What is your concept of God?
by transhuman68 ingiven that the god of the old testament & the new testament don't seem to match up, and our first impression of god may be based on our parents, and the many progressive christian religions that stress god's love and grace, we probably all have completely different ideas of who god is; if he/she does exist.
i always thought god was a strict, bad-tempered kill-joy..

How Did You Move on to Relationships with non-JWs?

but what was it like to navigate through the waters of other people while getting into relationships?

The hard part was to trust that they weren't just out to get laid. I wanted a *relationship*.
The best tool was listening, finding out what they were interested in, what they did for fun.
Then I had to trust enough to get involved in what they were interested in. Having been a JW, I had no real interests of my own other than reading the Watchtower.
The issue of my past wasn't all that important (maybe I was talking to self-absorbed types, I don't know). Like Loz, I just said I had a very religious upbringing.
But through these relationships I learned more about what regular people did, and got interested in things. I've always been a better listener than a talker, and nature took its course when I got out of the way.

Do JW's cherry-pick what to find offensive? Is it hypocricy?
by Terry into take a stand for true worship, we need to have a viewpoint like that of the prophet isaiah, who told true worshipers: touch nothing unclean.isaiah 52:11.. .
jehovah's witnesses are preoccupied with religious "cleanliness" and "purity" of worship.
at least, that's what they say.. for example, jw's aren't permitted to engage in many commonly observed holidays because of connections to pagan false worship.. christmas, easter, thanksgiving are no-no's!

Of greater concern to me are the trappings that WERE to be avoided and are NOW ok: Pinatas, for example.
Or, whose false religion precedents are conveniently ignored: Wedding party dress, for example.
In the 60's there conversations by the brothers in our congregation about the false gods commemorated in the calendar - IIRC, the point was made that they had LOST THEIR RELIGIOUS CONNECTIONS, especially for Christians. Seems like that sort of thinking should be applied more.

i dont have many people to talk to and its been a saving grace to read your posts.. i dont really know where to start so here i go.
its been a long journey getting here and it looks as if i still have a long ways to go to get somewhere healthy, stable and strong.

Answering up: A joy or pain?

hated it with a passion!
i would spend the whole study working out my answer, getting it world perfect in my head, as i put my hand up i would be shaking, and afterwards shaking too.. then there would always be sister perfect elderette who would answer up without turning a hair and give a sermon of her own, usualy using the point i had just made as if i hadn't made it in the right way and therefore it was up to her to correct it.. strangly enough, i loved "answering up" in the classroom, never had any trouble.... a joy or pain?

Satanic murder shocks Argentina

" according to the police, apparently the father and daughters engaged in a ritual that ended with the murder of juan carlos vazquez.. juan carlos' body was found not only with 100 knife wounds, but also marked with cuts forming a strange figure.. the killing took place in the living room, after the furniture was moved to one side.
in the place were found cups with strange liquids and a book of "alchemy rites.

most people have no idea the song refers to the church of satan, which happens to be located in a converted hotel on california street.
on the inside of the album cover, looking down on the festivities, is anton lavey, the founder of the church of satan and author of the satanic bible!

Are you accomplishing creatively what you wish?

i'm looking for a response to a question overlooked on another thread .... a friend just wrote to say that one does not need to be the sequoia in the forest, this after a mutual lament that we cannot accomplish creatively all that we aspire to .... your thoughts?.
