I did Toastmasters for a couple of years. They are really a great group. My schedule doesn't allow me to make the meetings regularly. they are basically set up for 9-5ers. If you think the Ministry School teaches anything, 6 mos in Toastmasters = lifetime in MS. Some people are practically lifetime members. You learn a lot of skills besides speaking. I wish there were a Jr Toastmasters in the public schools programs.

Trash THIS!
by Farkel inhere is an interesting challenge for the folks.
this thread revolves around one subject, and that is thomas paine's brilliant critique of the bible written in about 1795. he did most of this from memory, while in prison in france.. http://www.infidels.org/library/historical/thomas_paine/age_of_reason/.
the challenge is this: critique his essays.

I'm scared everyday...
by 4mylove ini'm scared everyday that i will lose my husband to this cult.. i'm scared everyday that i will offend my dear friend because of my bitterness with this cult.. i'm scared everyday that my husband will choose to go back to studying and become active again.. i'm scared everyday that my life will crumble after working so hard to build the wonderful relationship that i have.. i'm scared everyday that his family will eventually say that they cannot associate with him anymore unless he goes back.. i'm scared everyday he'll choose.
i'm scared everyday that i'll never have a family of my own because of this stupid cult.
i won't bring innocent lives into this shit.. i'm scared everyday that i'll give up.. i'm scared evertday that he'll be gone.. i'm scared they will convince him.

this never would've happened if we were still "in"
by chickpea inmy 14 yo daughter will be performing a solo in her high school's winter pops concert.... featuring the choirs and bands as well as individual talent..... she wrote music and lyrics, a sweet melody on the piano.....there are a few bands at the local "punk shows" that do a cover and when her papa and i first heard it we thought>>> d@mn, that even sounds good distorted!.
note: none of the mentioned "friends" are from the cong, where she was brutalized by the "it" girls as she has had weight issues since being on steroids for asthma when she was younger.

losing the plot for jehoovah
by jacethespace inhas anyone ever met people whithin the kingdom mall that are seriously mentally unstable to the point of completly losing it?.
for example ive heard from members of my cong that we once had a guy who believed he was an angel and would try to eat the bread and wine at the memorial evening[ and the elders would stop him].theres been many others ive heard of.at one assembly a poor old guy was giving a talk and i overheard someone i know mention how " he gives good talks but hes had a big nervous breakdown over the years".
i was suspicous when i heard these things then but now all these things start to fit into place.i mean how can an organization who professes gods backing have so much mental instability.. .

Oh yeah...but then I am the pot calling the kettle black. I am reminded of a long time sister remarking how difficult it is to find sheep among educated people....like teachers.

would a jw wife be advised to divorce her disfellowshipped convicted hub
by looloo inif he has been convicted of child abuse and doing a prison sentence , would she tell any newly interested ones where her husband was?
or would elders tell her to say he was"working away" or to avoid answering so as not to "stumble" new ones ?
she is supporting him as far as i know .

Why would anyone WANT to even be associated with this guy much less STAY married. Creeps like him continue on because women like her won't deal with it.

Thoughts of a 16 year old...
by OMG! Now What? ini was telling my daughter about ray franz and that i'm going to get his book.
after she read a little of his bio, she asked me the following question:.
"if someone is disfellowshipped, shouldn't every evidence of that person be put away, thrown out or destroyed so there is no evidence of their existence and no one can think of him or associate him with the organization?".

I think this whole "authorless" business is just another stupid way of making people think it is written by God. It is also a huge way of sidestepping responsibility/lawsuits.

Do you sometimes feel really disconected from people?
by Aphrodite ini thought i had been going really well in my life until my mothers recent attempt at shunning me.
now im feeling like i don't want to connect with anyone.
i'm kind of disconnecting myself from my friends even, withdrawing.

Satanus, Aphrodite, yup. Feel like a vulnerable rabbit holed up in it's den. I think it is a permanent condition but you try your best to go out and blend.
