it like Michael Jackson would call the wine he gave his victims "Jesus Juice".

Jumpin Jehosaphat THAT WAS A GREAT POST!!!!!!
I luv you guys. I know that it takes time for a newbie to gain trust that we are not some s...head from the organization spying or whatever. You ALL have been a lifesaver for me. Everybody just lives so far away. That's okay. At least you are there.
ps Catfish, I have never drank in the closet...it is way too teeny. Cheers to you. Gin and Tonics for everyone-- on the house.

What Happened - Showed Mum the Feature from NBC News
by KW13 inwell i think its probably the best thing we've had happen in a long time.. mum was stunned to say the least and apart from a few lame reasons why this could possibly happen, she was pretty speechless.. she tried to say the society had dealt with it the moment they heard of the sexual abuse themselves but a second run through the video pretty much dealt with that, as the first pedophile mentioned was known to have abused since the 70's and the society were aware of him existing.. she then said well in some states as the video says it isnt necessary to report it and that witnesses dont condone abuse but i said to her, neither do individual catholics but it still went on and that law isnt an excuse if you claim to be no part of the world.. wow!
she was just taking it all in and couldnt really do much about the whole thing....first time ever i've seen her like this, just totally defeated and the whole time she was here she was deep in thought....

My mom watched it too. There was a little epiphany for me in the conversation afterwards. She said, "Well I would have called the police!!!!" (although she didn't when it happened to me....it was a non jw fam member) and I said "Mother, the society is not you...they were covereing up for years and now how many thousands of guys or women have gotten away with it and how many thousands of kids are messed up?" I think because my mom was raised by a man-hater she never looked to the elders for anything. she just did her own thing (sometimes hypocritical but if SHE thought it was right to hell with them).
Anyway, due to fear of lawsuits instead of fear of God they stay rectal cranniel.

Is JWD #1.....My Therapist....his first advice on JW's, me, and divorce
by oompa ini have told my new therapist so much about jwd, some of the insightful comments here, and how much it has helped me and other dubs that we both now wonder if there are other jw help sites.
i really don't know as this was the first and only one i ever found, and it was just what i needed.. he has pegged me well as impatient, and knows i was vocal about my wake-up from jw.
his advice right now is to back off totally on trying to help any others, and i have told him that many here have said no one will wake-up until they want to for some reason.

Oompah, You are just beginning your walk. When people go thru life traumas like divorce, death, job loss etc (which is all of the above when leaving the society) it is recommended that you don't do ANYTHING BIG for ONE YEAR. So if you are leaving the society and feeling all those tendricals being pulled out of your body and soul (oops did I say "soul"?) You will only make things worse by doing something else. Like a divorce. Adding injury to injury. Learn to listen to what would be good for you...things not motivated by "guilt" or "should" (key ingrediants to fighting your intuition and causing depression). If you are up to a meeting go because you WANT to. If not you are hurting yourself.
Hopefully your therapist has you on some antidepressants (takes a while to start working and may need to switch types before a good balance is found) and maybe some anti panic meds. I'm not a big pill pusher but I know that this is something that may be too big to handle without some chems. When you get depressed and agitated those things kind of chemically alter your brain and body (just don't ask Tom Cruise about this) and take on a life of their own. Then you need help to re-stabilize things and then wean off them.
I went to several Therapists after leaving and not one of them understood what it was really all about. It is always an individual journey since we all have our histories, family crap, etc. Try to trust yourself. I don't know why you would toss a good wife just because she is JW (I know, easy for me to say, I'm not living with her) but I don't think you have mentioned "grounds" for divorce for either of you. Why go there. Just put it on the back shelf for now. Just work through it for a few months. You didn't get to this point quickly and you won't recover from it quickly.
As you can probably tell I am an animal lover. If you don't have a dog now I think it would really help to get one and take him to training. You can pick classes that are ON meeting nights so you don't sit at home obsessing. You meet some really nice people (some real wackos too...cheap entertainment) You get a wonderful bond with a very smart animal who can give you the companionship that you may be lacking. When I say "training" I am talking of a series of at least 4 eight week courses and there are options of Agility, Search and Rescue and on and on. I can really say that a dog that was dumped in my yard really saved my life after my divorce and leaving JWs. You might think I'm crazy but I really think this might be a really theraputic option so think about it.
You're a good man Oompa. Just keep on truckin.

How long before you tell people you were once a Jehovah's Witness?
by Trevanian inmost of the people i've met since i left don't know that i spent years of my life as a door knocker.. i have very dear friends who don't know.
i've even had lovers who didn't know.
my last partner knew, and found it vaguely amusing.. i guess i find it deeply embarrassing, although over the years it's become easier to mention it.

Used to. Not anymore. What's the point? They have no frame of reference. If it's important to the conversation I will say what I know without admitting to have been there unless I have to. I will, of course, inform newbies of certain things if they ask.
