Would the Governing Body ever suggest ...

I believe others have noted examples of elders supporting separation and/or divorce on the board.

My own personal experience with a couple in this situation was the husband was given very strict rules about what he could and could not talk about with his DFed wife. He was told it would be preferable if he would sleep in a different room and have very little to do with her until she was reinstated.

There was never any doubt that his wife was repentent (she was only DFed because she needed to be taught a lesson). There was never any doubt she would be reinstated after 6 months (she was told she would be). In the meantime, the elders found it necessary to be invasive in their marriage relationship.

Actually, that's a lawsuit. Too bad it doesn't end with just wrongly spoken words.

Could You Live Without God?

i have said before in past posts - i think a belief in a god is because of two bad reasons.. 1. ignorance (not always deliberate at all) of certain facts.

the universe and life on earth was not designed.. 2. wanting to believe in a god.. so, to focus on the second, i can see why people would want there to be a god.. you see dead loved ones again, you live forever, you have a purpose set out for you, you feel there's always a being with you through even your most difficult times.

for those who believe in a god, could you live without one?

It could just as easily be said that "You don't believe in a 'god' because you don't want to."

At some level, that may indeed be the sum of it. True, based on a myriad factors playing out in the subconscious, but at its heart all matters of "faith" (believing in things without direct evidence) seem to me to boil down to that one very thing: belief due to preference.

Sometimes that preference is based on "brain washing" or manipulation or environment or education or...it goes on and on. In the end, we believe because it gives a sense of satisfaction. EDIT: And disbelieve for the same reason.

what if you wen't back in time and stopped your mother from opening the door to the witnesses...and your family never came into the truth!!

what if you risked changing everything else in your life...not having kid's or the same marriage partner...would it be worth it.

Yes. I'd have to change tha path of my grandparents, or my parents, or just give myself a bigger attitude and refuse to participate much sooner. There are just too many opportunities that myself or my parents passed up that would have led to more satisfying experiences, and so much grief and trauma would have ben avoided.

Sure, other, nastier traumas may have taken their place - but they would have been more laong the lines of MY traumas from MY choices, not the traumas that a child and teenager and young adult were led into by hypnotic control freaks.

Why do so many women [and men] get into abusive relationships and then they're surprised?

Because it is familier in some way, they believe somehow that this is the way relationships "should" be, and look at it as proof of the vailidity and "love" they desire. It may be the same dynamic that makes people run into the arms of a vengeful and merciless God figure.

Sometimes it's recreating early relationship dynamics; sometimes it's a streak of masochism, a sense of unworthiness, a need to "prove" how much they don't deserve anything better - and, again, sometimes the personality is wired into believing that's what a "good relatinoship" is all about.

Sometimes people just don't know there's something better available.

i would like to say thank you for the gratitude expressed for the scans i have been providing.. i had the time to do this while i was sitting at my computer during the hours, days and weeks that i cared for my very sick wife.

at the moment, my partner of 46 years lies very ill in hospital, so you will understand that i currently do not have the time to scour the various threads and posts.

I'm curious- why 'god'?

i know how i got sucked into the b0rg- i was a very spiritual, very young and very emotionally damaged 19 year old (raised in a violent on all levels home, the usual stuff) who was having- and had always had- a lot of 'supernatural' experiences that had caused my mother to declare me 'evil' (and try to get me exorcised on the odd occasion).

i'd become confused and was trying to work out if these things were, in fact, a sign of my rejection from 'god'.

if i'd known then what i know now about the christian god, i'd have told the jw's to stick it.

So, is religion (as opposed to spirituality) simply a product of emotionally and psychologically diseased minds?

Religion is the mind's attempt to grapple with the unknown and with spirituality. Sometimes the two intersect; sometimes they are distinct.

I suggest spirituality in its "purest" is in the domain of experience. All the mind can do about sprituality is act as a finger pointing.

I wouldn't say all religion is the result of disease; discomfort, perhaps. Though some minds, like some religions, seem toxic.
