made my own personal statement by skipping the memorial, and then went to the next regular ol sunday meeting with my wife.
i tried hard not to pay attention, but still went nuts when the wt said things clearly not in the bible (which i don't even believe anymore!).
so why does this still bother me?

My personal experience with leaving the jw's went through several phases. Hopefully, it will help you:
1. Guilt; I was so sinful and just generally BAD. 2. Anger; I hated those assholes. 3. Bitterness; I wanted revenge. 4. Apathy; I felt sorry for the poor bastards. 5. Ambivalence.
So far, it has been a 17 year journey. Just achieved ambivalence about a couple of years ago. Damn, those jw's really screwed us up huh?

Hi Okie! I was raised there..was a jw there..got df'd there (twice)lol. My folks all still live in Oklahoma.
i'm not much of a reader really, but i'm halfway through reading this book at the moment and i am really enjoying it.
stephen king has such a wild imagination, he really is a truly talented man.. i loved the film aswell, i think jack nicholson's acting in this film is sublime.
jack's acting combined with king's imagination, and stanley kubrick's directing combine to form a true masterpiece.. any other fans of this book/film?.
If you liked "The Shining", try "Pet Cemetary". I read a lot, and that is the scariest book that I've ever read.

and, they do control their followers...did you know that non-jw are considered goats?!?
I remember when I was just a lil jw..when I filled out my door-to-door service activity slip (or whatever the hell they called it). It was common practice to place the letter "g", for goat, if the householder was extremely rude or asked us not to come back.

i know this one brother who misses loads of meetings, yet when he talks, he sounds very zealous about preaching and finding interested ones.. i can't quite wrap my mind over this - how can you be zealous for service yet hardly turn up at the hall?.
This cult seems to be a magnet for wing nuts. I remember as a kid, my Dad (the rabid elder) would befriend all these "new associates". I'm sure it was just so that he could encourage them to grow in "the truth"(tm). It just seems strange and now kind of angers me that he introduced all these, for lack of a better word, WIERDOS into our families lives. What really would pi$$ me off is sometimes I would get to know and like some of these people or their kids (the ones that I would like would usually know what they were getting into and run like hell). Then everytime they would fade or stop coming to meetings I would have to hear this long diatribe from Dad about how selfish and stupid these people were.
