I rarely go to Nordstroms but had some time in the mall (and I hate going to malls) and strolled over to see if my work nylons were on sale. There was a sister there looking at socks on sale. I said, "Well Hi Sue. You look great! whats new?" She fled. shunned over sale socks. Boo hoo.

You Know that You're Really Flucked Up When....
by jamiebowers inyou see a jw on your street and wait for them to come to your door.
yes, seriously, it happened this past tuesday morning.
i saw a jw going to my neighbor's house across the street, so i waited patiently for a knock on my door that never came (at least in the 2 and a half hours before i had to leave the house).

They could have been doing return visits (used to be called back-calls). They don't come to my house because of my 6ft fence with a lock on it (a friends calls it my "witness protection program"). It's really for the safety of my animals.

My Sister Finally Called Me... After My JW Brother Completely Told Her Off
by cognac inwell, for those that don't know the story, here's a quick recap.
my sister, mom, and dad felt i was an apostate, freaked out on me, then went to the elders and ratted me out.
i haven't spoken to her in about 2 months because i didn't like the way that she treated me.

C, This is a breakthrough. A realization that maybe the borg doesn't do people right. Families ebb and flow. Going into your cave isn't a bad thing. I hunker down when things get out of hand. I still function like working and yard stuff but I just stay out of the storm. Too much energy taken from it.

Does Wearing Your Nations Uniform Automatically Ensure a High Moral Ground?
by hillary_step ini realize that the contents of this thread may enflame the passions of those on all sides of the house.
if your sensibilities are easily damaged, you take yourself to seriously, or your humor is wanting, then be warned this may not be the thread for you.. i have been reading with interest a thread on this board today that is discussing the treatment of us veterans.
i have noticed that when such subjects are discussed there is an automatic assumption that those who don the uniforms of their respective nations, they somehow are automatically walking on a higher moral ground.. i find it all the more puzzling that those who cry the loudest for 'special' treatment for soldiers, and by special i mean as compared to the rest of the working masses, seem to be of an republican bent.

State Truthful Facts About JWs That Make Them Look Bad, Weird, Foolish
by minimus inyou don't need to exaggerate the foibles of jws to get the point across that they are not "the truth".
can you state some facts that show that jehovah's witnesses are not "normal' and that their religion is weird and simply abnormal?.

I had never heard about blacks becoming white. What a crock! Isn't it true that Adam and Eve HAD to be very dark? It kinda jogs the memory about all the pictures in the publications used to all be about white anglo saxon people. Even Jesus was pictures like superman with blue eyes. I recall
circuit serpent decribed how integration was very difficult for the brothers down south. Really racist roots. Wouldn't they all crap their pants if Jehovah turned out to be a big old sassy black woman wearing trousers? Please let this be true.

Did/Does God answer your prayers?
by song19 inin my spiritual journey, which includes trying to decide if i still believe in god anymore or not i am beginning to question if god listened to my prayers or even answered them.
i think i had a track record of praying more when i needed something.
terrible i know.

I think love is way more powerful than prayer.

How many of us remember the Jonestown massacre?
by james_woods inby that i meant - how many remember being an active jw when this happened?.
what was the general reaction from the rank & file, the elders, even the co/do?
does anybody remember there being magazine articles on this?.

Yes, I remember it. It was so crazy weird with them gunning down the people coming to check on them and then murdering their own kids...even squirting cool aid down babies throats. One of the things to remember is that it didn't happen suddenly. People had been following him for years letting his brain (which got more and more warped the more power he got) destroy their reasoning. They gave him literally everything, land, money, time, moved away from family and country. In the end they did not believe they could live without his will.

me and Bobby Kennedy
by Gregor inon tuesday may 28, 1968 i was working at my desk in santa barbara, california.
the office was less than two blocks from the santa barbara courthouse and we were aware that rfk was arriving there for a big campaign rally that afternoon.
as a jw i wasn't politically invested in the event but i liked rfk and so i walked out the back door and across the parking lot to anacapa st. so i could look the block and a half down the street towards the courthouse and see the big crowds gathered there.

Had some people on my plane a few years ago and one guy was reading a book on Teddy Kennedy. I asked him if it was good and he said much better than the subject. I then said that I had always envied that Caroline had that pony Maccaroni and I wondered what ever happened to that horse. This other woman said that horse had been glue for years. She then told me this story that her dad had been the milkman to the Kennedy compound and surrounding area. She used to ride that pony when she was with her dad. He had keys to RFKs house and RFK treated him like one of the family. After RFK decided to run for Pres the milkman walked into the kitchen to put the milk in the fridge (lots and lots of milk for that family) and Ethel came in and he said, "Hi Ethel". She responded cooly that from now on he would address her as Mrs. Kennedy. He kept a low profile after that and one day Bobby saw him and came over asking why he hadn't seen him around lately and so the milkman told him what Ethel said. Bobby told him to wait there. When he came back he had Ethel with him and he made her apologize for what she said.

ARE YOU AN INTELLECTUAL? Why not?
by Terry ini think i heard the word "intellectual" for the first time when i was less than ten years old.. my grandmother said to me that the presidential candidate for the democratic party (adalai stevenson) was an "intellectual".. the way she said the word...the timbre of her voice...the look of admiration on her face...led me to believe this was a good thing indeed!.
i think i may have asked her what the word meant, but, i don't recall exactly what she told me.
perhaps enough to confirm that this fellow stevenson was a "thinker" of admirable stature.. fast forward.. by the time my teen years came along there was a kind of dichotomy in society between so-called "eggheads" and common folk.
